"ODE TO POWDERED SUGAR" or "I REALLY SHOULD GET OUT MORE"...

I'm pretty sure I need to take this
EAT CAKE
out of my kitchen.....!!
It keeps reminding me of ALL THINGS SWEET...
and this morning, we are having fresh, warm BEIGNETS..
ROLL 'EM OUT....
....CUT 'EM OUT...

FRY 'EM UP....
...and drain those little square pieces of GOODNESS...
get as much oil out of them as possible...

At THIS point in the LIFE OF A BEIGNET,
it is a little square of BROWN...
granted....a pretty GOLDEN BROWN....
but BROWN just the same.
Oh, they TASTE good...even at this stage.
....especially if you have a tub of butter close by that you can slather on them...
BUT their day in the SUN  hasn't happened....... YET...
It's getting close...we need to let them COOL just a bit and then..

we can give them a DUSTING OF LUSCIOUS POWDERED SUGAR...

.....much resembling SNOW
Little tiny mountains, covered with a dusting of  SNOW...
The kind of *SNOW* that can bring a grown man to his KNEES....
 I see caverns...and caves....and dark tunnel places..
...a mountain range of snow peaks..
"COME ON, MR. SWEET....let's eat 'em all up !!"
O...don't worry....I SAVED SOME FOR YOU !!
XOXO bj

  11. I love them and I haven't made them in a long time. That is the exact mix I have used in the past. My parents always brought me some when they went to New Orleans. I don't think they carry in the stores around here. I can almost smell that fried goodness!

  12. BJ, I could eat that whole plate and then lick up all the powdered sugar! Powdered sugar makes my hubby sneeze (over and over again) so I get a good laugh when we have these.

  16. You may need to get the "Eat Cake" out of your kitchen and I may need to quit visiting. NO, never. I can enjoy the virtual beignets all the while wondering what they are like. After all, it wasn't so long ago that I saw Pat and Vanna dive face first into a plate of them. They've got to be good.

  21. I know now that there is a reason you are not my neighbor. I would have to have double doors put on my house so I could get in and out. I love sweets...bet you guessed that! Oh, those look soooo good.

  22. My father's retirement home was on the MS Gulf Coast, not to far from New Orleans. The Beignets there were outstanding, served warm and the powdered sugar on top would melt into a sort of glaze, making the treat even better! With a side of bacon, it was a great breakfast (not necessarily good for you, but very good anyway :)

    Of apple peel.
    The air is full
    Of smells to feel-
    Ripe fruit, old footballs,
    Burning brush,
    New books, erasers,
    Chalk, and such."
