MARY MARY, QUITE CONTRAY...

Some of you might remember back at the first of this
LOOONG  HOT  SUMMER
I very sweetly asked MR. SWEET...
for my very own
CUSTOM MADE WINDOW BOX
...and he said, very sweetly in return..
HERE YA GO !
and I was in LUV.
I've wanted a window box forEVER !
Due to the excessive heat of this summer...
the LACK OF RAIN....
and lack of FUNDS..
we started with very few plants, knowing we might not be able to give them
a good drink of HEALTHY RAIN WATER
for a long, long time...

Watering with city water, full of CHLORINE, just doesn't do much for
flowers, plants, trees and lawns.
STILL...I was proud of it....
so I watered these tiny, defensive, frail plants sometimes twice a day..
and I fertilized them along the way.

They started smiling at me...
and
they started growing.

I talked to them each day,
sometimes with REAL tears in my eyes,
and told them that not another flower
on this whole, entire place was alive.
All my beautiful little VIOLETS..
gone !
Even the ROSE OF SHARON
have been severely whipped by the hot sun
and the lack of good, energy-filled
RAIN WATER.

O...they didn't grow nearly as fast or nearly as large
as they would have with a rain water drink often..
but isn't she looking pretty darn good now. !?
I have to say that with everything else pretty DEAD around here
this little box has brought smiles from both Mr. Sweet and myself.:)
but...
I have to say that I am
QUITE PROUD
of the way the box looks now.

I am just almost CERTAIN that NEXT summer,
I will have my box
FULL and OVERFLOWING....

  I am joining with:
SHOW AND TELL FRIDAY
FERTILIZER FRIDAY
TICKLED PINK FRI.
FEATHERED NEST FRI.
THRIFTY THINGS
HOME SWEET HOME
INSPIRATION FRIDAY
POTPOURRI FRIDAY....a brand new meme

THANKS, HOSTS..
and THANKS TO YOU, for coming by today.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend..

  1. Your geraniums actually look better than mine BJ. Probably because I left the watering a little too much to the weather and was neglectful to a fault:>(
Those plants did really well with all your tender care and with everything else so dead I am sure you enjoyed the little oasis of green and red that they provided! Enjoy your last wekend of summer and we will continue to pray for some rain this fall!

  4. It looks great, BJ! What a sweetheart of a husband you have to make a window box for you. My husband wouldn't have a clue how to start.

We're coming to a wedding in Texas at the end of this month. I sure hope it cools off there by then!

  5. It looks great and I am so sorry that you have had such a horrible drought. We are in one to now, but nothing like yours. We did have one like yours a couple of years ago and it is no fun.

  6. Looks good to me BJ! I had to pull all of my annuals yesterday. Between the heat and hurricane they were beaten and laying on the ground. So even through your horrible drought, your plants look great-enjoy:@)

  18. It looks beautiful and it DOES look happy!
All the azaleas we planted in the spring have died.
I watered and watered, but with 60 100+ days
they still did not survive, however, all my knock-out roses are still surviving. Love those!

  32. Awwwwwwwwwww, what a precious post!

I'm so proud of your strong little flowers and how-they-grew!!!

Betcha' "BJ," no matter how much rain you have next year, or how many happily growing flowers you have next year, with more rain ~~~ Betcha' none will ever make you more happy, than these! :-)

And had to show "The Resident Wood Worker" pics of 'Mr. Sweet,' routing and all. And... Drum Roll Please... I KNEW that he was ROUTING! How about that? I have learned something, in all these years, married to "The Resident Wood Worker." :-)

Aren't we wives just amazing?!?!?!? -giggles-

  33. I remember your post when you wanted the window box. Your hubby did a great job on it. It looks very pretty and with lots of blooms will make an awesome sight. I did not buy any new plants this year. I am glad as they would have died like all the rest.

  34. Just beautiful!! I have window boxes on our barn and gave up - opting to use silk flowers instead of real ones. Since they are on the second floor it is very difficult to water them. I killed several plants before turning to silk. Sad.. but glad I did because now they look pretty all the time and are so far up, it is really difficult to tell that they are not real!

You box is just beautiful...and give your Mr. Sweet a big hug for doing such a great job. The last time I let Don build anything - it was suppose to be a dog house.. I told him the dogs could not use it until they had tetnus shots!!

  35. It looks wonderful and I'm certain that the green and colors nourished your spirits in this terribly drought. Are you expecting any rain from this Lee thing?
