Some of you might remember back at the first of this
LOOONG HOT SUMMER
I very sweetly asked MR. SWEET...
for my very own
CUSTOM MADE WINDOW BOX
...and he said, very sweetly in return..
HERE YA GO !
and I was in LUV.
I've wanted a window box forEVER !
Due to the excessive heat of this summer...
the LACK OF RAIN....
and lack of FUNDS..
we started with very few plants, knowing we might not be able to give them
a good drink of HEALTHY RAIN WATER
for a long, long time...
for a long, long time...
Watering with city water, full of CHLORINE, just doesn't do much for
flowers, plants, trees and lawns.
STILL...I was proud of it....
so I watered these tiny, defensive, frail plants sometimes twice a day..
and I fertilized them along the way.

They started smiling at me...
and
they started growing.
I talked to them each day,
sometimes with REAL tears in my eyes,
and told them that not another flower
on this whole, entire place was alive.
All my beautiful little VIOLETS..
gone !
Even the ROSE OF SHARON
have been severely whipped by the hot sun
and the lack of good, energy-filled
RAIN WATER.
as they would have with a rain water drink often..
but isn't she looking pretty darn good now. !?
I have to say that with everything else pretty DEAD around here
this little box has brought smiles from both Mr. Sweet and myself.:)
I have to say that I am
QUITE PROUD
of the way the box looks now.

Your geraniums actually look better than mine BJ. Probably because I left the watering a little too much to the weather and was neglectful to a fault:>(

ReplyDeleteLooks good to me BJ! I had to pull all of my annuals yesterday. Between the heat and hurricane they were beaten and laying on the ground. So even through your horrible drought, your plants look great-enjoy:@)

I watered and watered, but with 60 100+ days
they still did not survive, however, all my knock-out roses are still surviving. Love those!

Oh BJ, you loved your little plants and they felt that love! I hate to BRAG, but my Mr. made me 9 window boxes!!! They are on our 3 decks and I plant them every year, just with impatiens cause that is all that will grow in this shade:):) But, I LOVE mine too!!!! I am praying that next year, Mother Nature will be kinder to you and your plants will THRIVE!!!!! Mr. Sweet is a sweetie to make your window box for you! I remember your post when you wanted the window box. Your hubby did a great job on it. It looks very pretty and with lots of blooms will make an awesome sight. I did not buy any new plants this year. I am glad as they would have died like all the rest.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!! I have window boxes on our barn and gave up - opting to use silk flowers instead of real ones. Since they are on the second floor it is very difficult to water them. I killed several plants before turning to silk. Sad.. but glad I did because now they look pretty all the time and are so far up, it is really difficult to tell that they are not real!
