MAGAZINE COPY CAT CHALLENGE #2

TIME for DEBBIE DOO'S
MAGAZINE COPY CAT CHALLENGE #2
and I am so READY.
We all had SO MUCH FUN at the FIRST ONE.
 She says....
What are the guidelines to this party?
YOU MAY copy anything your  heart desires from a magazine. Put your own spin on it.  It does not have to be exact!
However, you must take a picture of your inspiration to go along with the challenge.
It can even be a recipe..
I often do COPY CATS and this is one of my favorites...
I had such a great time doing it, I wanted to add it to her PAR-TAY !

I DO LOVE ME SOME FRENCH COUNTRY...

This table and the luscious things resting on top is just pure beauty to my olden eyes....

What IS that brown fabric? I must have some of it...

don't you love that it's somewhat fringed.....!!
*

I can feel a
"I CAN DO A TABLE LIKE THIS" coming on.

Some of you might know that I delight in copying a beautiful scene with my thrifted items...

I just LOVE showing that you don't HAVE to have a lot of money to spend on a certain look...
I just LOVE showing that you can get the same
FEEL...
MOOD...
LOOK
... with just some great imagination and some fabulous thrifted finds....
I think the key is to learn to be able to use OTHER items to represent the look you are after...
THIS is one reason I am lovin'  DEBBIE DOO'S fun new, monthly meme...
I surely don't have all the beautiful things on the table above.....
but....let's see just what I DO have..
SUNFLOWERS...check (my table would look a LOT better if I had REAL flowers...)
BOOKS....check
ROUND TABLE.....check < from my mother>
AWESOME TABLE COVERINGS....check
ROUND TRAY ...check
CUTE CUPS.....check
REAL FRUIT....check
OK, I am ready to satisfy my COPY CAT instinct...
Let's start gathering....

Gathering....
see that bit of fringed fabric...?......LOVE it...

Not just like it.....but close.
The idea is why I love INSPIRATION photos so much....

OF COURSE it is not exactly alike...
MY colors are LIGHTER..
we only use INSPIRATION photos that we LOVE to help us establish what we would like to accomplish.
If I were going to gather items for a table scape JUST like this one,
I would choose all my pieces in about the same, neutral darker colors..as in the INSPIRATION...
The INSPIRATION photo is from
2001 DO IT YOURSELF magazine and
gives this great TIP...
"When arranging, go for a graceful curve:
Imagine drawing a line over the top of the display;
the resulting line should be wavy, not flat."

Now, I am thinking THIS might be a good arrangement for the things that I DO have..

See how an INSPIRATION photo can spur you on to create your OWN ideas,
USING THE ITEMS YOU ALREADY HAVE.
It's not nearly so much fun if you go out and BUY things especially to copy a photo.

Is being able to satisfy your own self when you create a table top..a mantel...a dining table,
a form of creativity ?
OH, YES 'MAM....I think it truly is.
I think we don't have to be able to create a table top that will go into a beautiful magazine...
What I love is when my family says something like
"OH, GOSH...that old table looks fantastic !"

I like the brick red of the SUNFLOWER because it
matches the brick red of the sunflower plate..
....even the little tiny flowers on the french, paisley print book blends in well.

I love the little french pot that my daughter gave me years ago...
and I love using it EMPTY....
I loved learning the tip about the wavy line....
I love that we are NEVER too old to learn...
OMGOSH....
ain't life grand !
**

XOXO bj
Joining also with,
WOW ME WEDNESDAY
GOOD LIFE WEDNESDAY
I hope YOU will visit some of these lovely parties..
so much talent out there just waiting for you TO COPY......YAY
I can't wait to do ANOTHER French inspired table...maybe for NEXT month.

and start your GATHERING. :)
Then you can join these great parties to SHOW OFF YOUR CREATIVITY.

You are just an amazing talented lady in my eyes, in fact I think many eyes out here BJ! I love that your table is a bit lighter, and that thingy,(table covering) I think is wool, I bet. Your vignette and all your special touches are just marvelous! Thanks for your participation and for your passion, enthusiastic zest for life!

Bj, yours looks great. I think that is washed and dried burlap. It turns out like that and you can fray the edges.

I agree. You should try to use what you already have for these copy cat parties. It's more like a treasure hunt that way. I think you copied it very well!

Vee said...

Yes, you've done it again and beautifully. In fact, yours is my favorite. Could that brown fabric be painter's cloth? Some of mine looks that way.

Love your copy cat entry. I used to watch that show where they took a high dollar room and copied it for 1/10th of the price. What a great idea for a party!

BJ it looks fantastic! I try to do just like you said, get inspiration not exact replicas! I want my house to look like me, not a store! I love Debbie's party, it's fun to visit and check out other copy cats!

Debbie

This is amazing, BJ. Your checklist proves that you really took apart the objects in the picture and replaced them with your own twist! Just goes to show, you don't have to travel far to get a bit of France! This is fabulous! :-)

Sometimes the simple things of life are more important than high dollar things. You can whatever and it turns out great. Be gone 15-20. Be good while I am gone.

BJ, when I saw the two tables side by side, I was amazed at how similar they were, and yet so subtly different. Your version definitely looks like you. You're really great at this!

Very nicely done, I actually like yours better than the magazine shot! I like the lighter tones. I love looking a magazines (okay, I addicted). However, I rarely tear out, save or copy things from them other than recipes. I don't why that is. I should change that!

BJ,
Amazing job...copy cat! I like that your items held special meaning or came as a gift from someone special in your life. To me, that's what creating a home is all about. Surrounding yourself with the things you love and the people you love!!!...and with that you can call me a "copy cat"!
Fondly,
Pat
