ALASKA...2010

I am again sharing part of our ALASKAN cruise last summer
because
BETH at BEYOND THE GARDEN GATE
is having a TRAVEL NEAR AND FAR meme and I wanted to play, too.
THERE'S a lot of
RED, WHITE and BLUE in this post, which is one reason I chose it to post today.
Flags are still flying all over our town, in remembrance of 9/11
KETCHIKAN, ALASKA
This is one of the prettiest little towns we saw on our cruise...
So clean and crisp....and just breathtaking.
I took this photo from our balcony aboard the SAPPHIRE PRINCESS.
The top couple rows of balconies are the ones you want to try to get if you go on a cruise...the rows are angled out so that some of them are not covered...

We were on top...our balcony was covered and NO ONE COULD LOOK DOWN AND SEE US...:)..Not that we were gonna do anything that we didn't want anyone to see but....just sayin'
It did rain one day at sea and those below us couldn't use their balconies..but WE COULD...:-)
ISN'T SHE A BEAUT !
RED WHITE AND BLUE...woo hoo
LOTS of Red White and Blue here...
THIS was the most incredible helicopter ride....
more to follow on this subject..;>)

This beautiful 7 day cruise to ALASKA was given to us by our children for our 50th wedding anniversary.
We were just flabbergasted...and so so thankful. I cried for a solid week but I sucked it all up when we got to SEATTLE, to board our ship the next day. Everything was so beautiful..and we'd never been to Washington before. AWESOME sights.
 RED WHITE AND BLUES !!

Hi BJ *hug*
WHAT a wonderful gift you received from your children. I would have cried too! I know you would have loved it. We have sailed with the Princess line a couple of times and those balconies look so nicely familiar...beautiful pictures.
You have lovely memories.

I've taken cruises south, but not into the waters of Alaska.. My son lives in Juneau and my Moms Sister in Anchorage. It's a beautiful state but the winters just make me shiver..lol I'll be spending a month in Juneau in the spring (depending on how much of the snow is gone) to visit with my grand daughter.
Very nice post.

What a fabulous gift from your children! I'm so glad you had a great time. I wonder if you came into Victoria - if I'd known you I'd have been at the dock with a big bouquet!

Golly, what had you guys done to get yourselves shipped to Alaska? ;> Your kids gave you such a great gift full of memories to carry you through the hottest of summers.

Have you seen the photos that Donna at Cottage Days and Journeys is doing of her trip this summer to Alaska. I think you'd be interested. She's in the middle of her series now.

My son was stationed in Ketchican with the US Coast Guard in 1990 and hated leaving there when he was discharged. Beautiful area.

What an incredibly thoughtful gift from your children! We've just learned that our granddaughters are moving to Fairbanks!!!! I'm seeing a trip to Alaska in our future though Fairbanks doesn't seem as exciting as a cruise!! Congratulations!

Thanks for coming by and commenting on our new deck. We are SO excited to have it finished. It was a real chore in the 100degree weather this year. Some days they just couldn't take a chance to work in the heat!!!! I love when you visit.

What wonderful kids you have to give you both such a beautiful gift for your anniversary. You took some great photos too. Never been on a cruise, but talked to a lot of neighbors that do. they love cruising. I have a fear of water, so I'll probably never go on one. We spent last summer in Alaska, but in a RV. :)

That was my favorite cruise (topping many in the caribbean) And the helicopter ride was the most exhilarating experience ever!! I have come to the conclusion that I don't care if I go to any one destination for a vacation - would rather cruise and see many places

I've never been to Alaska but my mom has. She LOVED it! You're lucky to have been able to go. It's just beautiful. My husband would love to go sometime too.

Hi BJ
I forgot you went to Alaska before us! We both decided to reminisce about it this month. :-)
It's so cool here today, I almost feel like I'm back in the north country. LOL
Pondside has missed a few of us that she could have met where the ships dock, it would have been nice to connect with her.
