It is cooler today...
96 degrees at noon
so I am working outside...
mowing...
watering...
patting and sweet-talking my little KNOCKOUT rose bushes that have struggled so hard this summer..♥
and JUST LOOK..
after only ONE GLORIOUS RAIN,
I finally have a tiny bud...
THIS vintage wooden dryer was used
to dry herbs and flowers.
I got it years ago from an antiques store and I really love it because it folds flat when I'm not needing to use it.
I use it for airing things, mostly.
I keep telling Mr. Sweet that I don't really need a CLOTHESLINE
but.....?
These two quilts were made by me several years ago..
I just love making quilts.. ♥
I love being able to make them in colors I really love.
It's making the quilt tops that I love doing..
not crazy about the quilting...but there's church groups here
that have quilting ladies...♥you just take your quilt there, get in line and take a number
I haven't done that yet but the last quilt I quilted on my mother's OLDEN Singer
ended with me saying, "NEXT time, I'm taking it to church.!"
I bought THIS olden dryer at a thrift store a couple months ago.
I have NO idea what it was used for..

I just liked the looks of it and knew I could use it to
air my quilts and even pillows.
And, since it also folds flat, I can
stick them up in the attic..
or
better yet,
just slide them under a bed...
When I was a little girl, I was such a scardy-cat
and I was always afraid someone was hiding under my bed and was gonna "get me"...
"No one is under your bed, Jeanie, there's too
much stuff under there and there's not room for a person.", my mama would say....

The day was so lovely that I decided this would be the perfect time to air quilts and such outside.
I have no clotheslines...
but I do have a couple of awesome vintage wooden dryers. ♥♥

sooo sweet when they go on our wintertime beds.
I just delight in having homemade quilts on my beds...
Just something that seems to calm the soul..
and warm the body AND spirit. ♥
When I was growing up, my bed always had a soft and snuggly handmade quilt on it...
It's funny how things from your childhood that made you feel so safe and sound and loved, stays with you for the rest of your life.♥
To this day, when I crawl beneath a handmade quilt, flashes of my bedroom as a little girl, my mother sitting at her sewing machine...the canary bird that only sang when her sewing machine was busy, sewing....♥♥ I love you, Jeanie...now go to sleep...."
I love that I have such wonderful memories...
....pinks and blues and yellows and greens...
roses and plaids and florals and dots... ♥
This was a great day..
lawns, front and back mowed, edged, and water going with the sprinkler.
Quilts airing...
Time to go in for a nice cold drink..
98 degrees is still pretty hot for an olden woman to be doing physical labor..
I KNOW it would be much better for me, after getting hot and working in the yard and getting hot
(yep...I did get hot)
if I would make myself a big ole glass of
LEMON WATER...
But... ♥
I do so love MILK SHAKES...
and after working hard..I DESERVE a reward..
I NEED a reward... ♣
I just fill my glass full of
chocolate...
strawberry...
vanilla ♥ ice cream...
add a capful of VANILLA...
fill with milk
and
SIT UNDER MY CEILING FAN
TURNED ON HIGH...!
and I am sooo happy.
TOMORROW...
I MUST do a little HOUSEWORK..
and you KNOW what they say about HOUSEWORK...
I love you guys...don't we have a LOT of fun together !

Your quilts are beautiful BJ! I will let you in on a little secret. I still think there might be someone under my bed, when I am the only one home! I still do that running, diving leap so the boogey man can't grab my ankles!

Good thing we didn't have more than a few days of it. I couldn't live in Texas. Nope. Could not. Gotta scoot now before I think I should have a milkshake. ☺
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful quilts and I loved sharing a bit of time with you this evening. When we were having the drought here I washed my dishes, I have no dishwasher, in a pan and then threw the rinse water out on my roses and they loved it. I think it was some of the soap residue that they liked. Your milkshake sounded like a great way to chill out after all that heat. Take care.
ReplyDeleteBJ, we had a bit of cloud cover today, so we didn't reach 100 for once. It was supposed to be 108, so very pleasant surprise. I worked in the garden much of the day too. Everything in the front garden is now pruned and hopefully will renew beautifully for fall.

ReplyDeleteEach and every one of those quilts are so beautiful. I love to air dry mine too. I do have a retractable clothesline though so it's handy to pull out and use and then it just retracts and goes away. Everything dries so quickly here. I did a load of jeans today and it took about 8 minutes for them to dry. That's crazy! Enjoy that ice cream, you've been a busy lady and deserve it.

No warts here! Love your quilts, 25 years ago Ma gave me a fold up drying rack and I still use and love it today:@)

ReplyDeleteAhhhhh....I heard the sound of R.A.I.N. I had forgotten what it sounds like! You have some beautiful quilts and I LOVE those racks! Glad you are getting a little relief from the heat. UNDER 100 makes a HUGE difference! I woke to the sound of thunder this morning but that was all we got.

ReplyDeleteYour quilts are wonderful...beautifully done! I grew up with quilts too..in the summer we had very lightweight ones and in the winter we had a couple of REALLY HEAVY ones. Not sure now what Mother used for batting...but it was heavy.

ReplyDelete70's here yesterday! The quilts are so beautiful and there is just nothing quite like the sunshine and fresh air to scent linens. I have to laugh at you and Penny and the boogeyman under the bed. I always thought there was someone under the bed as a kid, couldn't let my leg hang off the bed because I was just sure I someone would grab it!
Love your beautiful quilts, BJ! They always smell so fresh and clean they've been outside in the air. I can't imagine working outside in 96 degree weather. Our climate is so mild here in the Pacific NW and we complain like crazy if it gets up to 80 degrees too many days in a row.
