8/2011....A PINK RIBBON and a GOOD SANDWICH

I had my ANNUAL MAMMOGRAM  this afternoon.

MAMMOGRAMS are much like a
woman's
GUARDIAN ANGEL....

Early breast cancer usually does not cause symptoms. This is why regular breast exams are important. As the cancer grows, symptoms may include:
  • Breast lump or lump in the armpit that is hard, has uneven edges, and usually does not hurt
  • Change in the size, shape, or feel of the breast or nipple -- for example, you may have redness, dimpling, or puckering that looks like the skin of an orange
  • Fluid coming from the nipple -- may be bloody, clear to yellow, green, and look like pus
I was just wondering.......
have YOU had your yearly check?
When I got back home from THE IMAGING CENTER,
I mixed together one of my FAVORITE sandwich fillings..
YES, MA'AM....
CHICKEN SALAD

When I was young and still at home,
my mother always used
onions...
pickles...
mayo
in her Chicken Salad.

I liked it OK....
nothing I ever really *got hungry for*, tho.

NOW that I have discovered how GOOD it is
with grapes and pecans,
I DO get hungry for it...
and OFTEN !!

I have been really surprised at how GOOD the fruit is this year.
I suppose it's because I am right slap-dab in the middle of the worst drought..
everything is so dry here..
*BIG, HUGE UPDATE
We FINALLY got the BEST rain on 8/11.
a little over an inch and a half in our rain gauge.
  ♥
It blows my mind that SOME areas aren't suffering from
either DROUGHT.....or EXCESSIVE FLOODING...
and I suppose these are the states that are raising such luscious fruits.
I LUV Chicken Salad made this way..
JUICY red grapes, so so sweet
and
toasted pecans...
HARD TO BEAT !
...don't forget to make your appointment for your yearly mammo.....♥

It's good to know that you are taking care of yourself and getting that annual mammogram. I had one (and then the diagnostic ultasound) this year.

I have a new feature on my "other" blog. It is Monday Morning Message, just a little start to your week. (The link is not working but you can get there from my profile page)

Yes maam I had one in July!! Your sandwich looks delicious! I have a question. When we lived in Lubbock, there was a very nice department store. I think it was all over Texas but am not sure. I can't remember it's name. I've looked at stores in Lubbock but can't find it so suspect it is no longer around. If you remember, could you please tell me. Thanks!

Best,
Bonnie

So good to know that there was some rain in your corner. Yes, places that have rain are probably doing the best with fruit production...fruits require plenty. Hmmm, chicken salad...running out of here quick.

Hi BJ *hugs*
yummy. I have never tasted a chicken salad like that...it does look very delish...That was such a healthy looking plate.
We've had mroe rain lately...off and on here and there when we least expect it during the day for the past few days. But it a very pleasant warm and the grass is green and the flowers pretty.
have a great day..
Judi
congratulations for winning the lovely giveaway at Shelias!

The earlier the detection is always prudent - it worked for Patti this year, and it was caught early and treatment- good for you for getting tested!

We wish that in places like Lubbock that you got more of the rain we got - 8 inches at JFK airport in New York City in the past 24 hours...

Chicken salad, a great thing. My mother always made this with leftover chicken, and it always had celery in it. Probably why I love celery, although the kids aren't too fond of it...

So do we ever get to stop having those?

Hi BJ
Re: Your Comment...
I am not decorating for Fall either. Other than moving a few things around and adding a bouquet of seasonal flowers, now and then, I do no real seasonal decorating these days.

The mantel was dusty, needed cleaning, when it was empty, it needed something, so I put some chickens and things there and called it a pre-fall mantel and took some pictures and yes, there will be some pumpkins up there in October, if I think about it.

It was something to do and it took my mind off things happening here, that I don't necessarily share with people on the blog, the blog being a Pollyanna sort of place. I gave some thought about even sharing about our daughter's emergency surgery, but in the end decided why not write something about what is happening in our family right now. I know there are folks who think I don't have a brain in my head and happily skip through the days. But we are real people with ups and downs just like other people.

I suppose changing the mantel was a diversion. It was something that cost nothing more than a morning of dusting. Dusting and arranging is just one of the times I meditate...pray. I also find cleaning and arranging cathartic.

The mantel is in just one of the rooms of our home with coffee cups and newspapers strewn all around and childrens toys and books and black Labrador Retriever paw prints. We live in our home and enjoy. It was a hard earned home, built with blood, sweat, tears, heartache and heart break.

Thanks so much for visiting our much loved home, a physical santuary, in the real and, at times, not so pretty world.

Hugs & Thank you for the nudge to make my appointment.

Great post, BJ, and no. I haven't had mine this year yet.

And the salad? Looks so yummy. I went for years never having had a fruity chicken salad. Once I had one, no other kind will do for me.

Oh - that is my FAVORITE way to make chicken salad!! (and we had a super storm Sunday night with quite a bit of rain)!

Just got back home from a sad funeral when I saw your pink ribbon. Lise was a beautifiul cousin who did go for her mammogram 5 years ago and was operated for breast cancer at that time. She has been battling it ever since and it finally took her away at the tender age of 57. I'm still feeling kind of numb.
