WHAAAT?....ANOTHER PIE ??

I saw this beautiful slice of the most delicious sounding
over at MIZ HELEN'S
and just HAD to try it.
Just take a look at her beautiful MERINGUE...
I have a healthy respect for anyone that can make a beautiful MERINGUE...!
They are actually MY HERO !
I was humming...
and wearing an APRON
and feeling all fuzzy and warm inside as I set about
making this beauty for our dinner dessert...
I think I was even
WEARING  PEARLS...

I just LOVE this Cornstarch can..
probably going to add it to my other bottles and cans
so that when I show up on that tv show,
THE HOARDER,
I'll have a darling CAN !

I've never used
HERSHEY'S BAKING BAR
in my Chocolate pies before.
One reason I was so bound and determined to make THIS pie is that I've made Chocolate pies for over 50 years and have always used
HERSHEY'S COCOA POWDER.
I was very anxious to try the baking bar.

It was just about this time, after I had all the magical ingredients mixed together and gently gathering boiling speed on top of the stove...
when I remembered...
NO OVEN...
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE....
My oven broke last week and I have been having to use a tiny oven on the other side of the large one.
I have only ONE pan that will fit in that teeny, tiny oven and it is
{{{{{ RECTANGLE }}}}
for a PIE ??
**
WARNING...
EXTREME UGLY SUBJECT..
You may want to close your eyes....
I just stretched that little ugly, store bought crust into that little pan
and played like
ALL WAS WELL
with the world...
and i made the photo as SMALL as i possibly could...
do NOT enlarge it...if you do, your computer will explode and spit all over you !
 I know...
I know how strange this PIE ??  looks...!
It completely goes against EVERYTHING we ever learned about
PIE...
PIE should be round...
R.O.U.N.D.
But just look at that luscious CHOCOLATE..
and, look....
I had quite a bit left to go into a pretty bowl to DEVOUR later.
I only had TWO EGGS instead of the required THREE...
and my eggs were the MEDIUM instead of the required LARGE..
sooo,
my MERINGUE isn't anywhere NEARLY as lovely as MIZ HELEN'S.
but, gosh o'mighty, it sure did taste good.
I actually started out with 3 eggs and dropped one
IN THE FLOOR....!!!
Mercy me....
It was almost like I wasn't MEANT to make this dessert today
but, BY GOLLY.....
I DID IT ANYWAY.
ahhh, what a woman !
Everything just seemed....well ....SILLY around here today.
Mr. Sweet said he didn't give a  FLYIN' FLIP
what shape this pie was...
round, rectangle or triangle
HE LOVED IT.
It's really....REALLY a great tasting pie.
Served with tart strawberries...
and a little shaved CHOCOLATE on the top...
it brings moans....
THANKS so much, MIZ HELEN, for sharing this treasure with us.
Make one....
you know you want to.

No one in their right mind would show this UGLY UGLY pie to
YVONNE over at STONEGABLE. All of her kitchen wonders
look like they belong in a magazine. I MUST be nuts !
"Yvonne...after seeing this TRAIN WRECK, will you still love me?"
...you have to look hard for BLUE in this post but I wanted to link with
SMILING SALLY and ask everyone to continue to pray for her FULL RECOVERY.
WE LOVE YA, SALLY..

  1. I hated geometry in high school, so I totally agree with Mr. Sweet, no matter what shape, it is the taste that counts! I am also sure that Yvonne still loves you, too. xo,

  2. Oh stop...you're killin' me. I am going to have to try that pie. And being in the middle of a recipe and not having the right stuff happens to me too. Glad you stuck with it cause it looks delicious no matter what the shape!!

  4. BJ,
Mr. Sweet is right! The shape doesn't matter. In fact, some of my best and most delicious desserts have been lacking in the...um...good looks category!
The best part is that all the things that didn't go as planned - you called them "silly", and I do believe that's the best word for them!
And I'll bet that Yvonne loves you more after this post than ever before.

  6. I think all the mishaps just made your post cuter! The top does look good, I am like you, if you can make a high meringue, then you are my hero. Thanks for passing along the recipe.

  7. Looks yummy in any shape. We are eating those PB cookies tonight. They are good.
Lovely granddaughters.....do you have any grandsons?
    Stay cool down there.

  8. You are the woman! Wowser. Give her a lemon or two and she can whip up a chocolate meringue pie in no time flat. I'm truly impressed and shaking my head in the affirmative even as I type these words. I'm probably the only one who does that.

Yes, the Clabber Girl can is adorable. If you save yours, I'm going to have to save mine.

  10. yummy yummy yummy! Oh my! I LOVE PIE!!! I always asked for pie instead of cake for my birthdays. We have a little pie place called Grand Traverse Pie Company. I LOVE IT! I think I am gonna make some pie this week. You have inspired me. I dont make them often because the Hubby is a Diabetic.
The Grands are soooooo beautiful! You are Blessed. I am thinking they are as beautiful on the inside as outside... There is a sparkle that cant be denied. Especially if they have your genes. Any Grandsons?

  23. Stopping by from StoneGable. I love your rectangle pie, ingenuity! I probably would have chucked the whole project and had no delicious pie - rectangular, square or circle. Good job!

  24. Oh BJ, you did my chocolate pie proud! I laughed so hard that Honey Bunny came in and then he started reading and laughing then a big "that's right buddy" to Mr. Sweet. It looked great to us and we would love a big slice right about now. You have honored me and I thank you, you are a true West Texas Treasure!!

Just goes to show.. we live in a world of habit... you showed us pie's don't have to be round to look and taste good. Trish

  33. You sound like me forgetting things like a broken oven. I was tempted to enlarge the picture so my computer would explode and then I could taste the pie. Right? It looks good rectangle or round.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A round pie does feed as many people as your large square, so everything turned out wonderful. It still looks yummy, enjoy!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. That pie looks mighty delicious no matter what shape it is! If pizza can be rectangular why can't a sweet pie? Maybe you are on to something here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Looks good to me and mighty yummy:) I am with Mr. Sweet, I don't care that it isn't round! Enjoy your day dear BJ! HUGS!

  37. You might be on to something here BJ! A square pie franchise...

It looks yummy, can I come over?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, BJ, you had me COL(chuckling out loud)all through the post, and I must say your pie certainly ended up to be yummy-licious!! I mean seriously, the meringue is perfect, and I never turn down chocolate in any shape or form.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think your pie is perfect, BJ. All this means that you are a real problem solver. I know Yvonne will be happy as can be to have your pie on Menu Monday. Love that chocolate - meringue combo.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh sweet BJ! How could anyone not love you! What a cute post, and I'm sure no one gives a darn what shape that pie is. You turned a bad situation into a "silly" one, and I just loved it. I love lemon meringue pie, and it's a summer dessert, but hard to make the meringue in the heat and humidity. The molicules in the meringue break down in the humidity, causing it to flop lol! Then, there is the "weeping". I will have to make this anyway! Your grandaughters are beautiful!

    Love and hugs,
    Debbie

  41. Oh yes, I want to make that pie. BUT I have an ity bitty problem. I can't leave sweets alone. I would nibble on it til there were only crumbs left and poor husband wouldn't stand a chance! Yours looks BEEutaFUL! :)

  44. WHO said pie had to be round?! We can do anything we want to, girl! Chocolate pie sounds wonderful and you have me going into the kitchen to find stuff to make my own pie. LOL Heck- who needs a crust? The pudding alone will be heaven! :-)

  48. I love to hear that others do some of the same "adjustments" that I do. "I don't have this, so I'll use that" or "I forgot to put in the ____ so I'll just sprinkle it on top"! I think it looks great, just don't call it pie. Call it chocolate layered squares!

  49. You have seven of the prettiest models ever. A fine group of young ladies that anyone would be proud of. I have cooked in the past things, I threatened to throw away, that turned out to taste great. Sometimes the wost turns out to be the best.

  50. Have to give this one a try. Doesn't matter what it looks like, if it is chocolate or peanut butter, it's gonna get eaten. BY ME!!! Right now I working on a magnificent carrot cake.
