CHOCOLATE GRAVY
1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 cups whole milk
♥
Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa. Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and whisk well to remove lumps. Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits. ♥

HERSHEY'S COCOA
holds the BEST childhood memories for me..
Every single time I get it down from the top shelf in my cabinet,
I smile...
It takes me right back to DALLAS and my beloved cousin, SKEET. ♥
SKEET lived in Dallas and when I would go spend a little time in the summer with my daddy...
we always got SKEET to come stay, too.
Our very favorite SWEET was COCOA and SUGAR.
We'd mix it all up in a cup and nearly CHOKE to death on it's sugary powder.
We loved it sooo much and now that we are in our 70's,
we STILL talk about it every time we visit on the phone.
OK....so back to my gravy....
CHOCOLATE gravy...♥
OOO....my gosh !
WHERE HAVE I BEEN ALL MY LIFE ??
It's hard to believe one can live over seventy years and never have
GLORIOUS CHOCOLATE GRAVY..

YUM...leave it to Diane to come up with something so delish! ;D
ReplyDeleteI have never eaten chocolate gravy. I had never even heard of it until I married my husband. He said he grew up on it. I guess if I was a really good wife I would make him some-no better not-he had a heart attack after I fed him some chocolate cake.!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Now doesn't that just look like the perfect way to start the day:@)
ReplyDeleteI haven't made chocolate gravy in years. . .thanks for sharing the recipe, not sure I could find mine.
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Carol
When I was in grade school, we were all trying to earn our Nine Point Health Pins, whatever that was... It was some kind of program by President Kennedy, I think... anyway we had to tell what we had for breakfast, and the teacher would critique it.. I'll never forget the awful day I told her I had apple pie for breakfast... She looked so disapprovingly at me and said, "Maybe you could eat that, but I sure couldn't" I wonder what Mrs. Cotter would think about chocolate gravy? Yum, honey... that looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYum!!! I am so glad that you stopped by my blog. I am your newest follower. Your blog is great!!!

I have never heard of chocolate gravy. I don't think I could eat something so sweet in the morning though....not sure. LOOKS delicious though! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI have heard of this but never tried it. I am pretty sure I would love it since I like sweet and salty together. Definitely would have a slice of bacon with it!:-)

ReplyDeleteOh goodness! Another (sinful) chocolate temptation! I just can't take it:>) lol.
ReplyDeleteMy kids would never let me live it down if I made chocolate gravy.
I am a huge chocoholic but this is the first I've heard about it. How could that happen?
ReplyDeleteI grew up just outside of Hershey, PA and I can still smell the cocoa. Not sure how I missed out on chocolate gravy, but it sure sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteBJ, This looks fabulous! I could eat chocolate every day for breakfast. Thanks for sharing the recipe at my party.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
I have always heard of chocolate gravy but haven't ever tried it. What a treat that would be. We always have the ingredients on hand. I'm thinking that would be wonderful on a cold winter day with a cup of coffee. :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate biscuits were a very popular dessert in Alabama during the Great Depression. Folks would save their leftover biscuits from breakfast, reheat them, and pour chocolate gravy over them for dessert at supper. We have the cutest tea shop here in Birmingham called The Chocolate Biscuit. I love them, and your look super delicious, BJ!!!
ReplyDeletefor breakfast? on biscuits? with bacon? *thud*
ReplyDeleteHey Bj- I was waiting for this so I could copy the link back to your blog...all set now!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you loved it..Can you still zip your shorts up? A true test of something so good your waistband cuts into you! Speaking of which..MyHero just went to pick up root beer floats...told him to make my own sugar free!
Your grandkids are going to love this little "treat"...more dessert than breakfast, isn't it? xo Diana
The biscuits look awesome and the chocolate gravy looks interesting. I wonder how it would taste on homemade ice cream? Thanks to you and Diane for sharing. Ginger
ReplyDeleteThis looked so yummy I decided to follow you! I feel the pounds adding up as I speak, er... type.
ReplyDeleteOK, so you know I'm not a big "sweets" fan, but you just hit my sweets button - CHOCOLATE! Hmmm. I've never tried it on biscuits...AND I'M FROM THE SOUTH! Gravy with biscuits is one of the main food groups down here. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to the party, BJ. You're one of my favorite guests. Actually, you're one of my favorite blogging buddies - period! ;)

You are such a hoot. I want to lick the screen, too. I have not made that and am afraid if I do I will eat it all. Hubby is not a huge super chocolate fan.
ReplyDeleteBJ, I also love cole slaw with BBQ sandwiches....just a thought:):) XO
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I've never heard of such a thing. I love biscuits and I love chocolate...so why not? I'm not sure I could do it for breakfast...maybe dessert or an afternoon snack??
ReplyDeleteI tried to comment on the wonderful pie post. You left me drooling with that peach pie, but blogger won't let me comment on it.
I could do chocolate gravy. I am going to have to try this out. My kids and the hubby would love it. They would do anything, except clean their rooms, for chocolate! Nothing can make them clean their rooms.
ReplyDeleteI love biscuits (and yours sure did look good!. And I love chocolate gravy Just not the two together. LOL I once went with a friend to visit her grandmother and all the way there she raved about her Grandmother's Chocolate Gravy. I couldn't wait. Got to admit I was very disappointed, though I didn't want her to know.
ReplyDeleteFun memory...But I can't throw stones at you because I like a biscuit topped with a fresh slice of tomato and smothered in Cream Gravy. Is that strange?
Looks delicious! And with some bacon? I think I would love the sweet of the sauce and the salt of the bacon! YUM!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Gloria
I love chocolate gravy!
ReplyDeleteI didn't grow up eating it but dated a boy in high school whose family made all manner of redneck delights -fried spam sandwiches, squirrel dumplings, & chocolate gravy. The first two didn't appeal to me but as soon as he mentioned chocolate gravy I was intrigued.
Years later as I was driving down the road I heard a DJ talking about it and they gave out the recipe on air. I pulled over grabbed a pen and the closest sheet of scrap paper to me, wrote it down, and have been making chocolate gravy ever since. Thanks for spotlighting this little known delicacy. :)
I seriously am dieing here....OMGoodness what perfection
ReplyDeleteOh goodness...and I do mean goodness!
ReplyDeletebj, forget the biscuits and bacon, just pass that big bowl of chocolate. I'm sure I would be walking on air all day.
