bj....how does your garden grow...

I know some of you remember that, last week,
MR. SWEET put up this darling black, trimmed in white, awning for me.
Now, an awning, ESPECIALLY when it is flanked by two cute, simple shutters
that Mr. Sweet made with his own two hands.....
just CALLS for a
beautiful window box.
Here he is, just building and routing away ...

He even made the cute corbels...all handmade.
WHAT A MAN.!
 I PAINTED IT !
and may I just say....
lookin' gooood.

My little humble cottage now sports a great looking awning
AND
a darling window box.
"I sure do thank you, Mr. Sweet...you did SUCH a good job..."

hmmmm...looking at this photo shows me that I need to add
a little color somewhere....wonder what?
I DID, at one time, have some beautiful bright red flowers in pots in front of the porch
but drought and H.O.T. sun brought 'em to their knees and they are LONG gone.
and HEY..who left the door open?
Facing North and beneath the awning,
I chose a few shade loving plants for now...
I hope, with hand watering and MIRACLE GROW, they will thrive,
thus filling my box with lovely greens...
Can ya see it...just full and overflowing?
Now...I AM supposed to PLANT these in soil in the box, right?
Some of the plants might do ok for awhile in the little containers...
but not for long.
They are all in pots here...
I haven't actually PLANTED them but I do have potting soil standing by.
I would LOVE to find some flowering shade loving plants..
maybe later...
I am just hoping and hoping the FERN will do well here...
I just LOVE it...
I hope to buy more but, as some of you might know,
we have to take baby steps in our buying power around Sweet Nothings.
We have to do a little at a time..as our Social Security checks allow us.
We found out plants are NOT CHEAP, either.
When all the plants grow and the box begins to FILL in...
and....spill over
it is going to be sooo pretty...
and I am sooo proud of it all.
I JUST LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER.
:))

I was going to ask if you would mind renting out Mr. Sweet? He does such good work. As the saying goes, behind every great man, there is a great woman coaxing him on! :) xo,

BJ,
Isn't it wonderful to be married to someone who can do stuff like that? It just amazes me.
The front of your home looks lovely, with the shutters, and the window box, the front porch.
Very nice!

BJ, you are spoiled by that man of yours...isn't it wonderful. Sounds like my honey..I mention and it usually happens.

The fern should do real well...winter time put in a cool place in the house or garage...it will shed some...but will come back next year.

Have a great week...rain would be nice.

Hi BJ-- Love the new additions to the front of your home. I always have good luck with impatiens in the shade here in drought stricken Colorado, but they do take some water. They are quite colorful! I was at Home Depot yesterday to pick up a few more plants - they were a little cheaper since we are getting more into the season. Good Luck with the gardening. Sally

You and Mr. Sweet make a marvelous team! You think of the plans, and he brings them to life. :-)

Oh yes, it is so nice to have a handy husband!!!!! :-) WE are lucky.

And it looks just marvelous. I love how you find visions of how you want something to look. Love it!

Oh as to color... You must have a couple of RED pillows, around somewhere. Wouldn't they look great out there? :-)

Oh Bj, I got so carried away (you know what I mean) that I forgot to leave a post on your garden last night. It was beautiful last year and am praying for rain...for you and all of Texas. Heard today there's another huge fire devouring thousands of acres near Palo Pinto.

Mr. Sweet sure does a nice job building things for you. It's good to have a good man around the house!

You are married to a gem, BJ!! The shutters and window boxes look beautiful. For shade, we love impatiens here. Geraniums look pretty in a window box, too.

Enjoy!! :-)

Wow, your hubby did a fine job on that. That asparagus fern will grow like crazy. I have had them and they just keep on growing and growing hot or not.

I would think about planting all your plants in a plastic container that fits inside your window box. You could line it with some small stones for drainage.
Give it a few weeks and it will be beautiful. What a handy Mr. Sweet!

Bj- It is just amazing the differece that made in the looks of your house. It looks "dressed" now..homier...I love it.

And..when you are tired of your old boy send him my way...MyHero is not much on "hands on" work...but he is a grand talker! He preaches so you could be his audience and he can practice on you. Sounds like a fair trade to me! xo Diana

Oh BJ I just love awnings and had one over the sideporch in our old home. There were awnings on this house too but the water and weather wore them out and the cost to replace was so much we haven't done it. And I love the black and white of yours. Does Mr. Sweet hire out? The window boxes are just so charming. xo Lynn

Your window box looks charming, BJ. It really adds the perfect touch to your home's facade. I used to have window boxes at my old house and I just love them. Your plan has come together beautifully and you have every right to be proud. Great job!!

Can I borrow Mr Sweet for a week? Me and you can sit on the porch sipping Margheritas while he makes me some of those beautiful flower boxes. Beautiful! Mine is handy, but I am always last on the list. I have been bugging him for a walkway in the front for 5 years now. What is he doing next week? Putting in a front walk for his mom who asked him to do it LAST week! I give up! Men!

It is amazing what a little touch of something can make in a place. The awning and window box was just the right touch. You have a nice home and definitely filled with lots of goodies. My husband was a great handy man as well. I really miss that.

Your awning and the darling window box look absolutely perfect there! Your Mr. Sweet sure is a keeper:-) He does beautiful wood work.

Yesterday I went to the nursery to buy flowers and you're right, they're not cheap! Ouch!! I ended up not buying as many as I had intended because it would have cost a fortune. Today I planted my Impatiens in my faerie garden because they love the shade and I planted Petunias in my window boxes which I have on the deck railings.

Nice bright pillows on your swing would bring a splash of colour:-) xoxo
