Never heard of that magazine but they sure look sweet! I love paperdolls and would love to get the granddaughters to like them too, sooooo I can play with them:)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend reading your magazine:) HUGS!
These paper dolls are adorable.
ReplyDeletewhat a great eBay find. Enjoy!
I loved that magazine. What a great find.!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember that magazine! I remember playing with paper dolls as a child!
ReplyDeleteHi BJ, I loved Home Companion and was so sorry when they stopped publishing it. I still have a lot of the old issues and still love looking at them. The art and paper dolls were always a great added bonus.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have some really nice evenings leafing through those magazines. I recently picked up an old ME decorating book and have found a thing or two to make from it.
ReplyDeleteOh, B.J., thank you for the sweet memories. I LOVE Mary! I still have a few (well if a dozen can be considered a few) of her magazines that I can't part with. In fact, some of them moved here with us 20 years ago. My husband said "you're not packing your magazines are you?" and I said "you're not taking your medical journals are you?". Guess what? Mary and Gourmet (20 years worth!!!!! of Gourmet) came with us.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I love the paper dolls! I hate when something good goes away. I felt that way about the Hallmark magazine too. But Mary was sweet. Hugs Anne
ReplyDeleteI have learned something new. I thought I knew all the magazines but never heard of this one. I do remember paper dolls. Nice work on your header its adorable. Trish
ReplyDeleteOh BJ Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteA wonderful share. I absolutely adored Home Companion. It was one of my favorites because of my love for cherries. I too, saved each of the paper dolls. Aren't they just the sweetest of all? I too believe definitely suitable for framing. The paper dolls bring back memories to me of Betsy McCall. Do you remember her being in the McCall magazine years back? I loved it when Momma got her magazine, because I got a new paper doll. What fun that was.
Oh thank you for sharing with me this evening. You touched a memory sweet friend. I love it when you do that.
Have a wonderful weekend sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
BJ, you know I smiled as I read through this post. Want to play paper dolls sometime? LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have these issues. Never thought about buying back issues on eBay. Great idea!
Thanks for sharing these. Enjoy! ~ Sarah
Best thing ever in my childhood was cut-outs or paper=dolls. Those are priceless. Deb=^..^=x4
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever heard of that magazine, but those paper dolls are adorable. I love 'old fashioned looking' little drawings like that. I DO remember the Dick and Jane books from school! I LOVED the drawings of those kids - they all look like they were so happy and life was so simple for them! Plus, they never looked dirty! LOL! Enjoy your magazines. :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
Gloria
Mary is a sort of "hometown girl" BJ!:-) Always loved the magazine.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that Mary E. was no longer publishing her magazine...
ReplyDeleteIs she OK? Did her magazine simply run its course, of having readers? Actually, I stopped getting it... When I no longer resonated with some things.
Yes, those paper dolls and pictures, were simply precious.
~♥~
I too am a Mary fan. I have kept a stack of her magazines for years. I did tear out the paper dolls for the little girl next door. I took one of her prints and framed it for my bathroom.I really miss the magazine..especially the times that she featured different artists and their studios. I learned to love color in my home from Mary...Balisha
ReplyDeleteI adore Home Companion too and still have my back issues! It's such a shame the cost of publishing has gone up so much that major magazines are no longer around. Thanks for the visit and the sharing~my favorite is "GOTCHA"!!
ReplyDeleteWow that was a great find! I used to LOVE her magazines! AND I "ALWAYS" loved paper dolls, we used to make our own. I remember my Mom drawing dolls on the cardboard that came in dress shirts. and we'd color them and then make clothes, WOW was that fun! Right next to our clothespin dolls. The nice thing today is you can scan the dolls and NOT HAVE to cut the magazine to play with them!!! "Have fun with the Kiddies"!!!
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs,
Donna
I've been going through all of my old magazines and just keeping the good parts. My Home Companions are the exception though. They will all stay in one piece...because all they are is "good parts".
ReplyDeleteWhat a find. You were very lucky. Paper dolls were a favorite when I was growing up :-). Who ever dreamed there would be a Barbie. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteLovely post and blog! Paper dolls were one of my favorite childhood past times and these vintage ones are adorable. Thanks so much for stopping by, it so nice to meet you!

Hi BJ,
ReplyDeleteOh, how I miss this magazine. I have almost every issue while it was in publication. I need to go through them to see which ones I'm missing to see if I can get the back issues.
ME is such a whimsical artist that always brings out the playful side of life. So glad you got these issues...I know you'll enjoy every page!
Pink Sparkles for your week,
Stephanie ♥
I loved Home Companion too. I actually have lots of Mary goodies in my classroom. Just seems right. :)

ReplyDeleteI loved that magazine. I sure wish it was still being published.
ReplyDeleteThe paper dolls were always so cute.
I do not buy many magazines anymore, so I was not aware this one had been discontinued. I love the dolls you shared. I am not sure if I could part with them after learning the story.
ReplyDeleteI have saved every single ME copy! I was actually in one of the 1998 issues...it was an article about hammered aluminum.
ReplyDeleteI used to tear out the paperdolls and save them in a folder for my FUTURE granddaughter! Now, I have five granddaughters, and you know what? Not one of them played paperdolls! Thanks for sharing your blues.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday, BJ.
Hey, I'm visiting your blog via the 'Something Blue' bloghop.. what a beautiful post :)) see you again next week!! Melissa
ReplyDeleteHi BJ This looks just like my son's broken tooth! He was riding his bicycle and doing fancy jumps--landed on his tooth and broke it. I'm guessing your grandgirl did this too!! Beverly

Oh what a great find! Don't you just love having all those beauties to peruse at your leisure? :)
ReplyDeleteOh I soooooo agree about Home Companion. I can't believe I have the entire set. I bought them all & have saved them. Hubby says the house will crack off the foundation due to the weight of all the magazines & books.... ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Show Off Your Cottage Monday & I hope to join in again soon! Charlene
What a find! Great fun too. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great E-bay find! Happy Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteBJ, What an adorable magazine! I loved seeing the pictures. Thanks for stopping by for salsa! I was not working, but now am employed full time again and thus my blogging and visiting has decreased greatly. I miss it, yet my after hours in this nice weather are more likely spent gardening than sitting at the computer. I no longer blog at Food As Art but do blog at Beyond The Garden Gate http://beyondthegardengate-beth.blogspot.com I do a lot of gardening things there but I try to do some tea posts too when I have time! Never enough hours in the day, BJ!
