I LOVE SHELVES...and A WINNER

DONNA at FUNKY JUNK INTERIORS is having her weekly meme
on SHELVING this Saturday..
So, here is some of MY shelving/shelves...
*
I just discovered the other day that...
I LOVE SHELVES..
just LUV them...
I guess I have a SHELF FETISH....
O, MY...at my age, just the word FETISH makes me nervous. :)
While thrifting, I found this little spice shelf...
it was a natural pine color
and I grabbed my favorite creamy white spray and went to town...
Now, I'm not real sure where to use it or what to put on it....

This was a very simple, pine shelf that I found at the thrift store...
I found these gorgeous iron swirly, rusted brackets and had MR. SWEET attach them .
I LOVE the way it turned out..
...I don't display many items on it...
I think just the shelf itself is pretty enough !
I'm using the same sweet shelf here, in the living room alcove, holding a few ironstone pitchers.
This is a tiny wooden shelf that I've had so long,
I can't remember where in the world I got it...
probably at a fabulous garage sale, tho !!
Most of the time, I don't sit anything on it.
I also picked up this tiny little green shelf...
this little lidded tea/coffee pot seems to have a pewter lid...I thought it was silver for awhile
but it never shines...even with a good cleaning with WRIGHTS SILVER POLISH...
'Course, this shelf is green and.....I'm not really into a lot of green right now but this is all chippy and worn and I hate to start all over on it...
......maybe LATER in the spring..

This sweet little intricate shelf was at a flea market once...a long long time ago..
It hangs in my kitchen..
with ivy and a little cast iron fairy...

...and a little cast iron bird, on a pedestal...nestled in the trailing ivy at my kitchen window....
This little shelf gets a new look pretty often...
Shelving in my VERY narrow entry hall allows me to use pretty
things in here without taking up any floor space.
My olden shelves full of numbered baskets is one of my favorites.
MR SWEET made these shelves to fit over my 2 dining room windows...
I actually need to take everything down, clean and go with something different for awhile..

I ordered this little shelf and quilt holder years ago...
from somewhere like...THE COUNTRY DOOR or someplace like it.
That's my mama's work of art quilt hanging there...
I also need to take it down, toss it in the dryer with a softener sheet to refresh it...
*heavy sigh........maybe sometime this spring...!
This complete wall of shelving is, by far, my favorite.
Mr. Sweet was going to build the bookshelves for this wall but by
the time he bought all the lumber, it was going to cost around $300.
and we just couldn't afford it.
I went thrifting one day and when I walked into one of the stores,
there, leaning up against the back wall was this entire book shelving.
SOMEone had remodeled their home and removed these...
I nearly fainted dead away when told they were $80.00.
I called Mr. Sweet, had him measure the said wall...
then I measured the bookshelves...
I said, "Can you come right now?"
He said, "I am sitting at a red light, as we speak"
O HONEY
I was so proud of these bookshelves, I didn't know straight up from down.
I enjoy them every single day.
*
I almost always leave you with a little something to eat or drink...
 ....strawberry sherbet and ginger ale..

AIN'T LIFE GRAND !

BJ,
Congratulations to Lynn! You are the sweetest, dearest blog friend...I know she will treasure her gift from you!
Your shelves are just darling in your home! Wonder if that spice rack is compatible for plates or cook books? Just a thought; however I'm sure you'll WoW us with your choice of display. Thanks for sharing all the creative ways to use shelves. Now I'd better go check-out how I've used mine!
Fondly,
Pat

I am right there with you girlfriend. I love shelves too. I don't really have any in the house other than my sewing room and oh brother do I have shelves. Stacked with fabric of course and other craftings items. I guess the reason I don't have any shelves on the walls in this house is because I really haven't found any I like.

I love, love your bookcase. I would have nearly fainted had I found that and heard the price. I know my palms would have been sweating. There is something to be said about being in the right place at the right time.

I am going to try the Strawberry sherbet and ginger ale. Sounds yummy. I think I will serve it on Easter.

Hugs, Sue

Congrats to Lynn and all great pics of your shelves BJ! Must have been fate to find the big perfect ones at the Thrift that day! I love it when that happens:@)

Love all your shelves, BJ! Your newest is sweet!
Congrats to the winner!

I just got home from Christmas Tree Shop. That will be it for a while. Gas is 4.05 for the cheapest, and it is 110 miles round trip. I did my grocery shopping in there too, it is cheaper in there, better sales. Have to get a lot done in one trip.

Happy PS, BJ!
Oh that strawberry sherbet with ginger ale is making my mouth water! Running to the store tomorrow, in the rain, to get me some!
I am a shelf person, too. Until I read your post I never thought about it, but it is hard for me to walk past a pretty shelf...I am especially fond of corner shelves, somehow, but we only have so many corners in the house....lol!

Oh my! I can't believe I won, BJ!! I was just heading off to bed after a very long day of stripping vinyl flooring adhesive off my back hall stairs (I'm too old for this!!) when I checked my email and saw I won the beautiful enamel sign. Thank you so much, BJ! I never win anything but my Irish momma does and I can't wait to tell her about this. What a delightful ending to a physically challenging day. I will have sweet dreams, for sure. And I LOVE your shelves, btw. I love little knick knack shelves and never lack goodies to fill them. Thanks for blessing me tonight and for following Cottage and Creek. I so appreciate it.
Hugs,
Lynn

Happy Pink Saturday BJ Sweetie...
What a gorgeous share today. I love each and every one of your shelves. They are so delightful. I love that we can add a little pop of fun in so many otherwise bland places. DH never complains when I ask him to come here, as he knows I need another something hung somewhere. I love your old shelves with the numbered baskets. They look so pretty BJ. Your wall of book shelves is beautiful. We love to read and never have enough room on the shelves for all of our books. These just really make your room. 80 bucks, what a deal.

And before I leave, that darn sherbet and ginger ale was delish. You have the most wonderful recipes sweet friend. Thank you for sharing today. Have a glorious weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Can you believe I have very few shelves in my house BJ. I always enjoy yours though, and I don't have to dust them. lol

Congratulations to the winner!

Your shelves are cute but....... Do you have a "Dusting Faerie" come by, daily? -gigggles-

That's the trouble with shelves, they have to be dusted.

Gentle hugs,
.♥.

Congratulations, Lynn.

I get hungry every time I visit you. :o)

Have a fantastic weekend!

Auntie sezzzzzz... said...

-giggles- Yes, *exhaling*! ,-))) Isn't that *the nuts*?!? For softnessssssssss...

I used to read a lovely, lovely blog, with soft, soft, soft photos. I was in *lust,* of course. So, I asked the lovely lady and she told me!

One has to experiment a bit, to get an even-all-over softnesssss. But isn't it a fun new trick????

Which I need, because my iPhoto program doesn't have an all-over-softness way. I have a "softness starts at corners and continues inward." But the middle usually stays... un-softened. Like my Header pic.

Gentle hugs,
.♥.

All of your shelves are so nice and your displays so attractive. I think my favorite is the "olden" shelves with the numbered baskets. Love that one!

I'm off to look for some wall space for more shelves...

Congratulations to Lynn on her win!

Happy Pink Saturday! I was going backwards on Beverly's links. When I started working backwards I was on No. 194. I'll have to work backwards again. The list is longer. I didn't see your link, so I came over to peek and see if you were doing pink today. I remember some of your shelves. The hall and the angel. Great idea on the numbered baskets. Some people do things. I just think about them! Ha. Love ya! Happy Pinks! Jenn

BJ, I love shelves too, and you have such petty shelves. How wonderful it is that you FOUND the shelves that Mr. Sweet was going to try to build! What a great deal! Love that long, narrow set of decorative shelves you have on the wall, and you were so smart to dress up that little set with the pretty brackets. Strawberry Sherbet and ginger ale ~ you've got my mouth watering. Thank you for linking to Favorite Things. laurie
