Guess who's coming to dinner....

...black and white and red all over..
that's a newspaper, right ?
:)
My little white, thrifted tea pot, full of prettiness.
Our good friends were coming over for dinner..
and a hot game of cards...
10 High
Ya'll ever played it?

White dishes from
Pier One
and
The Dollar Store
I made my very first ROUND of Soda Bread for our dinner of
baked chicken breast
Hoppin John
Green Salad with Cranberries and Cranberry Dressing.
It was all sooo good and we all really enjoyed the warm soda bread with butter.
♥♥♥
to tell her how much we enjoyed her recipe,
this was her reply.....
"You don't know how happy it makes me to hear that you all enjoyed the bread.  Thanks for letting me know.  I'll definitely be looking forward to your post."
-Lisa (Sweet as Sugar Cookies)
She has the recipe over at her place..
would you tell her bj said HEY.?
I had only two of the little ROOSTER napkin rings
so I just tied red checked ribbon full of cuteness, with a solid black napkin ring for the other two.
I, OF COURSE, set the ROOSTERS at the guys place settings..
They got a kick out of it.
Since Mr. Kenneth is diabetic, I served
sugar free chocolate pudding with Cool Whip, also sugar free,
and topped them with fresh strawberry slices.
I used my thrifted little white ramekins and they were just perfect.
 THEN, the games began.
Martha and I started 2nd grade together in Plainview, Texas, waaaay back when.
We are the best of friends now and  we really love getting together with this sweet couple.
Some of you may remember that she suffered a stroke several months back
and she has just STUNNED all of us with her fight, determination and success at
getting back to her normal self.
Oh..things are still slow for her..but..she's sure *gettin' there*.
I am very proud of her.
She's laughing so hard 'cause she beat the pants off all of us!
Her hubby had what we thought was a cold but ended up in the hospital the next day
with pneumonia.
He's out and doing much better.
I tell ya...
there's nothing like getting together with
old friends for a good meal..
good visit..
and
lots and lots of laughter.

BJ, you seem to be one of the happiest people in the world to me. Your smile is simply infectious. Can you believe I've never played cards in my life? I've never gone bowling either. I know, strange. I love your kitchen and someday hope to sit there and eat a meal with ya!

Lovey table setting and your menu sounded so good. Being a diabetic myself I would have really enjoyed the dessert you served. I am so glad your friend is on the mend I know what she is going through for I myself suffered a slight stoke last year and had other problems that kept me in the hospital for 2 months but I am doing fine now. Have a blessed evening. Madeline

Your menu sounds delish, and your soda bread looks really good! I thought soda bread was hard to make. I am glad your buddy is better. I have never played 10 high, and the guys getting the rooster napkin rings is too, too cute. Who won? I must have missed that part....I need to go back and see ;P

The elegance of any table setting is in the details - the small yet not insignificant things stand out. The cost of the plates and flatware matters little. The checkerboard placemats and napkins stand out, a small touch. The berries offer the ruby here. Very nice!

What a great table, as fresh as a daisy.
I have made soda bread 1000's of times, but never with red pepper flakes. That is really different!
So happy about your friend, and I know YOU are a wonderful friend to her!
