DEMIJOHNS....

♥♥♥ Would you kindly vote in my survey ♥♥♥
 *****************************************************
dem·i·john  (dm-jn)
n.
A large, narrow-necked bottle made of glass or earthenware, usually encased in wickerwork.
They come in all shapes and sizes but the wickerwork is generally one of three shades.
I think they are just beautiful...
I really have a passion for them.
They look so good wherever you put them and add tons of character and texture to rooms.

Some of you may remember when I did MY version of demijohns
and put it side by side with POTTERY BARN'S display.
I LOVE doing that...:)
LEFT: POTTERY BARN woven wine bottles...$99 to $279.00
RIGHT: SWEET NOTHINGS....thrifted for $2.00 to $6.00
and MR. SWEET dug up the olden, thick dark green glass bottle so.....free..

NOW, Pottery Barn describes their demijohns as "found" items...
meaning, I guess, *vintage*
They must have *found* a really big lot of demijohns to be able to
offer them for sale to the MILLIONS of people their catalog goes to....?
...just sayin'
POTTERY BARN...top left...
bj's....bottom left...
just having fun with it......
YUM #1
Oh, and this one is on Ebay with a starting price of over $300.00
and look at the big hole in it..!!
and this one...a smaller one for somewhere around $125.00
It's 12 inches high...wicker cap missing.
LOVE the color of this one..
YUM #2
This one is MINE...
12" high and with the wicker cap.
Yep...found it last night.....
I already had one almost just like it but...........
YUM #3
(YUM...Box Strawberry Cake,
Creme Cheese Icing
fresh strawberries.....)
don't they all look cool together ?
That's the newest one, on the right.
Oh....
and the REALLY cool thing...
YUM #4

and may I just say...
O HONEY
I was SOOO doing the
♫♪ DEMIJOHN  SHUFFLE ♪♪♫
out that store...and even MR. SWEET'S feet did a shuffle or two.
He looked a little like PATRICK SWAYZE in DIRTY DANCING...:)))
YUM #5

POTTERY BARN

They have so many pretty things and can sit a table that looks like a million dollars.
We just can't always do that....
If you like something in a catalog but don't have
the necessary THINGS they are showing....copy it..

Choose something else that's interesting
and different...
For instance, I am using this
VINTAGE SHOT BAG to house a
an extra special bottle of wine...

FOUND items, whether they are from Pottery Barn or other great stores  that can be a bit pricey,
or from GOODWILL, garage sales, other thrifty places, and our own LAND of ETSY,are so so cute to use on your tables...something a little different from all the others...and I LOVE that !!.....don't you?

Thanks so much, ladies, for hosting...

I do love that...and would never pay such big bucks for things like this..found together with the honey and doing the dance is the best way to go! ;D

BJ, I noticed a dealer at Round Top that had a truck load of demijohns and they all looked just about the same. I suspect it was a truck load from China, not vintage pieces at all. The prices were a lot less than what most are, but not the great deals you found. You go girl!
Great post! ~ Sarah

I like the idea of taking a pic from a catalog and recreating it for yourself! I might just try this too! Those strawberries are looking mighty fine BJ-enjoy:@)

I am just like you BJ! I use PB, Ballards, Pierre Deux etc to get my inspiration, then go find it for A LOT less. I love your demijohns.

Hugs,
Penny

BJ you tickle me. I love all your yum! You have some very nice demijohns and those prices on ebay are crazy. I have seen nice ones with and without the wicker and much larger for under $100 at the antique mall. Those ebay folks are crazy!

Good for you! soak the 3.99 one in tea and make it look really old. Sell it on ebay for a ton.

What a great collection of demijohns you have, and you make such pretty vignettes with them. How funny is that one you found on ebay for $$$$$ with a hole in it.
I love your comparison photos with Pottery Barn. One of my favorite shops but I have to wait for the drastic mark downs....OH, that Strawberry Cake, YUM!
Have a great day.......

Very interesting post BJ. I have seen demijohns for years but never knew what they were called, or that they even had a name. I love the way you displayed yours. Now I am going to be watching for demijohns in my wanderings.

Hello bj, home again and glad to be here. This year has been so busy so far my head is swimming. My friend's wedding was so beautiful. So was she. A special time with an old friend is a blessing.

Six days without a computer was a looooong time. Smile. I missed you and many of my blogging friends. Home is where MY heart is.

I love this post and your copy cat ideas. You are an expert at finding just the right things. I admire your awesome talent for this. In fact I like yours far better. I mean it!!! Those bottles are a great find. I have never even given them a thought. You can bet I will be on the lookout now. I LOVE your vignettes. AND...your strawberries. Mmmmmm. I have some that I am fixing tonight. Bill loves strawberries so I came home from my trip and bought them on the way. He is a happy man. We gotta keep our guys happy huh?

Love to you my sister friend,
Jeanne

Just goes to show we don't have to spend a fortune to make our homes look just as nice as those in magazines:-) I just love your demijohns and I remember my dad having a couple of the big ones when I was a little girl. I haven't seen any around since then! I can't wait for the yard sales to start around here, usually in May, so that I can go hunt for treasures as well:-) And there you go making me drool again with that cake!!!! xoxo

Bj this is an awesome post. GOes to show you, you have to shop around. I would never pay those prices. The demijohns I do see in antique places are around 60.00. I still have not bought one though yet!
