I have an addiction to .....

MAGAZINES....
I have them stuck ALL OVER THE HOUSE.
in all kinds of .....containers
A cousin made this WINE RACK for us out of metal horse shoes...(red neck ?)
and since I  already have one that holds all the wine we will ever want,
I rolled a few catalogs and magazines and.....
WALLA..a new mag. holder.
Baskets of every size, shape and color do their
work of holding a LOT of my addictions.
Nearly ALL my baskets are thrifts and I like THAT!
THIS one is even NAMED
"MAGAZINE"
good grief
HOME COMPANION was one of my VERY
favorites but it bit the dust, along with several
MORE of my favorites.
....a sign of the times, I guess.
I can't seem to turn loose of  any of my magazines...
and I have a really hard time, tearing out pages.
Sooo, I tend to keep the whole magazine for YEARS.
do I need intervention ?
;)
There is a little, awesome boutique not too far from my cottage
that I find the cutest things ever.
I bought this holder there and have really just loved it...
♫♪♫ GOODWILL ♪♪ basket ....
MR. SWEET made this amazing magazine rack and I
painted and shabbied it up a bit.
We liked it so much, he made one for daughter and daughter in love.
did you notice my olden NESBITT'S soda bottle ?...the one stuck out there in the very front. :)
Do they still make these bottles?
Bet you can find them, full of sweet goodness, at the nearest
CRACKER BARREL....
 This pretty pink lusciousness
is one of my favorite magazine holders.
PINK ROCKS !!
Pretty FRENCHY holder that I got
at that same little favorite boutique.....
God is great, God is good, let us thank HIM, for this food....
I do love Banana Pudding
but I take out the bananas....
I know...CRAZY.
Mr. Sweet LOVES the bananas so he gets mine, too.
Sooo,
do you have a lot of magazines, all over your cottage, too?
Well,
let's have a bowl of BANANA PUDDING
and talk about it.
♥♥♥

Oh mercy!! LOL! I do think you have a worse addiction than me and mine's pretty bad. (I say that in a sweet as sugar kinda way!) One good thing is you have tons of cute magazine holders. Wow!
Question for ya...do you really go back and read those magazines? I find that I don't very often and wonder why I have such a hard time parting with them.

Donna Oh...I have an old Brownie bottle. Do you know what that is?

Beeeeej,
I have magazines everywhere, too! I love them and have a hard time throwing them away, especially with the price we pay for them. Yours look lovely scattered around your home :)

Lovin' your clever storage ideas, especially the wine rack:@)
Well a couple months ago, I did have to have a serious talk with myself about the magazines... I kept my Martha's, and the Christmas editions of Country Living and BHG, but forced myself to remove any interesting recipes and toss the rest. Not really sure how I feel about it, but that's what I'm doing:@)

BJ,
I knew we were kindred spirits. . .but I didn't know just how much! I have all 30 something magazines of Cottage Living and it nearly broke my heart when they were discontinued. ME was another of my all time favorites. I hung her inspirational artwork in my Studio years ago and only recently took it down. I even have magazines stacked side-by-side in a vintage deep freezer basket. Too cute, but "Mr. Ed" thinks (at times) I need therapy! Years of House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Victoria, Tea Time, Romantic Homes. . .the list goes on, and on, and on. At some point and time, I'll have to part with them. . .but for now. . .I'm holding on! Who knows, with Nook and Kindle, people like us may be the only ones with actual paper reading materials! HA!
Fondly,
Pat
P.S. Banana Cream pie, huh?

I'm addicted to them too, but it looks like your sickness is worse than mine. I do thin mine out about every three months. That is a whole lot of mags.

Kathleen said...

I do love them, but dh doesn't. So I get rid of them after I have read them. I try to keep it to 2 subs a year. I really don't have time to read more than that! And I only subs when I get a great deal! I just did on some cooking mags.
I do save the Christmas editions.
Love the rack Mr. made for you!

Blondie's Journal said...

I have several subscriptions and then I buy all the usual. I keep it down by giving away the ones I've read after about 2 months. I wasn't always this good...I let them pile up until they were as tall as me. It took several trips to the garbage and I vowed I'd never do that again!

You have so many neat ways to store yours. I love the wine rack and the thing your hubby made. All of your holders are so pretty! If you have the room, why not?! :-)

XO,
Jane

I used to be that way- but I've had an intervention......My "Professional Organizer" gave me the what for - so now everytime I get a new magazine - I go through the old one, keep what I want out of it, and put them into notebooks. It's actually more fun to look through my "wish book", cause it has EVERYTHING I want, instead of just things here and there. The only ones I CAN'T part with is Romantic Homes. I keep them all - and look at them often. Yours are well loved, and that's all that matters. Have a great day! Sandi

Well yes, Bj, I do have a lot of magazines! The old Victoria issues can't be replaced so how could I get rid of them?! Same with my Home Companion, and some of my other favorites. Do we need an intervention? Maybe. Do I need some of that banana pudding? Definitely:>)

Debby said...

I used to have them all over the place. When we listed our home I got rid of so many. I had COuntry Living magazines from 20 years ago......I kept some of my Home companion ones andwish I would have kept them all. Somany of the ones I liked went out of print. That has helped the clutter. I actually think I like reading blogs better now.

bj I think you win the Magazine Addiction Award! I have a few but try to move them out as I have no place to store them. Now my books....don't ask! hugs, Linda

Girlfriend I have been looking for a 12 step program for Magazine Addiction. LOL! Out of all the mags that have gone by the wayside I miss ME's the most. I am so happy that Victoria came back. Maybe ME will be back too!

I am going to do a post (hopefully soon) on my latest magazine storage. Hint: I got it from Michael's. This past weekend the sun was non-existent from all of our rain and I couldn't get some good pics.
Hugs

Oh me too! I just love magazines! If only I really had time to read them all!

Molly said...

Be still my heart, a kindred spirit! Yes, you do have too many but so do I and nobody can make us get rid of them till we are ready. The neat thing about such a huge collection is you can randomly grab out some oldies, curl up with an afhan, tea, a kittie and while away some time dreaming and enjoying it as much as when it was new.

jeanne said...

Yes bj, I have way to many magazines and I HATE to get rid of one of them.
However, I do let go sooner or later. I can tell you I do not have the awesome magazine holders like you shared. My fave is the wine holder/magazine holder. Clever you but that comes so natural to you. You are what I call an IDEA person. That is why I love visiting you.

Happy reading. When do you find time to read them? That is my problem. Smile.
Love you bunches, Jeanne

Whooooop-sies, you do have a lot of magazines! :-)

Nope, only magazines I keep are my old 'Victoria' mags and the new 'Victoria' too. It's the only magazine I subscribe to even. And I no longer pick up magazines, when in a store.

Golly gee! I guess I have come-a-long-way-Baby, on some of my simplifying. At least in this matter. Now all the REST of the stuff we have around here, wellllll, that's a work-in-progress I guess. But, there is hope! After all. :-)

Love it that we can all love pretty things, and still be different! :-)

♥ Gentle hugs ♥

Yes, I have a lot, but you win. By a mile. Nay, two miles. Wonderful way of corraling them all. Wish that I had something a bit more with it like that.

I'm going to have to let my husband know that I'm not the only addict. I have finally gotten so much better about letting them go. I keep all the Paula Deen mags for the recipes and most of the Phyllis Hoffman special ones...that is it. Every couple of months I sit down with a huge pile and go through and tear things out and pitch them. They were taking over my house!

Kristy Carberry said...

Wow, I thought I had a magazine addiction! I do clean mine out about 3-4 times per year, but I've been known to have 10+ mags in a month, so they pile up quickly! Lots of cute containers though!

And enjoy them in the car, in the kitchen, in the bathroom....teehee....anytime I sit down I want my friend the magazine there with me! Loved all your creative ideas for storing them!

I am enjoying your creative ideas for storing magazines. I have too many also. I need to take another look around my place and see if I can repurpose things into magazine holders.

The only magazines I keep are the old ones of Mary Englebriet's Home Companion. I was so sad when they went out of business. I also keep Mary Jane's Farm!! Otherwise my addiction would push us out of the house!! LOL!!

Penny from Enjoying The Simple Things said...

Yes, I do! I even have some very olden Victoria's, that I bought on ebay, because I never saved them when the old version of Victoria was still around.

Love all of your magazine storage pieces!

I think magazine collecting is a girl thing...at least my hubby doesn't understand it. He thinks that when I buy a new one I should throw an old one away. Silly guy!! I read my mags 3 or 4 times and then cut out the articles I really want. I always carry them in the car to pass time when we are traveling. I really miss my ME ones and wish I had hung onto them. Blogs are okay but I need the visual in front of me. You have some very creative ways of displaying yours. ENJOY!!

Thank you so much for commenting on my bean burger post. They are SO delicious! Wow, I think I need to come to your house to read magazine, I am jealous!! I am your latest follower too! :)

BJ,
What wonderful ways to display magazines! I used to have Country Home issues that dated back to 1988but lost them when our last home flooded - we lived on a creek.
So...I don't collect them anymore. I just throw them out every week. *horrified gasp*

Yikes! I have the same addiction!! But I love love love all your magazine holders!

Hi BJness! Oh, my goodness, I believe you have more mags than I do. You certainly have wonderful places to put them! :) Love all your racks. That doesn't quite sound right, does it? :)
Yummmy! I love banana pudding and I eat the bananas! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Oh BJ - you have no idea how relieved I am to know that I'm not the only one! And we even love the same magazines! I love your blog and always look forward to what you'll share and I especially like all the unique ways you display your magazines. I think you've been to my house before!!

I love magazines...but I love banana pudding more! I have finally (I think) broken my addiction to magazines. I just can't seem to find time to read most of them so I've dropped several subscriptions. Also, some have gotten so expensive!!! I picked up one at WalMart recently and it was $9.95!!! Yikes!

Ceekay-THINKIN of HOME said...

This is just too funny. I just cleaned out all the places I have magazines. I don't keep all of them. I can't tear them up. And I really shouldn't save anymore, it is taking up real estate....but, well, I continue.
Oh, and I would love a big ole scoop of banana pudding with the bananas please....looks wonderful!

Rettabug said...

Oh my, BJ...looks like you really opened up Pandora's box with this post! Lots of us seem to have the same addiction. LOL

I know gals who have every single issue of Sew Beautiful & Australian Smocking & Embroidery!! Those collections are worth a LOT of money, too. I have every issue from my years of subscribing. I need to find some cute containers to corral them, like you have.

I've heard of folks using the postal service's flat rate boxes to make holders, as they're sturdy & free. (shhh...don't tell anyone that you're only supposed to use them for mail. LOL

Love all the different ways you store yours!
