MY "FUNKY JUNK" MANTEL or "I MUST BE NUTS"

I will link up with MISS MUSTARD SEED  for her
COPY ME CHALLENGE,
my post on it HERE.

and NOW...
HERE I AM...
right smack dab in the middle of another
with another
AWESOME DESIGNER AND DECORATOR...
My sweet friend,
DONNA of FUNKY JUNK INTERIORS.
Go over to her adorable blog and read all about
BOTH of these ladies have been published in the finest magazines...
How the heck can I even THINK I can copy them in any way....!!??!!
Well,
I just go for it 'cause it's been a LOT OF FUN.
I know I can't come close to either of their unique styles...
but...
I WANNA PLAY. :))
One of the things you will nearly always find in DONNA'S style is....
rust...
The lady is crazy for rust.
and
industrial...
olden tools..
chains...
old wood of any kind...
...and then she puts them together in the most
wonderful cuteness...
The above is a recent CENTERPIECE she made for her dining table...
awesome, hu!!
Most of the time, THIS is the way my mantel looks...
boring....
BOR.....ING!!
I need to FUNK IT UP...
much MUCH more fun that way....
*
It's been too snowy, icy and COLD to get out
to look for JUNK..
so I just used what I had here at Sweet Nothings..
The very FIRST thing I needed....
rust...
Oh...I had rust !
I won this old metal sign off EBAY several years ago.($4.00..and the ONLY bidder)
OMGosh..when I got it, it had SO much rust, I didn't know what to do with it...
sooo,
under the bed it went for a couple of years...
until FUNKY came into my life.
an old "something" used to float concrete, I think...
an olden, RUSTY chain I added to my vintage Ball jar.
Now, I'm pretty much LOVIN' this look...
WHY would a OLD woman like an OLD chain in an OLD jar ?
Oh, yeah...this is a TROWEL....with a cute wooden handle...covered with concrete specks..
*heavy sigh
OK...NOT lookin' good here...
keep workin' it....
Who knew that it was so hard to arrange FUNKY JUNK?
whew...this is HARD work...we need a coffee and cinnamon roll BREAK.
a few candles in a piece of old, RUSTED pipe...
a few olden wooden clothes pins in another green jar.
I got most of my funky junk out of MR. SWEET'S workshop..
I am totally in love with this little tiny children's shoe form...
the heel is broken off but...
I don't care.

an olden, RUSTED spur that Mr. Sweet dug up years and years ago....

I've used lots of different things here today that I would have NEVER
dreamed I would like in my decorating.
But....I DO...
I DO like a lot of it...
a little rust is interesting to me...
a LOT of rust is....well.....A LOT.
Very old love letters
that belonged to a great aunt...
RED for
HAPPY VALENTINES
ok...I've decided I like a little mixture of things...
I think that's what makes a grouping look really cool.
Textures, colors, scale...
It's been fun trying to copy two styles...
A blending of MISS MUSTARD'S STYLE...
and
FUNKY JUNK INTERIORS STYLE...
I think I'll call this one
SWEET NOTHINGS STYLE...
:)
♥♥♥
I HOPE ALL OF YOU WILL VISIT
BOTH of these adorable blogs
and see all the
COPYNESS OF STYLE
going on.....
and just MAYBE
YOU will want to play around with some
FUNKY JUNK, too...

yes it is so much fun, love the white rusty sign!!!
I totally ransacked my house for these posts! Great challenge, I did not have cinnamon rolls for a break though, so jealous.

You may have seen my spring wreath and I don't mean the season of spring, which I copied from Robojunker. It is a look, it looks better in someone else's house for the most part. I tried. I failed. Now you, you did a great job!

My husband would have what y'all call a hissy fit it I started displaying his workbench stuff on the mantle. He doesn't get it (: Mr. Sweet really is! BTW - love the eBay sign. xo

Good job I'd say! Love the metal sign and the creative way you combined it with some great junque! I love rust but have trouble figuring how to use it and make it "classy", not just junk. You got the gift, girl!

Linda (More Fun Less Laundry) said...

bj, this game looks like fun, but your stuff should be called "junque" because it is wonderful! And the rust is simply "patina!" You did a great job in the copy cat challenge. I'm sure those cinnamon buns smelled awfully yummy! Linda

I went to visit the two different blogs...but I don't do all that well with regular meme's. If I tried such a thing it would come across as a buncha junk. I think you did well..but I kept wanting you to back up with the camera so I could get the whole effect.
You DID come up with some REALLY great stuff...very very, what I call the Primitive look.
Looked like a lot of fun to me. I can just see you now out there in Mr. Sweet's shop scrounging around. Do we have fun..or do we have FUN! :)
I thought it all looked cute. But...can I get a distance photo of it...Please? That lovely mantel with all that wonderful old stuff...from what I could see it looked soooo cute! NOT boring. I LOVE detail and I can always count on you for it! :)
Hugs and love,
Mona

Wow! I think you did a great job! I like your rusty sign and that spur too! Your very good at copy catting. LOL! If I put the Mr.s rusty old stuff from the workshop on my mantle, I'd never hear the end of it. Meaning...He would forever more expect me to put his old junk on our mantle! LOL! Not going to happen. :))

Oh my goodness it looks amazing! It totally has Donna's touch all over it. But it doesn't loose your influence either. Perfect!!

I know lots of people really get into the rust thing, but it's just not my style. Everything here looks great though. I especially love the touch with the old letters.

By jove!, I think you've GO TIT, BJ! Looks wonderful .. & I'd not have EVER thought to use the old rusty vintage pieces ... Beautifully done, BJ.

I bought the yeast & will be making cinnamon rolls from scratch, merely to smell the fantastic aroma ... you so inspire me.

Have a beautiful PS weekend ~
