Getting it all ready......

♥May you have the gladness of CHRISTMAS which is HOPE....
The spirit of CHRISTMAS which is PEACE....
The heart of CHRISTMAS which is LOVE.♥
ADA V. HENDRICKS

HOUSE IN THE ROSES
is having a wonderful
SHOW US YOUR CHRISTMAS KITCHEN/DINING ROOM
 *
 Altho I haven't done any decorating in the kitchen,
I am banking on my RED cabinets to allow me to play in CIELO'S party...;)
*
As most of my friends here know, my upper cabinets are WHITE
with the lowers being RED...
The doors on the uppers are just thick plywood doors...
when I painted them white, they still looked so .....flat.
New doors were NOT in the budget so one day, MR. SWEET said,
"I know you like the beadboard look...
how 'bout I just use my router on those doors and make them have a  little more personality?"

(see, he has lived with me too long...:)...not too many MEN refer to cabinet doors as having personality....)

I said.".O HONEY....go for it" and he did...
and I just love them flat to pieces...just LOVE them!!
I am using the SAME, ORIGINAL to this 1957 house, hardware...just painted them black..

WHO, in their right mind, would put THESE words on their kitchen wall....?

I DO have my Ole Saint Nick, the Chef,
standing by to bake us lots of goodies to eat on
CHRISTMAS EVE NIGHT..
Candles snuggled down into fresh coffee beans...ummm...how wonderful the scent.
...and ALWAYS the
COOKIES FOR SANTA
plate, standing close by....

I think this mantel in the dining room  is from 2008
This is the mantel in 2009
and I just don't have 2010 up and going yet...:(
*
I'm going out after fresh greens on Monday to use on the mantel....
and will save photos for the
CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE
on 9th at COASTAL CHARM...
Be SURE to stop over and see all the CHRISTMAS beauty floating around and through BLOGLAND...
♪♪♫♪...in the lane......snow is glistening.....♫♫♪.
Each little CHRISTMAS plate has a different, whimsical scene....
"the sights...the sounds...the smells...the love of CHRISTMAS..
~~~ESPECIALLY when there's a lot of RED.....!!
....do you suppose there is ANYone, ANYwhere, that doesn't LOVE the color RED...??
 ...a CHRISTMAS CANDY CANE dining room..
I, loving red so much, and having quite a bit of it in dishes and etc..
decided last year  to go with a RED and WHITE theme in my dining room
and on my CHRISTMAS table...
I am doing the same color scheme again this year...
why not, since I LOVE it !
Not having fresh pine greens to use, I just cut a few cedar greens and, they have worked out just great...I do like the looks of them ALMOST as much as the pine....but they surely don't smell as wonderful as fresh cut pine boughs......
*note...."bj, pick up some of that wonderful PINE air freshener or, even better, a few of the wonderful PINE sented candles next trip to town....
CANDY CANE cookies always look festive...
Why didn't I drizzle a little white icing on, too ?
They are in the freezer, waiting for CHRISTMAS EVE..so..I still have time to spruce them up a little..a drizzle of white chocolate with CHRISTMAS sparkly sugar dust...
O !.....the grands will love 'em....
***
These little wintertime goblets, with snow scenes on them are just perfect
for our CHRISTMAS table...
These came from somewhere like McDonald's or Burger King, several years ago.
Very cheap. inexpensive and I have really and truly enjoyed using them...
*
O, yes...I do love me a RED AND WHITE CHRISTMAS...
See those silly little girls in that photo...
They were about 5 years old there...they are all 13 now...
Just the perfect age !
Funny how ANY age kids are...
it's PERFECT !
MERRIEST CHRISTMAS, EVER !!
BJ,
Your kitchen is beautiful!!!
I am so impressed with Mr. Sweet for his idea to add personality to the flat cabinets. They look terrific! He and my Mister might come up with some amazing ideas if they put their heads together, after all, Mister did paint our worn wood kitchen floor in black and white blocks, and it looks terrific and helped our budget immensely!
Darling! I stopped my hubby as he walked by. He really liked the "EAT CAKE" message, but would change it here to "EAT STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE." What a nut! I like all the accessories you have. I have the same hardware and have never seen the need to change it. The white up and red down is inspired.
That is a beautiful kitchen! We don't have a huge number of Christmas decorations (primatily ruby Pfaltzgraff place settings) but we look all about and any holiday ruby decor pieces and find them here and there - especially any Santa ornaments. Sweet!
I've been to your blog before and let me just say one thing, "THAT CAN'T BE A PHOTO OF YOU AT AGE 72!" Notice that I'm shouting that. Or rather, crying aloud. I'm 10 years your junior and I don't look as good.
OK. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I must say that I like your decorating skills. Fancy, but down to earth at the same time. I will be back often to check your latest creations.
