Aren't these little fellas cute, just hanging around outside.
I fell in love with the little characters.
I just wish it said,
MERRY CHRISTMAS.....
It was in the low 70's this fine morning in the CHRISTMAS season
and my holly and it's pretty RED berries is just thriving.
More berries this year than last.
I've given them more water this year...
that may be why we have so many berries.
We HAD to rake leaves so our yard would
look nice for all the kids and grandkids coming on
Christmas Eve...
We were sooo thankful for the pretty day in which to do this chore...
...remembered to give the birds a nice cool drink....
When we finished, we decided to sit awhile on the
front porch swing and catch our breaths.
I went inside and made us some snack trays to enjoy
in the beautiful outside.
This one is for MR. SWEET.
He likes fresh, sliced bananas on his
banana nut bread.
I love the FLAVOR of bananas but....
not the texture.
While we enjoyed the resting....,
I started thinking about that
huge antler of Mr. Sweets.
So many bloggers are using the antlers to decorate with but I am having a hard time DECORATING with them.
Maybe because they have been in my life for 50 years...and I've never thought, for even one minute, that there was ANYthing pretty about them.
Mr. Sweet has always been a hunter.
Our shed out back has tons of them lying around.
But, THIS one is the biggest of all.
I am sure I can never use them in my decorating but
for fun, I did one little 'scape.
NOPE....
I'm pretty sure this LONG horn won't be used for ANYthing except knife handles for
Mr. Sweet's handmade knives...
Not EVERY popular thing at the moment is for EVERYONE..
and this one just isn't for me. :)
This is only ONE side of the animal's antlers...
Boy, he must have
BEEN A BIG ONE.
I think it was on an ELK instead of a DEER.
♥♥♥
I am holding my breath for my
amaryllis
to bloom in time for
Christmas Day.

WHITE WEDNESDAY (now that antler is OFF white, ya'll)
Thanks to all the lovely hosts..
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
BJ, you could sell those antlers! Those are big. Probably was an elk like you said. I have never seen anyone eat sliced bananas on their banana bread. To each their own. Cute Christmas sign. You could paint over it and make it say Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYou are raking and we are shoveling. Looks yummy and fun to eat outside right now.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your holidays and Merry Christmas.
It looks like you are ready for Christmas. Everything looks so festive! I'm sending merry wishes your way and hope you have a happy and healthy New Year.
ReplyDelete70 degrees! Why I can't even imagine that in December! It's 28 here right now, brrrrr. I think antlers look better with rustic decor, and your decor is just too pretty for those old horns!:>) Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family BJ. Many blessings in the coming year!
ReplyDeleteYou're making me so hungry with that yummy banana bread! And thanks for the idea to put bananas on top, I never thought of that. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your porch fellas, so darling! And I'm so envious of your Amaryllis, I forgot to plant mine, so they won't be blooming anytime soon. WAH! Putting that on tomorrow's list. :)
Happy Rednesday and Merry Christmas,
Sally
Love everything about your cherry red post! I really love the black and white pillows and using a smuckers jar as a vase is genious!
ReplyDeleteBlessings~

Hi Friend! I'm in Texas enjoying a nice warm few days with you. We are at my dad's house in Lockhart. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the antlers, Paul has them too...I just kind of don't get it. I've tried but to me they are dead animal parts. Oh well, if I see them in enough pretty vignettes I might change my mind.
Merry Christmas to you and your sweet family.
You are funny about the antler! I am not so keen on them either. The bread looks ever so yummy. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeletebj I am not an antler girl either. Just not my thing. I'm hoping your amaryllis blooms also.
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful! It is 70 there and we are getting ready for more snow on Christmas eve :) Fine with me, as we don't have to travel. Let it snow!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Won't your grands enjoy seeing the antlerscape? It is really pretty cute. (I said that in a whisper so as not to offend.) ;>
ReplyDeletethe banana and the bread makes me drool this early morning here:)
ReplyDeletemerry christams.
awesome decors you have there.
Merry Christmas! You are really into the season and I love it! Especially love your bird bath ;-)
ReplyDeleteWatery Wednesday
LUV the picture of you and Santa. SO CUTE! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteThose antlers are a prize!!! I love what you did with them.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to answer your question.
I think the cooking bag idea for your roast sounds fabulous! I usually cook a rump roast in the slow cooker, because it CAN be a little tough if you don't cook it long enough.
Have you thought about cutting it in half and cooking each half in the slow cooker. One tomorrow and one on Thursday? Slice it and put it in the frig. Make a lovely gravy and just heat it up for dinner on Christmas Eve. I am making a Holiday Beef Brisket, I bet you could use that recipe for your roast too.
Let me know what you decide and how it turns out!

Everything seems to be in order for Santa's arrival. I love the picture of you and Santa. I am sure you told him you had been a good girl. I racked some leaves today, but the others will mow and mulch. Just too big a job.
ReplyDeleteBJ I love your post! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas :-)

Your outdoor decoration are so sweet and so is the little try you made up. I agree with you on the texture of bananas. The raspberry jam looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI am not big on the antlers either. I am not a hunting fan. Your decor is far too pretty anyway!!
XO,
Jane
So inviting...I love to sit on the porch too. Funny...I don't like banana bread but love bananas...lol

I been trying for the cannisters on Ebay but someone else always outbids my budget..lol... Oh and your table setting is glorious. Amen to the black , white and red Women.... mishelle
ReplyDeleteBJ,
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by...it was a lovely visit. I for one decided to vist and stay :)
I actually love the antler the way you have arranged it on the table; it's subtle and makes a nice back drop for the sprigs...
My dad who is deceased now is from Orville, Ohio and the Smuckers jelly jar made a memory for me...never thought to use a jelly jar like that but it adds such a nice touch!
Blessings to you this day!
BJ....terrific post!!! You never cease to amaze us visitors with such wonderful photos and writing. OH.....and I must say, on your sidebar, I LOVE your Santa photo!!
ReplyDeleteMy link to my watery wednesday. Do stop by if you can....
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Great weather for leaf raking and sitting in the porch swing eating banana bread! I am not a fan of bananas but love banana bread:) I love banana pudding but don't eat the bananas... crazy, yep! Not an antler fan:) but you can make anything look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful day my friend! HUGS!
BJ,
ReplyDeleteThe deer antlers HAVE to grow on you. . .believe me! I didn't think I could have them in my home decor either. Then when I saw how Yvonne used them @ Stone Gable . . .Pat @ Back Porch musings.. . I knew I had to give it a try @ On Crooked Creek! Give yourself time. Who'd have thought we'd all have had avocado or harvest gold appliances, either! HA! Thanks for trying these ideas at home, dear.
One more time. . .Merry Christmas, dear!
Fondly,
Pat
The little fellas hanging on the sign made me laugh! So cute. I loved seeing all around your home. My sweetheart is a hunter and I thought of using antlers in my decorating this year but didn't do it. I think I'll save that style until someday when (if) we ever have a rustic cabin!!!
ReplyDelete~Adrienne~
Bananas on banana bread... Yum!!
ReplyDeleteI love that shot of your porch swing, with your snack waiting for you! I miss being able to sit on my porch swing in the morning, with my cup of coffee. I won't be doing that again until April or May!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy REDnesday!
Carol
Merry "Christ"mas BJ ~
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely porch setting to enjoy ... I only wish our weather were as inviting, it is a whopping 30 this AM.
Your decorations are wonderful.
Blessings & joys ~

-clapping hands- The blog look is still here!!!!!! :-) Awwwwwwwww, thank you, Sweetie!!!
ReplyDeleteGentle Christmas hugs...
Good mornin', sweet BJ! I wanted to come by and see what you've been up to this holiday season. You've decorated so beautifully for Christmas! I love the holly in the smucker's jar. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd I had to chuckle when I read that it was in the 70s down your way. It's in the teens and twenties here in the early morning hours. We've already had two light snowfalls! But that's OK with me — makes it feel more like Christmas.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish you, Mr. Sweet and the whole Sweet clan a very blessed and Merry Christmas!
Hugs,
Liz @ the Brambleberry Cottage

Hi bj,
ReplyDeletePerhaps you have seen mine. I have two sets in my family room..one over the fireplace and one decorating the family room where it changes from dining to living area.
I had a choice when I married Frank, nearly ten years ago...let them stay stacked in the garage..or pay homage to the beautiful animal that was sacrificed. I chose to pay homage.
My husband was a hunter..for the meat..my family have been hunters for as long as I can remember..that was just our lifestyle.
I totally understand those who don't like them..but I find them beautiful..and to throw them in the dump, I just could not do.
So..they grace my walls.
It's all in how you look at it.
Of course mine are complete..not just one. They remind me of Frank and who he was...perhaps that is why I will always cherish them.
I loved the way you sat your's out..SO Texas! :) The badge. :)
Made me smile.
Animals have fed us and kept us warm for centuries...and for a long time I probably wouldn't have used them either..but..I've changed..and treasure them now.
Of course I love everything you do, as always.
Raining here and we are in a state of emergency in Riverside (where I live) and S.B County...
The ten ft. deep drainage ditch is nearly full. Only about a ft. to go.
Sending you hugs and a Merry Christmas! Save me a piece of that banana bread, and I am still in my Jammies and slips but I'll be over in a bit. ok?
Mona
70 degrees sounds wonderful! It's raining so hard here. In fact, they keep closing the roads so I cannot get out! I may have to go bake some banana bread now since I'm going to be parked a while :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dena
What a wonderful post...I am going to have to try eating bananas on my banana bread...sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post and pictures dear!
ReplyDeleteI wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Kisses, Zondra Art
I'm with you BJ, I see some accents that include antlers and it looks wonderful, but it's not for me. You have really pretty Holly and it looks soooooo warm there. It's icy and cold here. Haven't even been able to put my decor out on the porch..it's been sooo cold.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll talk to ya next year ;)
Merry Christmas!
