A while back, I showed you how I liked to use GRANDS canned biscuits *gulp
by stuffing them full of PURE GOODNESS..

ham
sausage
cheese
anything you like...

just a biscuit...CANNED, at that....

and I am MORTIFIED that I don't remember WHO...
said to try adding sweetened fruit to the large biscuits and
fry or bake...(can't remember which she said to do.. sooo.....I did both !)
These are FRIED....and they are so good, it MUST be sinful !
Knowing Mr. Sweet and myself didn't need to be eating
TOO many fried ones, I was a good girl and fried only 3..
1 for him and 2 for me...:))

Now, I don't care for canned PIE FILLING...
just not to my taste at all.
I used the tart cherries.
I boiled the juice from the can of cherries
with cornstarch and lots of sugar..(remember...these cherries are TART)
I cooked and stirred until the mixture became thick..
then, removing from heat, add the cherries and a spoonful of ALMOND flavoring.
OH HONEY....let's take another look at it !
We've eaten every single one and now I've gone and made my silly self hungry for one.
The rest of these delicious treats went into the oven...
(We DO like them fried better.... )BUMMER !
for about 15 minutes or until they were nice and brown..
Just to think that these started out as a BISCUIT makes my heart sing...
I love it !
Before sticking them in the oven, I put a pat of butter, a sprinkle of sugar and dusted with cinnamon.

to a lowly CANNED biscuit...

OH YES...Ya'll are gonna want to give these a try..
just roll those big biscuits out in a flat round circle...
add the cooked fruit and bake or fry...
and...
if you are lucky enough to have some of those
SWEETENED AND SEASONED CHERRIES left..
serve them right along beside the little pies that are just oozing deliciousness ..
I'm thinking how good these will be on CHRISTMAS morning...
Yep...you can cook your cherries the night before...have them all ready
to go into your biscuits and before ya know it,
you can have a CHRISTMAS platter heaped high with wonderfulness...
Do you suppose there is ANYone on earth that doesn't like CHERRIES ??

Now BJ, I would have had to arm wrestle you for the angel, she is so stinkin cute. I love her little candy cane stripes, and for less than a $1.00? We can't find much of anything for less than a buck these days. She is precious. Thank you for sharing her beauty, as she makes the pies look that much sweeter.

ReplyDeleteWe use the canned GRANDS biscuits as the topping of an ersatz pot pie, without the crusty bottoms of a true pie. Pillsbury does allow for the tops of a fine pie of sorts...
ReplyDeleteWhat is there to say about this fried concoction?? A stout mug of coffee and a couple of these may not be ideal in the sense of dietary health, but such a treat makes a fine start to a fine day!

ReplyDeleteGosh they look so good .. like pocket pies without any of the work of making the dough. I do like Grands and buy a few cans every holiday to serve as biscuits. They may be used this way instead :)

I have been frying donuts made from can biscuits for years. All the children love them.

I am going to send this to my little niece. She has won the cooking contest at her school for two years now. This would be a good idea for her. They are elementary school age and the recipes have to be easy and kid-licious.

ReplyDeleteFor years, my mother made the best fried apple pies. Then she discovered Grands and they appeared even more often on our table. One problem was that mother could not bring herself to open those cans. She did not like the surprise of the "pop". So, she'd get us to open them for her. After a while, we started charging a dime for our services. She happily paid us!!
