DISAPPOINTMENTS.....

From small ones to the really big ones, I think we all handle it differently.Summer fun...learning to wakeboard...
Almost into the lake to spend a day of wakeboarding...unloading the boat off the trailer and things are "lookin' good"...
Grandgirl all excited and hopefull and just full of "I can't wait"....
She has a brand new wakeboard...and in about 5 MORE MINUTES, she can be on IT...
It was going to be a day with just us "girls", on the lake, having fun...
She's going to be 13 next month..!
*
A phone call from town made us pull the boat back out and head for home, an hour away...
She was just crushed....so dissapointed that we were going to have to wait
for another time...
*
Promises from her mom to go back to the lake "as soon as we can" didn't really make her feel all that much better...
At almost 13, we all live "for the moment" and to get hyped up for something really exciting...something we really want to do....we're crushed when we can't do it. ....
..RIGHT NOW...

Worrying about her brother that had to go to the emergency room at a hospital in town didn't dull the sting of dissapointment.
Of course not....she's only 12....

Learning to deal with dissapointment can be a pretty hard lesson....
Even as we get older, it can bring on all kinds of emotions...learning to deal with those emotions eventually make us who we are today....

Growing up and having small dissapointments in life
help us to handle the BIGGER ones that we ALL face..throughout our entire life.
Us grown-ups want to take away all the dissapointments in life for our children and grandchildren....we never want them to hurt....and yet...we DO want them to become strong so that, later on down life's road, thing will be easier for them....we want them to be able to accept, without real destruction, things that might happen ...or not happen...that doesn't fit into their plans of life.
Things that are considered HUGE dissapointments...
*.
We've all had our fair share of THOSE.....I've had some that made me cry for days but they surely didn't distroy my faith. THIS is what we want for our young ones.
The biggest dissapointment and hurt in my life makes me sad...and cry a lot...and worry much more than I should...but my faith in God is stronger for it.
This is why it's so important to help a child handle their dissapointments...it is something that will help them so much on "down the road."
I am so proud of how my children have taught THEIR children that it is OK to be dissapointed when things don't go as planned.
It's a perfectly natural and normal reaction to things that go astray from your plans...
*
...it's HOW we learn to handle these things thatmake us who we are as a grown person...
there is NO doubts in my mind that she will be able to handle the BIGGER dissapointments in life...and I'm very proud of her.

I AM SO PROUD OF ALL MY FAMILY AND ALL THE OTHER BLESSINGS I RECEIVE EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE.
YOU are a huge blessing in my life...

Hi BJ,
What a wonderful post. I'm glad your Grandson was ok but it's always such a scare when someone is rushed to emergency. I'm also glad your Grand daughter got to head back out onto the lake. Chalk it up to one more life lesson that will help her when she get's older and has to face more serious disappointments. Very wise words indeed! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.

What a great post. I'm so sorry she was disappointed but you're right that it's important to guide children through these things that prepare them for life.

And yes, during winter water in any form will do! I love to see where the imagination leads. :-)

This is so true. I know that my kids have really appreciated the things that did go well or the way they wanted them to...because there were a few disappointments along the way.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Great post B.J. and so true! I hope you're having a good fall (or is it still summer?). I think you came by once, and I don't remember if I answered you or not, but all is well w/ us. Just staying busy chasing a 1 yr old that goes behind me to un-do everything I do! LOL! ;O)

You know we don't often think that God has a plan for those little disappointments if only to grow our faith to handle the big ones. Beautiful post sweet lady. hugs, Patty

Wonderful photos, BJ! I hope your grandson is OK. I guess we all need to learn how to handle disappointments.

I could not agree with this wonderful post any more than I do!! It was all I could do not to shelter my girls from disappointments and make the crooked places straight before them, but I did resist (with the help of a very wise husband).

I just didn't and don't want them to grow up in a bubble and then have to *learn it* on some big kahuna disappointment.

Love your pictures, btw, as well has your excellent advice!

What a great post BJ! I'm so glad all is well with the brother and she got to go back to the lake. I am dissappointed though that I am not at your house having one of those fabulous looking waffles that seemed to have been in every photo, lol! I'm sure I will come thru though....someday!

What a wonderful post BJ! I wish every day that I could take all the hurts and disappointments away from my children. It just kills me to see them hurting. But you are so right - it makes us stronger. I'm going to share this with my mother. She will really appreciate it like I did.

Kim

Good morning bj, I have been MIA because we are out of town visiting our son. I am sorry I missed some of your posts. We will be home again late Thurs. night.

Your post is soooo true. If one can handle disappointments in life your life will be much happier. A good lesson in life. I hope your grandson is alright.

I want to go to an apple orchard. We do have them in NC. I LOVE apples. Except 'Delicious' apples. I am partial to apples with a bit of tartness. Love your photos and the pie is to die for...Mmmmmm.

Have a happy day my sister friend.
Love, Jeanne

WISDOM! That they let children own their disappointment. Not make them totally swallow their natural feelings of disappointment.

I know, children can't be allowed to whine for ever. But at least, don't make them feel they are "bad" for having the feeling of disappointment. It's human.

Hope the ER boy is all fine.

And yes, little disappointments build the way, to handling big ones. We can't protect them totally. Nor would it be good to do so. No learning would happen, if they were totally protected.

Gentle hugs...

As they say...all's well that ends well...and I'm so glad that your grandson is fine and your granddaughter got over her disappointment. Your post was filled with such wisdom. We all have to learn some valuable lessons from the world of hard knocks!

One of the very good things about "disappointment" is the older you get the better you can handle such a thing. And it comes to us in many, many forms..disappointment. Some things can be fixed, like the return trip to the lake for a day of fun, other things cannot be fixed. But no matter what..getting old relieves us to some degree of that sharp edge of hurt when those times happen in our lives.
You taught your children well, and they are teaching theirs. Life is good, isn't it bj?
Now...can I have a waffle?? Hmmmm?

B.J. I can relate to this post both as a (former) child and a mother!! I'm glad the emergency turned out o.k. and the sweet girl got back to the lake.

Delicious photos!!

You are so right BJ. We all must learn to handle disappointment in its many forms. It's one of the things that makes us grow as human beings! It's hard to see our loved ones go through it, but perseverence is an imprtant thing to learn!
