H.E.L.P.......

PEACH DUMPLINGS...
O MY!
*
THIS beautiful creation was done by my friend, YVONNE, that lives
It looks sooo good, I ran to the store and bought some fresh PEACHES...
She has the recipe on her sidebar...
*
*
MAY I just say...
right up front...
I AM NO GOURMET COOK !!
**
I had flour all OVER my red kitchen...
and ALL OVER ME, I might add...
*
I wrestled that PUFF PASTRY til it finally threw me to the floor, choking the life outa me...
*
It wanted to STICK to every single thing within 15 feet..including ME.
*
Mr. Sweet came through the kitchen at one point and said,
"WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING WITH THOSE PEACHES?"
I just stuck my tongue out at him and kept wrestling....
*
I FINALLY got the stuff wrapped around those 4 big peaches but,
believe me...it was NO EASY TASK...
*
and SHE makes it look SOOO EASY...
*
I finally got the 4 of them into the oven...
and they looked FAIRLY good...
NOTHING even to be used in the same sentence with YVONNE'S...
but still....
*
AND THEN, MY OVEN TIMER WENT OFF.....!!!
These babies took on a WHOLE NEW ATTITUDE
inside that oven...
I'll swear I even heard 'em GROWL...
*
THEY GREW.....THEY WARPED....THEY MORPHED....
THEY TOTALLY CHANGED SHAPES AND BECAME MONSTERS...
PEACH DUMPLING MONSTERS.!!
and, believe me, they were NOT a pretty site..
HELP
YVONNE.....WHERE ARE YOU?
THUNDER ROLLED and LIGHTENING FLASHED....

I said, "RUN !...........RUN FOR YOUR LIFE"!
"WHY...is the house on fire?"
"NO....this THANG'S alive."
*

Well, at least I got a PICTURE of 'em...
now, if GOLLUM ever has those
TRAINWRECKS IN THE KITCHEN AGAIN...

I have my photo all ready!!
*
The whole experience just about drained the color right out of my body !
*

The handmade LEAVES...they were sooo pretty before they went into the oven...then, they just seemed to shrivel right down to nothing...
I swear, they were TWICE that size before going into my
DOCTOR JEKYLL and MR. HYDE oven...
*

I have to be honest and say the
WHOLE BACK SIDE OF THIS ONE
just BLEW OUT...
Sugar
brown sugar
butter
cinnamon
a smidge of nutmeg...
hit the ceiling and then just slowly RAN DOWN THE WALL....
**
The oil leak in the Gulf didn't have a thing on my WHATCHAMYCALLIT.....
*

ahhh....but being the SWEET man MR. SWEET is...

he just added some ICE CREAM and drizzled some of that GOOD STUFF that erupted and said, "Now, THIS is GOOD!"
*
No wonder I've been married to him for over 50 years..!! :))
NOOO, I'm no gourmet cook like my friend, YVONNE..
"From now on, honeychile, I'll leave the PRETTY cookin' to YOU!!"
"YOU do such a beautiful job of doing PRETTY !"
*
Thanks for the delicious recipe tho....we DID enjoy it very much...
after I one time started BREATHING again !!
**
I'm playing in FOODIE FRIDAY...

Love your humor! You pleased Mr. Sweet, and you made me laugh. What more could you want (if you cannot be a gourmet cook like Yvonne?)!!!
Hugs and giggles, Beth

You crack me up! I LOVE a girl with a sense of humor and you definitely have one, girl. I would sit down with your "floured self" any day of the week and eat that peach dessert! Well, you know I would want that coffee pot going, too!

LOL... you are sooo cute! You know that Julie Child said to never apologize. If it originally was suppose to be Peach Dumplings, you could now call it Peach Explosion...and pretend that is exactly how it was suppose to be!

BTW...Your's still look scrumptious and I bet it tasted delicious!

"OH this is the CUTEST THING EVER"... BJ, How did it taste??? Did you make any kind of VENT in the dumpling, I know when I'm making pie I have to vent it or it will "VENT ITSELF" and that won't be pretty!!! You are "TOO CUTE", consider yourself SUPER HUGGED! Hubby and I have been eyeballing those dumpling too, and I'm going to be making them SOON,hehe! OH and "Congratulations on winning that beautiful basket"!!! Lucky You!!!

What a great post! I can relate; we all have days like that in the kitchen, but can't describe it the way you just did; love it. As long as the result came out good, I guess it was worth it.

I had spotted that delicious looking treat on Yvonne's blog, too. I haven't had the nerve to try my hand at it yet.

I know they must be delicious. My grandmother used to say that it was the messy cakes that tasted best.♥

Oh BJ, the same thing happens to me, when I attempt some pretty baking thingy. :-) My attempts never look like they "are supposed to." ,-)

But then, the only important part, is how it tastes!

Very cute post BJ! :) I always say "Was it good?" if the answer was yes - I don't care much if it's pretty! ;)

BJ, I still have some fresh peaches from the hill country and thought I'd give this a try when I saw it posted on Yvonne's site. May rethink this! LOL
I'm sure the tasted delicious regardless. Nothing like fresh peaches with a little ice cream. ~ Sarah

It looks good to me! And I bet it tasted terrific. So much fun reading about your struggle though! Makes me feel a bit better about my own kitchen foibles.

Smart Mr. Sweet Nothings for covering it in ice cream! Yummm!

OK...BJl, I want you to know that first, I spewed coffee all over my BRAND new computer, THEN I peed my pants!! This was, hands down, the funniest danged post I have EVER seen! OMG...you need an award for this one!!! I know Mary had to enjoy this, too! She's totally amazing.....and so are you!!!

Your story was a lot better than any gourmet could cook!! I'll take your humor anyday! I bet Mr. Sweets even wiped the wall : )

Yvonne @ StoneGable said...

Oh, BJ! This is hysterical!!! I can just imagine you and the puffed pastry wrestling to see who will give in first! Oh so funny!
I must admit I am not a baker either. I always go into new baking adventures a little hesitant.
Seriously, you must have had old puffed pastry. It doesn't rise correctly if it is too old. Just like you and me!
And I have never, ever, never had one explode. This is a new trick! But Mr. Sweets was right to scrape all that goodness off of the wall!

You made a silk purse out of a peach dumpling and wrote the most entertaining post!
You are the best!!!!

I wrote you a big long note on your peach dumpling debacle on your peach post!

I have to say...I'm laughing at this one. I don't know what happened to yours. I made Yvonne's recipe and they turned out great. My leaves weren't quite as pretty as hers because I did them free hand, no leaf cookie cutter at my house. But, they did keep their shape and didn't explode. So...no answers for you. I've worked with puff pastry before, so maybe yours got too soft? These are so good that it really wouldn't matter what shape they were in they would still taste good!
