A WEE DINING ROOM MAKEOVER..

Don't you just LOVE it when you get something that
you have been wanting for a LOOONG time...
and it looks even BETTER than you imagined ??

Sorry this post has so many photos but....what can I say? I AM PROUD !!
*
Here I go...mixing TOO many colors...patterns...
I just can't help it...
**
I LOVE an EXCITING room !!
One that makes me catch my breath
when I walk into it...
*
I realize I get TOO MUCH going on at the same time sometimes...
but I just decorate in the way that makes ME feel good..
*
I hope YOU do the same!
*
ONCE UPON A TIME....
there were some very BROWN dining chairs...
***
Since I am a "LOVE PAINTED FURNITURE" person,
these chairs were NOT my favorite thing in my dining room...
....a LITTLE natural furniture is ok...
but a large dining OAK table, 6 OAK chairs and a large OAK buffet
WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME...!
**
I reached for the paint can MANY times but MR. SWEET sucked air through his teeth
and his eyes rolled so far back, I was sure, ONCE AGAIN, that he might never
be able to focus them again !!
*
BUT, THEN.... my friend wanted to sell her almost new CREAMY WHITE dining chairs...
*
Although I PROMISE I never really PRAYED for creamy white dining chairs,
I TOOK THIS AS A SIGN FROM ABOVE...
*
and when she said...
$150.00 for ALL SIX,
I got that money to her so fast it caused me to pass a little gas !
***
....and, may I just say....
OH HONEY !
*

I am so so so in love with these chairs...
SHELIA...can you LOVE CREAMY WHITE CHAIRS ??
Why, you bet your splinters in the fanny, you can !!
*
We had some family over for dinner and we used the THRIFTED rattan placemats and even THEY looked better with the CREAMY WHITE CHAIRS...!! :>)

These chairs made my dining room
GROW UP OVERNIGHT....!!!
Yes, ma'am....they surely did.
*

I love my hanging light...I love the chunkyness of it..
It seems to "hold it's own" with the heavy, long oak table beneath it...and I really love the white glass globes. This was found at a local FLEA MARKET about 18 years ago for $45.00....I've wondered several times if I should paint the base of it...somehow, I like the brushed brass. I also love SHINY brass and am VERY slow to ever paint over it....

Can't you see how much better they look?
BROWN in the top photo...
LOVELY, DARLING, CREAMY WHITE in the bottom photo...
OH, WHAT A DIFFERENCE A CHAIR MAKES....
**

I added more WHITES to my vintage, rejected little $5.00 display wire rack that wants to be a BAKERS RACK when it finally grows up...and there's the AWESOME sign that SUSIE HARRIS made for me...if YOU are looking for a great sign, she has some in her ETSY shop that are TO.DIE.FOR.

**
I gave my vintage mantel a new LOOK...
More creams and....
does that clock look ok there...??
I hope so because it's really huggin' my COLOR SCHEME here...
**
**

Some of you might know that I am a
TABLE CLOTH PERSON.....big time !
BUT...
I'm giving this nekked table a few days to see if I like it better...
**
I do love a pretty tablecloth but....
these ADORABLE CREAMY WHITE CHAIRS
are makin' this brown table look lots better....
*
I put some vintage shutter SWINGING DOORS
up beside my windows...
**
I had BLUE TRANSFERWARE plates hanging there but...
they have been there 6 or 7 years and I wanted something new...
...to match
THE CHAIRS...

At first, they looked STRANGE to me...
you know how you get used to something one way and when
you change it, it takes awhile before you know if you're
gonna like it or not...
but, so far...I like the COTTAGE look it adds
to my BED AND BREAKFAST dining room...
The one with the
LOVED, CREAMY WHITE CHAIRS !!
*
I'VE been hanging out in the dining room since I am IN LOVE with it again...
and dining rooms make me hungry...
**
I had lemons....
and our SWEET TOOTH was wanting a.....PIE

....if I could have only ONE dessert in the world...
I WOULD CHOOSE PIE !!
**
See the 1954 calendar plate?
It belonged to MR. SWEET'S momma...
*
One of our kids or grands will get it if they want it...
I really don't think it's all that pretty but...
sentiment, ya know....
**
Frankly.....
I like this plain white vintage plate with a piece of
LEMON PIE
much better !
;>)

Isn't it so wonderful when you get something that you just LOVE and you spend half the day walking back in there to LOOK at it all over again ?

The sun is shinning bright out my window...
Hope your day is FILLED with sunshine !!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your dining room. It is just gorgeous and your new white chairs are perfect. Just wonderful. I love all of your beautiful bakers racks, hutches and the wonderful shelves you have above the windows. The shutters are just fabulous. I had shutters on the side of windows in the den in my last house and I love that look. Beautiful room. The mantel is wonderful with the white/creams too. Good for you, this is beautiful. Hugs, Marty

The chairs set off the table so beautifully BJ! I know what you mean about loving something so much you keep looking at it! I am so happy for you that you got such a great deal and just what you wanted. I think the clock looks great on the mantle too!

Thank you so very, very much for your posting. I have an oak table with six matching chairs and had just about given up on having anything else. I know that I could never have convinced my husband that white chairs would be a good thing, but now I can show him your dining room! Now, I doubt that six chairs for $150 will appear, but maybe he'll let me paint an old random chair to see how it looks and we can go from there. Thank you again -- Annie
p.s. You have just the right mix of white and color -- beautiful!

I loved it before but now I really love it with your new chairs. I'm shocked at how much the chairs pull the whites from around the room all together. The mantle is much more noticeable now...don't you think? I love your clock there! You knew what you needed and you were right!!

Not too much at all, it all looks great, I too LOVE those chairs, what a deal that was! and please don't put a tablecloth on the table, just get lots of different cute placemats.
The clock looks real nice there too...and that lemon pie..my favorite..looks so delish to me!
Come say hi :D

Oh BJ, it has been a while and I have missed you my friend, but boy did I pick the right day to stop by....The dinning room is wonderful...I have an oak table with a white base and chairs and it really makes a difference. Love yours! Your bakers rack with the white dishes is just perfect and I think I might just put a shelf like yours over my window. I really like that and it give another place to display. Everything you did is gorgeous and you have every right to be proud. I am so happy for you to get the chairs.

I am trying to do so many things and not getting much done. We have had to do a lot of new fencing and when Roy is at work, I am the boss!!!!!!

Trying to put together some post for this week before Roy comes home and we are off to auction on Thursday with as many goats as our trailer will hold. We have 83...I think. We are headed to Goldwaite and I think we will spend the night in that area, just to get away from home for a day or two. There is the most wonderful shop there called Kreations....Roy said I could shop...not at all like him, but I will take advantage of his lapse.

Well, I am rambling. Sorry.

Hi BJ,
I love how you love your home and always changing things around. I think your home is a place you could visit and put your feet up and your hands around a hot cup of tea and just feel so at home. You should be proud of that. AND that pie, did you make that?, it looks like something out of a magazine. Yummo!!

Hugs,
Chris

I ask for birthday pie instead of birthday cake every year! you know what, my husband gets that rolled back eyes look too when I'm decorating, what's that all about?

This is such a great dining room! I love how you are not afraid to mix colors and patterns and the results are very cozy and warm. The new chairs look awesome and the mantel is really nice. I adore all your dishes etc. and that lemon pie is to die for!

I have the oak dilemma too and paint also makes my husband feel faint. So we have to find solutions to the giant oak that has fallen out of favor to the paint. You did it! Congrats!

Justine said...

Holy cow, BJ!!!!! Those chairs are frickin' fantastic with your table!!! It made a HUGE difference in the room. HUGE. I even like the shape of them better than the oak ones. But... what are you doing with all your oak ones? Dang, if I had the money I'd make Mr. Sweet ship em to me. Then I'd paint em. LOL

I have to tell you, I really love the way you decorate. I wish I could be less matchy matchy and more unique like that. I think it just makes a room so much more cozy and comfortable to spend time in.

Btw... I hope that little fart you let out didn't strip any of the paint off the chairs. God only knows with all the weird food you eat.

Justine :o )

Your chairs are PERFECT for this room! Did you notice how gorgeous they are with your pretty white fireplace? They really made a huge change in your room didn't they. I love them with your bare table. I'm a tablecloth person, too, but your wondeful new creamy white chairs look so great contrasting with the wood top.

Your commentary made me LOL twice! HA! I LOVE the way you write! Don't ever change...OK?

Your white stone ware/tureen all looks so wonderful with your new look. The shutters just add he finishing touch! Love that cottage look! I know just what you mean about going back in and just enjoying it allll again...so much fun! :-)

Thanks for sharing all these wonderful pics...but most of all...thanks for sharing you! You are a gem in Blogland! :-)

I need a lot of help when it comes to making things look pretty so I studied each picture carefully. I have too much stained wood in my house because my husband thinks it a sin to paint wood. I just love the white chaires with the shiny table. I love the country touches. A wonderful room. Good job. Valerie

I can be such a matchey person but when I saw the picture with the white chairs I think I am sold that to much matchey may not be so good. Those chairs really make a good difference. Alas I do have a hubby that may have a heart attack at the thought of painting mine but it is the beginning of yard sale season, maybe I will be lucky! I only need four.
Have a great week.
