YOUR invitation to an AFTERNOON TEA....

3/1/10---reposted to substract link and to add another..
;O)I've wanted to have an afternoon tea ever since I FINALLY got a pretty little teapot...
*
The neat little tea set I thrifted from GOODWILL...
$7.00 for the 5 pieces...
tea pot and LID
sugar and LID
creamer....
It always seems funny to me that "they" count the lids as pieces but....o, well...
*
The beautiful TEA CUP I won from the generous and loving SHERRY
at EDIE MARIE'S ATTIC a couple years ago...
Thanks again, SHERRY...I still just love this pretty cup and saucer,
and I use it often...
*
.. it's a beautiful cup and I am so lucky to have it...it goes with ANY
teapot I might ever have...
*
I made the most delicious STRAWBERRY SCONES today for our tea...
(Mr. Sweet found them, ate a couple and he doesn't even DRINK tea..
hmmm....I am thinking they must also taste pretty fair with icy cold MILK..!
*
go here for the wonderful recipe...
**
I changed my recipe up a little because we aren't using
WHITE flour...whole wheat instead...
*
we also aren't using REAL sugar...SPLENDA instead...
*
I added vanilla since I add vanilla to EVERYthing I cook...
*
and, I added ground cinnamon and extra Splenda to the tops of mine before baking...
I didn't have BLUEBERRIES but I had fresh STRAWBERRIES....
*

Aren't they really pretty...sort of fancy looking, don't you think ? With a dainty cup of tea, they can look 'fancy'...with a big glass of cold milk, they can look 'substantial' !! ;>)
**

I've found that these scones take on a biscuit texture when baked....
But you can drop the exact same dough into hot oil and they become little PUFFS...much lighter and fluffier but HARDER ON THE ARTERIES !! :o(

I've fixed a tray, by the big SOUTHERN window..
the sun is out so bright today that I had to close my blinds to take pictures...
MUCH better than SNOW !
I am the ONLY one in Blogland that LOVES wintertime but I sure don't much like SNOW and ICE...
**
I LOVE SLICED lemons...they just look so pretty...(HI, DIXIE, down there in FRENCH LIQUE, TEXAS !)
**
*

A tiny little glass pitcher; for cream, I'm sure...
I just filled it with sweet little vintage spoons...
**
I love the way fruit looks in pretty glassware...
*
My wintertime GERANIUM is STILL just blowing my mind with it's pretty, pink blooms...
right here in the dead of winter...
I LOVE IT !
*Thanks, Mr. Sweet, for putting in two huge SOUTHERN windows for me...."
(i LOVE the word "southern"...it just conjures up so much sweetness to me)
**
Gosh, I'm makin' my own silly self hungry !

*

This beautiful little spreader was in the package with the teacup from SHERRY...

So SO glad we had this time together...
I love scones and tea but....
I LOVE ALL OF YOU MORE !!

This northern gals loves you afternoon tea. It all looks so pretty. You do some fine thrifting!
I find it hard to bake with Splenda. I have a friend who is diabetic and I try to make her things. It seems it comes out dry..
Did you have your dark choc today?? The doc on TV said it is a must..and walnuts but I bet pecans would do!

BJ, Your tea party was set up so pretty and nice! I love the tea set, all 5 pieces and all. LOL Why DO they count the lids, anyway?! Makes no sense to me at all. :-)
I wish you'd send me the scone recipe or publish it. hint hint....
We are not eating sugar, salt , or fat in this household either. I have made big adjustments in my cooking since Mr. S's diagnosis. I do miss the salt more than the sweets, though... I am hoping for better weather up here in SNOHIO! It is gray depressing and snowy...
Spring can't come soon enuf for me! hugs, Sue

Hi BJ!!

I LOVE the tea you posted!! How sweet you used the teacup & saucer and the little spreader. They have lots of love in them for you!! The tea set is awesome and will look so awesome with those red/white English dishes you have that I adore!! Great find! I'm gonna try your scone recipe. We're trying to cook healthier and sometimes it's a challenge when you have a sweet tooth!

Lots of love & hugs, Sherry

PS The teacup is very special... my mom had a humongous collection of them which she gave me when she went into the nursing home. She never suggested I keep them all. She wanted me to share some of them with others. I chose sets to give all our family members and here friends that are still living and I knew she would want me to share with my friends also. I'm so happy that you have one of them!!
