YOUR invitation to an AFTERNOON TEA....

3/1/10---reposted to substract link and to add another..
;O)I've wanted to have an afternoon tea ever since I FINALLY got a pretty little teapot...
*
The neat little tea set I thrifted from GOODWILL...
$7.00 for the 5 pieces...
tea pot and LID
sugar and LID
creamer....
It always seems funny to me that "they" count the lids as pieces but....o, well...
*
The beautiful TEA CUP I won from the generous and loving SHERRY
at EDIE MARIE'S ATTIC a couple years ago...
Thanks again, SHERRY...I still just love this pretty cup and saucer,
and I use it often...
*
.. it's a beautiful cup and I am so lucky to have it...it goes with ANY
teapot I might ever have...
*
I made the most delicious STRAWBERRY SCONES today for our tea...
(Mr. Sweet found them, ate a couple and he doesn't even DRINK tea..
hmmm....I am thinking they must also taste pretty fair with icy cold MILK..!
*
go here for the wonderful recipe...
**
I changed my recipe up a little because we aren't using
WHITE flour...whole wheat instead...
*
we also aren't using REAL sugar...SPLENDA instead...
*
I added vanilla since I add vanilla to EVERYthing I cook...
*
and, I added ground cinnamon and extra Splenda to the tops of mine before baking...
I didn't have BLUEBERRIES but I had fresh STRAWBERRIES....
*

Aren't they really pretty...sort of fancy looking, don't you think ? With a dainty cup of tea, they can look 'fancy'...with a big glass of cold milk, they can look 'substantial' !! ;>)
**

I've found that these scones take on a biscuit texture when baked....
But you can drop the exact same dough into hot oil and they become little PUFFS...much lighter and fluffier but HARDER ON THE ARTERIES !! :o(

I've fixed a tray, by the big SOUTHERN window..
the sun is out so bright today that I had to close my blinds to take pictures...
MUCH better than SNOW !
I am the ONLY one in Blogland that LOVES wintertime but I sure don't much like SNOW and ICE...
**
I LOVE SLICED lemons...they just look so pretty...(HI, DIXIE, down there in FRENCH LIQUE, TEXAS !)
**
*

A tiny little glass pitcher; for cream, I'm sure...
I just filled it with sweet little vintage spoons...
**
I love the way fruit looks in pretty glassware...
*
My wintertime GERANIUM is STILL just blowing my mind with it's pretty, pink blooms...
right here in the dead of winter...
I LOVE IT !
*Thanks, Mr. Sweet, for putting in two huge SOUTHERN windows for me...."
(i LOVE the word "southern"...it just conjures up so much sweetness to me)
**
Gosh, I'm makin' my own silly self hungry !

*

This beautiful little spreader was in the package with the teacup from SHERRY...

So SO glad we had this time together...
I love scones and tea but....
I LOVE ALL OF YOU MORE !!

A COUNTRY BREAKFAST
at SWEET NOTHINGS...
in
blacks and whites and candle lights.....

i love candle light, ESPECIALLY in the mornings...
starts my day off with a glowing feeling...

*
this is a perk of retirement...leisure breakfasts...
after all those years of "hurry, hurry...gotta get to work"...
*

three little vintage creamers...
lined up like little soldiers,
carrying sweet smelling roses from my garden...
*

cute little cups help dress up plain white plates and a VERY simple table...

and add a little smile while they are doing it !
*

another vintage sugar bowl from my tiny collection...
wonder why i love sugar bowls...with little tiny handles on the sides...
and a nice little lid on top ?
I love them...I surely do..
*

our country breakfast this morning...
hot, sweet dunkin donut coffee...ummm...
hot and spicy OWENS country sausage...
hot buns, toasted, and covered in homemade strawberry perserves...
eggs, scrambled with peppers and extra sharp cheddar cheese...

I'M SEEING DOTS BEFORE MY EYES....

MR. SWEET says that he is DREAMING in dots.....
Red and white ones....and black and white ones...
But he never has come right out and said,
"DON'T BUY ANYMORE D.O.T.S.
soooo...
..when I found these adorable black and white POLKA DOT
chair cushions...well.....
I JUST COULDN'T RESIST THEM any more than I can fly !
*
...waaay too cute !
**

and, OF COURSE, they inspired me to do yet another black and white tablescape....
*
**
Huge black and white bandanas from THE DOLLAR TREE
**

...just simply BLACK AND WHITE....
**

...and POLKA DOTS....
**

See this BROWNIE..?.
**
OOO, YES...it LOOKS pretty...

all decked out in CHOCOLATE FUDGE GLAZE
and wearing fresh, home-grown PECANS right on top...
**
She may LOOK good but may I just say....
"Ewwwwww!!'
**

...threw them in the trash !!
**

HEALTHY OR NO....

I can't get anything done......

...for watching THIS !!
*2/24/10
I am linking with SUSAN for OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY
and with KATHLEEN for WHITE WEDNESDAY I DO love watching the OLYMPICS...
**
I am sooo proud of this young man !

APOLLO is one of our very favorites !!
********************************
**************************************************
Tuesday morning, we awoke to more of THIS...
It didn't last too long since the sun came out and has been shining brightly
all day long...
**
Then, I had a phone call from my NUMBER ONE grandson, DREW...
He said, "Come on, Memaw, I'll buy you breakfast !"
*
Hahahhhaaa...he is such a sweetie.
*
To know that he wants to spend time with ME just makes my whole being sing with joy !!
**
We had some wonderful pancakes with all kinds of delicious syrups...
and I do believe IHOP makes the BEST coffee...!!
**
Just sitting beside him, listening to his excitement about his job and...well...just his life,
makes me feel so blessed....and loved.
It's a wonderful feeling !
**
When he had to leave for work....
*
GUESS WHERE I HEADED....!
**
I didn't find much this time, tho...
I am collecting these little glasses with different things painted on them...
they are great for juice.
*
The one with the little red tulip was the only one I found today....
**When I saw this photo on your left with the jar full of tapers, I knew
I had to do that, too...
You KNOW I am such a COPY CAT...
**
Tapers aren't cheap so when I found a handful at GW for 10 cents apiece, I got 'em...
'course....now I need a much cuter jar to put mine in....
*sigh.....
*
It just makes me wonder WHO comes up with all these ideas to add
interest..
texture..
cuteness
to our cottages !!! ??
O, but it's so so fun !!

LOVE LETTERS....

I am linking with: MARY for RUBY TUESDAY
COLE for TUESDAY AT THE TABLE ....(snack table, that is..:O)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOVE LETTERS......
While going through an olden trunk not too long ago...
I came across some beautiful love letters
between my GREAT AUNT BETTIE and GREAT UNCLE BRYSON...
*
It seems my little mama had saved these letters for all those years...
**
They didn't have a ribbon around them...
just an old rubber band someone had used to keep the letters together; maybe my mama...
I am so so glad she did...
**
I found this RED RIBBON....
I have a feeling AUNT BETTIE liked red...
*
Let's untie that ribbon and take a little peek...
**
The writing is so beautiful...
I could NEVER write that pretty...
*
1911...1912....1924...
Some of these precious letters.....almost a HUNDRED YEARS OLD....
*
In the precious bundle, I found vintage post cards...
1910....that IS ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD....ok..WILL BE in JUNE..
and a 2 cent stamp...in red..
*
**
There's several more post cards......
all so so pretty....
*
....this is my tall, thin GREAT- UNCLE BRYSON
*
...and my Great-Aunt BETTIE
O...
and did I say that she is the one I was named after ?
Just a different spelling ....she was BETTIE..
I am BETTY....
and I am thrilled to find this photo of her when she was young.
*
I remember her as always OLD....and always a sweet lady.
*
**
Do you think she would be mad at me if she knew I planned to read her LOVE letters ?
*
I think not.....
.she saved so many wonderful things...
black SILK hose..
complete 1900's magazines
beautiful glass bottle stoppers from HER daddy's saloon..
photos by the truck load....
*
This beloved couple were never blessed with children...
so most of their things were left to my mother and her sisters.
*****
After thinking about how she must have saved these things FOR FAMILY TO ENJOY SOMEDAY,
I fixed myself a nice, afternoon snack tray, lit a candle, got out my glasses....
*
and enjoyed part of the day....
with my GREAT AUNT BETTIE and my GREAT UNCLE BRYSON....
and just day dreamed about their precious and long enduring LOVE.... *heavy sigh
