HOME ON THE RANGE...

MR. SWEET and I had the most amazing time a few weeks back.
We were invited to a real CHUCK WAGON meal.
Our friends were dedicating a COWBOY CHURCH that Sunday and threw the most amazing meal I've ever seen.
***
This is RUSTY...the cook.
Rusty had to have both knees replaced and is wearing braces but let me say...
Those braces sure didn't interfer with his cooking abilities !!
***

Here's the old chuck wagon where all the action took place...
***
***
Rusty even had MR. SWEET peeling potatoes...he looked mighty handsome that day !!
Those pots...full of PINTO BEANS...HAM HOCK...PURE GOODNESS !
and...the COFFEE...there in that huge coffee pot...strong enuf to be DELICIOUS...
stout enuf to make you wanna slap your pappy !!
***

BRISKET, MASHED POTATOES...HOT BISCUITS...BERRY COBBLER...
OH HONEY !

(NOTE*.... the photos of biscuits/cobbler are off the internet..we were well into eating them before I thought about photos...I took all other photos...)
Rusty made a PEACH cobbler, along with the biscuits..
Old fellas mixed right in with the young fellas....
all huddled around the fire....and the food !!
***
It was misty and a little cold this day...just absolutely PERFECT for the occasion!!
***

OOO, there's those magnificent RED BEANS...
**
OOPS...there's RUSTY, ringing the DINNER BELL...
GOTTA GO NOW.... ..........

Many thanks to all of you for stopping by...
be sure to stop over at

For some reason, everything tastes better when cooked in cast iron. I have a cast iron frying pan that was my moms.
It looks like it was A LOT of fun.

Hi there. Thanks so much for the blogby the other day! I think this chuck wagon meal looks amazing. I have or once had a cowboy cookbook with meals that were once cooked the old fashioned way like this. Even had one for coffee cooked in a pot. I tried it and it WAS strong!!!!! What fun this looks like.

We have friends who have dismantled, numbered and moved antique log cabins to their place in the country. They live in the largest.
He cooks with these old iron dutch ovens outdoors. He did this a couple of years ago and served us in the one room cabin that serves as their guest house. It was so much fun, sitting at the long harvest table in front of a working wood range and having that delicious meal that had been cooked outside, on/in coals.

I know you enjoyed this and I know it tasted so good!

My husband took me camping a few times when we first got married. It wasn't for me at all (I like hotels) except for the food. I can still remember the food cooked over a campfire and would love to have a meal like this one. It looks like so much fun.

This looks like such a fun day. The food looks delicious, I swear I can smell the ham and beans. And cobbler, is there anything better? I don't think so! Thanks for sharing this, now my mouth is watering lol. Kathy

This post reminded me of my Grandpa(Popo). He was a chuck wagon cook ..they moved cattle from New Mexico to Texas ,,In fact he is the one that taught my mother how to cook. which was over a wood stove and castiron skillets etc...I'm thankful that alot of his cooking has been handed down

What a great idea for a church party! Our church owns 38+ acres that we hope to build on someday. In the meantime it would be perfect for this type of fellowship get together:>) Looks like fun!
