LAZY.....

PLEASE visit SMILING SALLY for BLUE MONDAY

DEEDS loves to fish. In fact, ALL the grands love to fish. It's just that after about the age of 10, they all have many more things to do with their lives and I think they actually forget how much they like fishing.
Basketball, baseball, dance, tumbling, cheer leading, friends birthday parties.......the list goes on and on and on.....
Just Deeds and I paid a visit to the little, almost dried up park lake the other day and she just about fished her little heart out....
NARY A BITE.....
**************************

At one point, she looked over at me, all sprawled out, enjoying the nothingness of the moment and said,
"Memaw...fishing is....lazy!"
hmmmm....the online dictionary says, "LAZY...la-ze
1. Resistant to work or exertion.
2. Slow moving: sluggish...as in...a lazy river
3. Conducive to idleness or indolence....as in...a lazy summer day
I THINK SHE IS RIGHT...
FISHING IS LAZY....

Bless her little heart...she had a smile on her face the entire afternoon...
She insisted on learning...
"I can bait my OWN hook, Memaw, if you will show me how!"
Being a grandmother..I wanted to do it 'all' for her and make her have a great time...
but, YES, OF COURSE she needed to learn to bait her own hook....
"I can do my OWN casting, MEMAW!! I've been watching you."
OF COURSE, she needed to do her own casting...and a mighty fine job she did of it, too.
I AM PROUD!!

Long about this time, things had been slow just about as long as a 7 year old can stand...
She headed for the drinking water...the ice cubes had long melted....

...then, it was back to fishing....

....and fishing.....

...and then, while I loaded the fishing stuff into the back of the car...
SHE hit the playground.
By the time I got my camera out, pointed and ready,
I missed her going down the slide...TOO FAST for me....

After fishing all afternoon and into the early evening, playing for a long while at the playground...
we were TIRED...and HUNGRY..

Doing what 2 tired and hungry people tend to do....
WE HEADED FOR THE PIZZA PLACE...
SHE said, "Memaw...I wasn't going to eat any ole fish, even if we caught one. I wanted pizza!"
My sweetie....such joy she brings to this old heart!
A perfect way to end a PERFECT DAY....
HAPPY BLUE MONDAY, EVERYONE!!

This post brings back memories! I grew up on a lake and fished all of the time. Off the dock, in the row boat...off the shore. What a wonderful day you both had!
Hugs,
Penny

Good morning BJ. Deeds is just too adorable. I love your fishing photos of her. When we have that rare moment with our grands, it is bliss. And what kid doesn't love pizza. Once my grandson, age 3, asked Santa for Pizza for Christmas. We have laughed about that for years. He is almost 21 now.

Happy Labor Day To you and your family.

Love xoxo...Jeanne

Love your Blue Monday. Nothing more precious than grandchildren, unless it is great great children. I have one of those that means the world to me. Thanks for your nice comment and glad you will follow me. Maybe you can find me if I start doing things right. Yes, grannies do need to stick together.

I see what you mean about the Texas water situation..look at how low the lake is! My husband ~ the fisherman ~ says that fishing has little to do with fish ~ and all about doing nothing! She looks like she is doing a great job of that and look at that smile.

What a cutie. Fishing is a "lazy" sport, my grandson and I go all the time. It sure teaches them patience. What a beautiful ending to a beautiful day having pizza. I hope you and yours is having a super Labor Day Weekend.

What a great statement, "Fishing is lazy"! I'm glad she likes to fish. I think it's good for girls to do what is traditionally considered a boys hobby and vice versa. I don't think it fair to impose steroetypical roles on them. It looks like you had a perfectly pleasant lazy day!

Grandkids are the best! They just grow up too, too quickly as you note. It's great to be able to spend time with them and just enjoy!

Hi BJ
How nice that you took your little granddaughter fishing. It looked to be the perfect day for that. Too bad no fish were caught...I wonder whether she would have enjoyed some of her catch fried. Mine wouldn't. She is getting to be a big girl to be able to do all that herself. A fun time.
I hope you have been enjoying a nice holiday weekend.

She is such a cutie! Since I've already read your post about breakfast in the rain, I know where Deeds got her wonderful attitude about life - "I didn't want fish anyway, I wanted pizza"! What a trooper - apparently just like her grandmother. laurie
