I'm in love with BOARD and BATTEN...

LINKING WITH SUSAN
for MET MONDAY
***

This living room belongs to KIMBA over at A SOFT PLACE TO LAND...
It's a precious room just as it is...but...
it is BEFORE she fell in love with board and batten....
THIS is the very same room...AFTER she did her fabulous wall treatment....
Now, it just about knocked my ever-lovin' socks off !! MAGNIFICENT, Kimba!!
*****************************
I've always loved this look.....

(I can't take as good photos as Kimba...hope you can see it well enuf, tho)

When we converted our double garage into our dining room, I, too, wanted board and batten on the wall the vintage, pine mantel was located....

But, ALAS....I didn't even think about it until AFTER the electrical work for the sconces on either side was already done....

I started throwing hissy fits after I remembered that I wanted BOARD and BATTEN on that wall...
(and sorry, but I didn't take a photo BEFORE the boards were nailed in place)

MR. SWEET, being the kind and loving man that he is, and getting sick and tired of my whining and fit throwing, did the only logical thing....

He just started putting up those pretty boards and when he came to the first sconce..just skipped that area and went right on across to the second sconce, skipped THAT area and went right on to the end of the wall.

NOW...
I must say that I was wailing, squalling, sweating, and swearing because I was pretty sure it was going to look half-a**ed....

but....MR. SWEET was so right !!

It looked just perfect....I was totally IN LUV !!

I adore the added architectural interest it adds to my plain, little dining room...
our 1957 house is plain....a tract house with NO architectural interest any where to be found..
What little there is, we have added...just trying to make our cottage a little different from all the rest on the block...
I have got so many great ideas from so many bloggers...much better than
decorating mags !!!
**

Yes, I do ! I like it very VERY much...

THANK YOU, MR. SWEET...

*******************************

To see more board and batten treatments, go over to KIMBA'S...

she has a small list for you to take a look at. Boy...there's some FABULOUS photos and ideas over there at
A SOFT PLACE TO LAND....

.....and thanks for coming to see mine today.
*just to say that 2 grands and i watched "DIRTY DANCING", for the umpteenth time last night and it is such a GREAT movie..i just wanted to remind you of it in case you haven't seen it in awhile. that music playing just makes me want to dance. i can't make "those" kind of moves anymore but i sure could at one time!! :O)

The board and batten in your dining room is FABULOUS! It turned out wonderful and if you hadn't told me I would have never known that the sconce area was not suppose to be that way!

Penny

Oh, it gives it such character and makes the room look so cozy! The mister is smart as a whip, BJ! A keeper! I wish I'd thought of this when I was having the house redone. You're right, blogs are better eye candy than most anything else, and they're free to read to our heart's content! Dirty Dancing...so sad about Patrick Swayze. I want to watch Ghost again.

Maybe that's what my dining room needs! Is it just boards nailed every few inches? Gorgeous!

Looks wonderful. What a sweet Mr. Sweet Nothings you have.
Both Twin and I were without a computer this weekend. My was a fairly easy fix but hers is in the shop. We'll be getting in touch with you soon.

He did a GREAT job. Doesn't look a bit half...a... to me! giggles. My mom use to say that all the time when Daddy helped out on projects. I remember he remodeled the bathroom one year while she was out of town!

Hi BJ...I LOVE this change to your room...it really does add so much to the feel of the room...gives it depth, doesn't it?! I think it actually looks planned with the lights right where a board would be...that's a smart man your married to! :-) Susan

BJ, I had no idea that this look had an actual name! So, you actually nail boards to the wall, then use molding to separate? I wonder if you could get the same kind of look without the boards? Probably not, eh?

In any case, I love love loves it!!!! It really does give your dining room a charming, old-time, romantic look. Great job!!!!!!!

P.S. I bet you can shake your thing with the best of them!

Justine :o )

This is so pretty, BJ! I've wanted to do beadboard at the lake, but I am thinking I'd rather do this. I love it!

Hi BJ
Isn't it amazing what a little bit of wood can do to change the look of a room? I think your dining room looks charming. Having a fireplace in the dining room is very cosy.
