BLOGGY LOVE....and CHOCOLATE GRAVY...

THE other afternoon, my doorbell rang and a package was left on my porch swing....

IT was full of the BEST things....and all from my friend GLORIA at HAPPY TO BE
She is one of the sweetest ladies around and I am so proud to call her a bloggy friend.

Go over and read her story of why her blog name is HAPPY TO BE....and please tell her that I said HELLO.

The cutest little DUTCH CLEANER tea towel that her mother created..... NOW...let me see...what WAS the name of that cleaner...BON AMI ??

A 'to-die-for' cup towel that has ALL the right colors and STRAWBERRIES, to hang on my newly dressed bakers rack....How did you know, Gloria?

A vintage DUTCH CLEANER tin ....
this is so so cute...as OLD as I am, I've never seen one of these before...

In order to show off the precious, RED, bridge napkins Gloria added to my package,

I just HAD to make something special for breakfast to show them off...
SOOOO, I tried CHOCOLATE GRAVY...
several SOUTHERN bloggers have mentioned this delight but I had never tried it...
Aren't the RED strawberry napkins just perfect for SWEET NOTHINGS COTTAGE ?
Gloria knows how much I love strawberries... and the color RED !!!
I hope this photo will qualify for TABLESCAPE THURSDAY....

NOW.....as for the CHOCOLATE GRAVY....
Since I had NEVER had Chocolate gravy before...and, YES, I AM SOUTHERN..
over biscuits, it provided a very strange taste for me.
I love biscuits....I love chocolate....but I'm afraid, NOT TOGETHER. (O, I hope I don't get flogged!)
The gravy is almost like a chocolate pudding so, to me, it just didn't go with biscuits...
NOW...don't you know it would be awesome over cake...!!
***
CHOCOLATE GRAVY
from COOKS.COM
2 cups milk
4 Tablespoons Cocoa
4 Tablespoons sugar
4 Tablespoons flour
(altho it didn't call for it, I added a pinch of salt)
***
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Slowly bring milk to just below boil.
Whisk in dry mixture. Stir constantly until gravy thickens.
***
Good over scrambled eggs or biscuits
******
I still say it would be good over cake !
**
THANKS SO MUCH, GLORIA, FOR YOUR SWEETNESS....
I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU SENT TO ME
AND
I LOVE YOU THE MOST !!

I am praying for all of you out there in California...praying that the fires are totally extinguished before more damage is done and lives are lost.

That Gloria is a sweet one! Such lovely presents. :)

I'm with you on the "chocolate gravy", BJ. This southern girl has never had it either but somehow it just doesn't sound so good with scrambled eggs or biscuits. I agree...CAKE, especially angel food or pound cake!

Ooops...just lil' ol' me again! Wanted to say that I'm with you on the chocolate gravy! Hmmm...I'm southern and never heard of it before? Maybe Texas doesn't count? Hehe! I guess I'm old fashioned...I still like my homemade bisquits smothered in good ol' country sausage gravy!

Love ya,

Whaaaat? At first I thought you were putting us on; somehow chocolate and gravy never sounded right, next to each other. But I've been known to fix some pretty strange combos, so I'm not gonna knock it ... yet. LOL!

Beej, I love your 9/11 tribute! ...and (I) agree one-thousand percent that all Americans should be required to watch each year. I've a suspicion the media's trying to brush it under the rug or something. 'Want to do something on my site tomorrow night .. just haven't figured out what yet.

G'evening now,
Myra

What a nice package you got!
I am southern too and I don't think I would even try the chocolate gravy. There is just something wrong with that! lol
Now tomato or red eye, different story!

Love your package and it all looked wonderful.
Here at the Eason home we love Cocoa gravy, but I have never used that recipe. Mine is not thick and no flour. As a matter of fact I learned as a young bride from my mother in law and do it from remembrance so i wouldn't have a clue.
I do agree you have to love the taste of sweet, buttery and salty.
It made for beautiful photos =)

Hi BJ, What a sweet and charming gift to receive! Too cute! Your tablesetting was charming and vibrant as well!

I was wondering how the chocolate gravy turned out. I'm southern, LOVE chocolate, could live on biscuits ALONE!!!...but couldn't imagine how they tasted together. LOL! Oh well, at least you tried it! :) ~hugs, Rhonda

BJ, I have had what we call Cocoa and Biscuits since I can remember, my Mom was from NC and everyone has it where she is from. Now I make mine real thick and serve it hot and I dip my biscuit in it. Now I am not saying I would eat it on top of eggs but I would dip my biscuit in it any day. But I guess some folks just are different cause my husband loves sausage gravy and biscuits and I just don't see any appeal in that at all! lol

Cocoa and Biscuits
1 cup of cocoa
2 cups of sugar
1/3 cup flour
1 cup milk
Stir together and heat
I use evaporated can milk but you can use whole or even 2 % but it won't be as thick and in my opinion not has good!
My Mom used to make this for me; you dip the biscuit in the cocoa. For a chocoholic like me it doesn't get any better.

And that gravy sure looks interesting. I would think it would be pretty delicious, but I'm on diet restriction (no sugar) fpr right now and can only lust from afar...

Happy FF!

When I was a young girl...I had a friend with a sweet southern grandma she'd refer to as "Mamaw." Mamaw would make the most divine biscuits I'd ever tasted!! They'd melt in your mouth, delicious. We'd have them hot with butter and jam. We never had them with chocolate gravy. I sure miss those biscuits!

Miss Gloria is such a generous soul...she can bring a bit of sunshine on any rainy day.

Sweet wishes,
Sara
