APPLE PICKIN' TIME.....

My thanks to SUSAN for hosting this lovely day...
MR. SWEET and I went apple pickin' today (Tuesday)
and we had such a good time....even ate lunch at the orchard.
We had Mexican food which was pretty good but the bestest of all...
FRESH APPLE CAKE......
O HONEY!

The orchard is a fairly large one with all different kinds of trees growing and producing.
These paticular trees were small but fully grown.

These are so perfect, with such perfect color that they look fake !!
But......they aren't.
These are called PINK LADY apples and they are small, crisp, and oh, so sweet...

They had a large barrel of RAW HONEY...with this sign on the side... :>)
We didn't buy any but now I am thinking I wish I had...
the orchard is only about 30 minutes from our house so I may just go back and get myself
some raw honey !!

They had a great supply of pumpkins...much better than the ones in the local grocery stores...
I bought another tiny one...but as it gets closer to HALLOWEEN...I will go out and get some large ones....
to carve for .......TRICK or TREAT night....boooooooo.......

Isn't this a cute little basket ?
I bought this several years ago at a local craft mall..
the little birdhouses are handpainted.....
***
I plan to make APPLE CAKE tomorrow...
It was just a little late in the evening when we got home to start baking...
***
...but MR. SWEET grilled for us and we had such a really great dinner...
HE IS SO A KEEPER !!!..!!!

I love in orchard country in south central PA and I love apple harvest time. One year I would like to take my sons and go apple picking. It looks like you had a great time!

Hi Miss BJ!!

You are right~those apples do look fake!! And I love your painted bushel barrel. My sweet farmer market lady friend gives me barrels that I have always used for gardening (weeding, carrying tools). I am going to hit her up to get some to paint. How fun that will be!!

Michigan is known for it's apples and we go to a big orchard that has a lovely restaurant, market and gift shop. The pumpkins and mums are 1/2 the price of those here in Chicago.

I love this time of year (even though I am being grouchy about summer ending!! ;-)

Hi BJ, Thanks for checking out my no sew pillow. I appreciate your nice compliment on my home too!

I would love to go apple picking sometime. We picked blackberries this summer, too many stickers! But they're so good! Have a great rest of the week, Kristen

What fun! We love to go to local orchards in the fall too. We will wait until the middle of October so we can enjoy the fall colors too. One of my favorite apples is the Pink Lady! Ours are not ready for picking until the beginning of November.

I love to go to the orchards. I am going to have to make another cake too . My mom had a spider bite ,at least that is what we thought it was, on her leg.She put honey on it and it cleared it right up !

Mmmm, that dinner that Mr. Sweet made looks so good! I need to get to the farmers market for more fresh corn while I still can! It looks like you had a perfect, beautiful day at the orchard. The apples are gorgeous, and how fun to have a pretty basket to put them in:>) Little things like apple picking on a warm fall day are what makes life happy!

Apple picking in west Texas? I'm jealous. Can't think of anywhere around here that would have apples to pick. Bummer. Maybe I should just head to the Farmer's Market tomorrow before the close down for the season.

Your food looks delicious. :)

Oh my gosh - now I'm so hungry!!

I envy you, living close to an orchard like that... nothing grows around here but cotton and grains used mainly for cattle feed :( Hazzards of living in "Beef Country" I guess... *sigh*

Looks like you had a great time apple pickin'. One of the things we enjoy about going to the orchards in Illinois, we manage to eat at least one apple as we pick. There is just something about picking an apple right off a tree and taking a big ol' bite.

We like pink ladies too.

I can't figure out why my posts won't show up. Anyway, thought I'd tell you that I have been to that very orchard! A few years ago, we were visiting my daughter who lives in Spur, Texas (about an hour and 1/2 away) and we took a little day trip to Lubbock to look at our old dorm and the house we lived in years ago. On our way out of town, we stopped in and had a meal there. We had an apple salad and some apple stuffing that was really good. The smell of the whole place was awesome! I think about that every now and then. Thanks for reminding me of some wonderful memories. If those other two posts show up, just delete them!!

I posted some fall pics of my home decorating on my site. Drop by if you haven't already.

Hoping to meet you some day.

I love spending time in an orchard, there's just something so special about picking your own fruit from the trees. So enjoyed all your pictures but ummmmm...your "booooooo" skeered me!!!!! hehe As usual, a true pleasure to visit you dear BJ:-) xoxo
