8/31/09..ANOTHER TINY MAKEOVER..a tiny repost to correct LOTS OF THINGS...

" THIS is the hutch that Bill built....."
***
I've told you before that he built the hutch top and used my vintage, harvest table as the base of this marvelous and much loved piece in my dining room. We bought the maple harvest table right after we married....way back in 1960.
Once the piece was finished, I covered it, every bit, with the BEST cottage RED....except the back.

He used off white paneling to back the hutch top and I have used it that way for several years...
let's see....how long HAS it been...about 8, I think.
My memory SO leaves a lot to be desired !! :(
I've changed the decor on my sweet, ole hutch many, MANY times but mostly stick with the
BLUE and WHITE vintage dishes.....
OH, YES...I was totally happy with my RED hutch...
UNTIL.........
I SAW THIS !!!
****

bwaaaaaa....i NEED a rooster lamp in the worst way...
NO...THIS ISN'T MY LAMP....NOR MY HEARTS...NOR MY HUTCH...

THIS drop-dead gorgeous RED HUTCH with all that luscious BLUE AND WHITE
belongs to our sweet SHERRY over at EDIE MARIE'S ATTIC...

***********WELL...excuse the h** out of me but I made a HUGE blunder here...

Even tho I am sure SHERRY would LOVE this pretty red hutch, it actually belongs to our RHONDI over at ROSE COLORED GLASSES...

now, since this is my FIRST mistake, ever...I am totally unsure as to how it happened. One thing that comes to mind is A SENIOR MOMENT....and this is as good an excuse as I can come up with. In fact, I find myself using this very excuse for a LOT of things lately.......

HEY..... how come MY blue and white didn't look anywhere near THIS good ? What is the secret?? OOO...I see it....RED in the background !!!
**
Now most of you might realize that I AM SUCH A COPY CAT...
I spend half my time stalking my favorite blogs....
the other half going for favorite LOOKS...
*****
Sooooo....having a stash of RED fabric, I got out my trusty measuring tape, thumb tacks and RED paint...
****RED paint to cover those white thumb tacks !!

I covered that white backing so fast, it made MR. SWEET'S head spin right off his body....
Being the deprived soul that I am...I haven't a pretty ROOSTER lamp to put in this spot....YET !!
This one with the little butterfly painted on it will have to do for now....
That little blue and white bell was found by Mr. Sweet at a flea market...he thought it matched my vintage, blue and white dishes and.....he was right.!
***

There...that photo on your left...white backing...looks so washed out now.
How come no one told me how much better it would look RED ??
How did SHERRY know....and I didn't ??? ...am I slow..or what?

h**...THE reason SHERRY didn't know is 'cause IT'S NOT HER HUTCH, I tell you!!
***

Someday, I might give that ole backing a fresh coat of this delicious RED paint....
in the meantime, while I have much more important things to do like...taking DEEDS fishing,
going to that zoo in that other town before winter sets in and they close it for the season...
hunting for a bright red bike that, next summer, the grand girls and I can RIDE....
IN THE MEANTIME...I'll just leave this red fabric in place....even tho it looks a little like BRICK from a distance...it's really not !! :O)
***

I am just in awe at how much more these dishes POP against that RED.....
SHERRY knew....I didn't....now...I do !! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY....

*************IT'S NOT HER HUTCH !!!

Oh, yes...and I need a LARGER rooster and a rooster lamp, like SHERRY'S...
(I might be beginning to sound ungrateful for what I DO have...believe me, I am not!!)
(It's just that my middle name is WANT and I can't do anything about it !!)
********AND BESIDES ALL THAT...I REALLY WANT A LAMP AND ROOSTER LIKE RHONDI'S !!!

***

A cuter lamp, a larger rooster, a few hearts and....
I'M GOOD TO GO !!
***
thanks to you, Sherry, AKA RHONDI, for your great inspiration !
if you are mad at me for copying you...come on over here and knock me down...then we can sit down, have a cup of tea (I'll even let ya have your tea in that pretty teacup I won from you!!) AWWW, OK, RHONDI, you can have tea, too !!
and then we can
ADMIRE OUR RED HUTCHES......together !! (meaning RHONDI and me..don't even know if Sherry even HAS a red hutch!!)
;O)

BJ, I just bet she will think that is the ultimate compliment. What a great idea with the red fabric on the back. You could just put a different shade on your lamp...maybe one with some color? If you are like some of these brilliant people you can use that fabric stash of yours and redo the shade.

Brenda Pruitt said...

You're right! Those dishes just look so much crisper and brighter against the red. So that isn't a "tiny" makeover. It's a "major" makeover!

B.J. I LOVE the red fabric covered hutch! I was thinking as I was admiring, hey that looks like brick:) Everything you touch looks good and I am sure Sherry will be happy that you copied her! Have a blessed day!

I thought the white looked fabulous too,but I really do love the red. It is just awesome. I LOVE the blue and white dishes, they are fabulous. Now that lamp looks great too, but I am with you, I have hunted for a rooster lamp for ages. I saw a bunny one at Marshalls last week, I may have to settle for that. It was really cute. Great job with the fabric. Hugs, Marty

That little transformation makes a huge difference! How nice the fabric is with the subtle conrast too! Have fun searching for your lamp and rooster.

And as for Sherry, I dont know her but they do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I am bettin' she won't mind a bit- especially since you gave her the props for the idea!

I'll say nope it wasn't BJ...so hmmmm where did I see it and I follow a blog trail and then I think...THERE it is! whew.

Thank you for sharing. I do love her lamp too!

OMG BJ, you're cracking me the hell up over your confusion of Sherry and Rhondi!

Yep, the red does look GREAT in the back, but yep, I think you should nix the material and paint it. I think the plates will pop even more against a solid red background in that gorgeous red you've used. Go out today and find a lovely rooster lamp! Go ahead, you're worth it!

Justine :o )
