Thanks so much, girls, for this fun event....
*
and, 2ND TIME AROUND TUESDAY, hosted by DIANE is always a really fun event.
Thanks, Diane!
*
PLEASE go by BOTH of these sites and see what all is being offered up today
for your viewing pleasure.
I always get some good ideas when visiting all the blogs that are participating...
Hopefully, you will, too..
and
MANY THANKS for coming by to see me today...
*
I have blogged about this hutch before but
nothing wrong with a few repeats every now and then...
right?
*
;O)
I found the top part of my hutch in a little shop
smack downtown ....they have darling things,
a lot of MACKENZIE-CHILDS items (new)
and some old pieces. At the time I bought this upper cabinet,
the shop had a LOT of antiques....very reasonable as most
of the pieces needed TLC....
the shop has since decided not to have furniture for sale.
BUMMER...
*
This top piece is very old...the glass is all wavy
and you can just tell it was made a long time ago...
*
I hung KATHY'S little heart on the door...
I have several of Kathy's hearts and they are all so sweet..
You might want to give a heart to someone and when you do,
think of KATHY !
*

I had to have a bottom piece for this short little top...
one day, I was at one of my favorite thrift stores and
spotted this piece way back in a dark corner....
it had been left out in the weather...it was blonde,
with lots and lots of peeling paint....
and...
it was marked $14.00, as it..
*
I was just beside myself...$14 bucks ?
Well, I called Mr. Sweet to please, with sugar on top, to
come a'runnin' with his trusty PICK UP TRUCK...
and...
he did !!
*

I painted the entire thing, put new rosy pulls with brass backplates...
*

the appliques on this old, beat up piece were just beautiful....
and in fine shape...
*

You can see a little warping on this end of the drawer...
not to worry....didn't bother me in the least...
"character" remember ! :O)
*

I delight in dressing the top of this honey with pretties...
changing with the seasons....
the painting is one of my very favorites and was bought
at a thrift store several years ago..I put it in a
snappy, new frame and I love the look!
*

There's that pretty vase from our CRUISE....
Beautiful Daughter surprised me with it...
springy looking little girl with a basket of flowers...
*

All in all...once the two pieces were married,
and painted the BEST shade of SAGE and added RED fabric to the back,
I found myself a wonderful piece of furniture that
has charm, character and the all-sought after....
STORAGE.....
NOW, I COULD
BUY MORE DISHES !! WOO HOO
XO bj

You must be the queen of turning a sows ear into a silk purse BJ! Those pieces are adorable once you got them made over and I love the items you display:>) I need to get back to making those hearts. I just scored a great stash of vintage jewels to embellish some with!

This is a very pretty. I love that you took two mismatched pieces, painted them and put them together. You would think they were always as set. They obviously needed each other. :)

SmilingSally said...

You put together a wonderful piece of furniture to display your collectibles. I especially like your spring girl.

The Quintessential Magpie said...

BJ, they also had three Boy Scout Bears (which is what I got for Mr. Magpie since he was an Eagle Scout... couldn't show it because it's a surprise, and he reads my blog... comments and all!) and Little Bo Peep. But I loved the animals in tubs! I want to say the cost of two was around $25 for both which isn't bad considering they retail for about $64 each. You put one of those little batteries in the back for it to run! :-)

XO,

Shela... who is still eyeing your cabinet!

The Quintessential Magpie said...

Oh, and BJ... I've told a couple of other bloggers and almost forgot to tell you that they had a cute Easter platter that was a neat shape, and they had a cute Easter egg cookie jar with a little bird on top. It would be cute on a table as a decoration. They weren't on sale yet... but who knows... they might make it there! :-)

XO,

Sheila

I opened up my blog with an aol account never thinking of Gmail .At some point a long time ago I guess I had one,but no idea the name and password. From what I understand that changed it that you now have to have a Gmail to open a blog. My daughter set me up with a new one,but i guess when the rules changed it found my old one.So all my old accounts were deleted and it wouldn't let me sign in.The next day the whole thing was gone.

Jean, I just love that little hutch of yours and if you had never told me about the two pieces not being a set I would not have known. They just look like they belong together. Of course YOU could make them look like it whether they did or not, you talented girl you. I do with I could look at things and see their potential like you do. You just have so much talent! This blog was right "down my alley". Love it!

Love you!
