2ND TIME AROUND.. PARKING TO DINING...

THIS is NOT my garage but, at one time, I had one just about like this...
2 car garage...not nearly as nice and straight as THIS one...
We used it a lot for storage and seldom parked our cars in it...
AND....I NEEDED A DINING ROOM.....BAD....MUCH WORSE THAN AN OLD, DIRTY GARAGE !!
*

Thank you to DIANE for hosting this fun
2ND TIME AROUND TUESDAY
*
Today, I would like to share my
2nd time around GARAGE... and tell you
how it became our DINING ROOM...
*
Mr. Sweet Nothings got out his trusty pad and paper...
his calculator and his check book and
MADE MAGIC....
again !
*
PLEASE....come into my
cozy dining room that once was a GARAGE...
but, kissed by PRINCE SWEET NOTHINGS,
and is now a functional and comfortable DINING ROOM for
our large family and for our home fellowship group, at times.
Our fantastic table, A MOVING SALE FIND, seats
ten comfortably and 12 in a pinch.....
*
We added two LARGE windows on the front, giving us such
wonderful light and a view of our neighborhood....
*
We opened a PASS THROUGH above the stove into the dining room
and I couldn't believe how much it opened up both the kitchen
and the dining room....
this opening really made the "new" room feel as if it was always here...
I have a wonderful tiled shelf on the pass-thru that I can pass hot dishes thru
to the table and I really love that !
*

We also raised the low garage concrete floor up to the level of the house...
this made one continuous flow, making the dining room now a real
part of the house and then tiled all of it to match the kitchen...
this cost more money than anything else on the project as
Mr. Sweet and I did all the work ourselves...
*
Looking thru the pass through...
the fireplace is a 2ND TIMER as well as
my chandy...I do love that chandy..just what I
wanted for that room..
Actually all the furniture in this room is thrifted...
I'll tell you about it another time.. ;>)
*

Aren't those large windows just fabulous....
and Mr. Sweet made the shelves above ea window.
I told you he was GOOD !
*
My 2ND TIME AROUND HUTCH but that is a whole 'nuther post....
;>)
Yes ma'am...I am truly thankful for my
2ND TIME AROUND garage now that is is my
BED AND BREAKFAST DINING ROOM !!
*
Many thanks for coming by to see my Trash to Treasure room...
please be sure to go over and thank DIANE and see all the other
fun things to see today...

BJ, this is really amazing! Can you send Mr. Sweet to my house??? He's GOOD! Loved this redo. And what a great room with that fireplace and those wonderful long windows. It looks GREAT! Great job, friend! It makes me wish so badly that I could do things like that myself. I love tools! I cut out cracks in plaster with a church key in our first house and mudded the walls before the wallpaper went up. I thought I was pretty hot stuff when I did it! LOL! But this... girl, you two are GOOD!

Happy 2nd Time Tuesday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

You and the prince hit on the solution--to raise the floor. Even though it's expensive and a BIG job, it's necessary to make your addition look like it was always a part of the home. Good job!

BJ, this is just beautiful!!!!! Y'all did a great job and I would ahve never known it was a garage...

Mr. Sweet Nothings is so talented. He obviously payed alot of attention to what would make you happy in that room. I love the shelves above the windows..and many other things too.

You know, your pictures were some of the first I saw at RMS a year or two ago! You lead me to this habit of blogging! Have I ever told you that?

Anyway, I do love that room!

That looks so nice! Love the pass through. When I was growing up, we had a pass through from the kitchen to the dining room.

Have a great day, Denise

What a gorgeous room! I have always loved your dining room and been a bit jealous of the wonderful space. Now I know how I could have a bigger dining room. But I would have to move the kitchen! Don't think my sweetheart would like that idea too much. Lots of work. And money. Thanks for sharing the story of your room. I love your creativity and the way you have decorated. It's so homey and cozy! ~Adrienne~

Dena said...

Wow BJ, that is an awesome second time around! I can't imagine getting all of that extra space :) Hubby thinks the kitchen should be knocked down to add to his garage...of course when I tell him that there would be no place to bake his cookies he backs off ;)

Hugs,
Dena

Wow! BJ, I would never guess in a million years that your gorgeous dining room, full of gorgeous things was a garage. I am so danged impressed with Mr. Sweet Nothings. I AM IMPRESSED WITH YOU TOO FOR THE BEAUTIFUL JOB OF DECORATING IN YOUR LOVELY DINING ROOM. MR. SWEET NOTHINGS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT!
Sorry I shouted but this a shout out room.

Your Mr. Sweetnothings did a wonderful job. You too 'cause you helped! You got double the room for the money by doing it yourselves. You probably don't need a garage much living in Texas. By turning it into a diningroom it is space well used. Love it.

Janene said...

I would never know that used to be a garage! That looks absolutely fantastic!
We don't park our cars in our garage either...I wish I could talk my hubby into using it for a pool house, since it is right next to the pool! I'm still working on him!

Shirley said...

I wish I had a garage like that. When you live with a pack rat it's just not possible. Sheesh! Anyway, your project turned out fantastic.

BJ, are you talking about my Southern pillow? I didn't post it because I took the picture in yellow light, and it looked kind of dingy. (I'm learning about lighting as I blog, LOL!). I was thinking you had a copy of it. If not, do you want me to email a copy to you? Let me know, and I will. I'm away from that pillow currently, but I can send you the pic I have on my computer. I posted it before (but the light looks dingy in this shot).

Feel free to email me and let me know. I can't click on your email because they didn't put something on my laptop to enable me to do that. But my email address is on my profile page. :-)

In the mean time, I'll try and add it to my sidebar...

Yes maam, this beautiful dining room is so warm and inviting and it certainly feels like an original part of your cottage. Those windows are to die for. I just love them and they just complete the room seems to me. Such good food and fun games grace that table as well at times. You just have it all together with so much talent. God has surely blessed you with a wonderful family to gather around that table, the talent to make it happen, and the love to enjoy it. You are such a wonderful person and I love you!
