Our sweet son*in*law, Jent, brought this magnificent stack of wood to us from NEW MEXICO...
thanks so much, Jent..

I am pretty sure I enjoy MY fireplace more than anyone else in the whole wide world...
All kidding aside...it is such a luxury to me.
There's not much that soothes my soul like a big, roaring fire on a cold day ....
and, I DO like a BIG fire....
the bigger...the better !!

Nearly ALL books are good when read in front of a nice warm fire !!
Yep, I do love blogging while gazing into the fire..
I think I told you once, that my mom used to say if you stared at a fire, it would make you wet the bed!!
Hahahaha...I just love that !!

having a meal by the fireplace is just out of this world...
It can be a 4 course meal....or an afternoon snack of cookies and tea....

I told the story of my treasured and loved FRANKLIN FIREPLACE a long time ago but for those that missed it.
here 'tis again.......
*is responsible for the fireplace being in my living room.
*My mother bought this Franklin many, MANY years ago and Mr. Sweet Nothings installed it in HER living room. Mom's house (a very, very old one) was right next to a church and when she decided to sell, the church bought it. They intended making a parking lot on the property. THAT meant tearing down the house or moving it.
*
Mr. Sweet Nothings asked if we might remove the wood burner stove, repair the ceiling where the pipe went thru and he was given permission...so the work began before the moving or tearing down of the old house.
*Long story short...that fireplace sat in my garage for several years..just waiting for a good time to install it.
(Mr. Sweet Nothings worked away from home and only home on weekends for years)
*
*
One Christmas when David was in collage, married and pretty much BROKE all the time...called and said, "Mom, for your Christmas gift, how 'bout I install that Franklin ?" (shoot...I'm squalling, just writing about it).
*
*
He got it installed, did all the brick work, which he had never done before, and it has worked like a charm ever since. It is, by far, the most beautiful thing in my living room....
*See why I love my Franklin Fireplace so much ?
it's a LOVE thing !
*
Make your day warm.... and ... there's nothing warmer than love !

What a beautiful fireplace, BJ ... and what sweet memories tied to it.
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is a good one and you get to spend a lot of time curled up with one of those books by a big roaring fire.
Sincerely,
Janie
Fires, hot cocoa, snuggling in blankets, watching the snow fall and knowing I don't have to go outside, cuddling with Love Bunny - those are my reasons I love winter so much, chickee.......
ReplyDeleteSmooches,
Connie

BJ...I love your Franklin! What a beautiful job your son did in the installation,it looks like it has been there FOREVER! In my Moms Garage there is a beautiful old stove...I would love to restore it and put it in my home...you are inspiring me....Now if I could just find a place to put it! I love the Readers Digest books too...perhaps I shall grab one and rad by your fire...such a cozy post!
ReplyDeleteBJ , I love your Franklin stove too. The stove is beautiful and the story behind it is beautiful too. You have wonderful children and your lovely stories about them always makes me smile. Our fireplace is gas. I have never been happy with the small flames it puts out. We were told there are regulations and that is good as it gets. It's pretty, the fire is hot, but unimpressive. sigh.
ReplyDeleteI do love to sit by the fire when it's cold too. Love your post today.
Hugs...Jeanne
Good morning BJ
ReplyDeleteWe have been spending every evening around our fire...it has snowed here agin this week, a good 4 inches or so...and knowing I am coming home each evening to a warm den, newspaper, red wine, and the warm fire --gets you through this tough winter!
Well, I have never had breakfast in front of the fire..and i am off today from work and my hubby IS going in late--we may try it! :0)
Tara
PS_thanks for the cornbread recipe, I have never seen it done that way before...good thimg you are GRITS!
I am GRINY (Girl Raised in New York)...we know lots about restaurants! Haha!
You are too cute! I love your fireplace! I love a beautiful fire too (of course, I am a native North Carolinian). :o)
ReplyDeleteHave you read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers? Oh ... a wonderful love story!!! (Christian too.)
Have a blessed day and enjoy your fire!
Beth
I LOVE a fire in a fireplace, too! And I love the story about your fireplace...very touching!!
ReplyDeleteSaw you over at Connie's, so I came for a visit...and sat a spell by your fireplace.
~Blessings,
Jan
What a great story about the fireplace. I would love a fireplace but here in FL I just don't know if it would be worth it. How wonderful that you get to enjoy it so much.
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace looks so cozy & inviting! We have gas logs in ours & love it, but sometimes I would like to have the real thing.
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Carol
Can you imagine anything sadder than this: Our fireplace doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteI have asked for a working fireplace for Valentine's Day.
Your fireplace is lovely BJ....
ReplyDeleteI love sitting next to our fireplace. Ours is a gas fireplace. I would prefer a real log one, but my husband says he doesn't want to chop and haul the wood...neither do I :-). So we have a real log fireplace OUTSIDE in our courtyard. I guess I have the best of both worlds.
Love the story about your son gifting you the labor for Christmas. He sounds like a wonderful man.

I love your fireplace too! I don't have one in my house, but I have a spot where one used to be. It's an old house and when someone remodeled it, they took out the fireplace and put in central heat and air. I still have the brick hearth and long for the fireplace! I love the story about your son. My favorite gifts are when people make things for me. I know it was done with love, not just because they were "supposed" to give me a gift! So sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteI love a fire in a REAL fireplace too. We had a fireplace that my husband and son built in our last home, but when we moved into this house, there didn't seem to be the right spot for one. Ah well, I have my memories.
ReplyDeletePretty fireplace!! Thanks for your sweet compliments!! p.s.- sweet son!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about fireplaces BJ! It's just hard to move away from them when you need to.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were first married we used to sleep in front of the fireplace. (wink)
Your fireplace really IS beautiful!!! Perfect!!
ReplyDeleteLOVEABLE! ;-)
Monica
What a lovely post. We have covered our fire place over until the kids are bigger but then I am giving it a complete redo with new "old" brick instead of rocks and a brand new insert. I can't wait. Your post today was really nice. If you would want to have a really good Christian romance novel please leave your address on my e-mail and I would love to share it with you. I have been looking for someone to give it to.
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Friday!
Roberta Anne
that does it!!!! I want a fireplace! can you beleive that I have never had one in my lifetime? Nope....maybe that should be added to my list!
ReplyDeleteOh BJ, I'm so jealous. I love a fireplace. This is the first house I have ever lived in that didn't have one. I could do nothing but stare at a fire.
ReplyDeleteLove Ya,
Chris
Oooh, there's nothing like a roaring fire! I love to snuggle up in our family room by the fire. We have a convertible fireplace it is gas and wood burning. (Thanks to my Dad - I told you he is handy!) ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteI love fireplaces but alas, I do not have one. I try to find hotels with them when we travel to get my fp fix.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this cozy post very much!
BJ
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visits. It is a blogger gadget called Blog List. You can set it up to do all kinds of things and I love it.

BJ... I agree 100% that there is nothing as wonderful as a fire on a cold night or even cool night... We had 2 of them in our house (now they are Denise's) and I loved them when we could use them... (DUH! Florida) Now we enjoy many nights with a fire in the firepits while we travel and I still love the romantic feeling of them... I could sit by the fire forever... Yours is a magnificent fireplace and your son did an awesome job installing it...
ReplyDeleteLove Ya

Donna
I love winter, too, and don't even have a fireplace. Yours looks warm and cozy!! Have a great weekend. Sally
ReplyDeleteOh that is so sweet. I love the love behind the gift. No wonder you're all good with winter. Then again, if I had a stove like that, maybe I'd enjoy winter a little more, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you so much for visiting my blog yesterday during my SITS day. It was so much fun to see all the comments, and so many had such nice things to say. I hope you enjoyed yourself and come back to visit again soon!
BJ - I love your Franklin fireplace. David gave you a gift of love when he installed it. It must be even more wonderful knowing that it is from your mother's house. It is so cold here and I keep thinking how wonderful a real fire would be (our fireplace glows but it's electric). There is nothing like sitting in front of a wood fire.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sweetie
I love your fireplace, its beautiful. It makes me want to snuggle up to mine with a cup of coffee and a blanket !!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend :)
Hi BJ, How wonderful for your sweet son to install your wood burner for you! ...beautiful, cozy room! ~hugs, Rhonda :)
ReplyDeleteOh it is so beautiful...all fired up, toasty and warm. We have those racks, too. 4 of them actually 1/2 cord each and we go through that and more every winter and this has been some winter!!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with ya on this one, BJ. I, too, love my Franklin fireplace. It makes the house feel so warm and cozy. And when the firewood is stacked right outside the door...double pleasure.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything that makes a house feel more warm and cozy than a yummy fireplace? I don't think so! And it helps when your mantel looks as pretty as yours!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a real fireplace I'd probably spend all my time in front of it! Your's is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteManuela
I loved your stove story, bj. Stories to do with our kids, little or all grown up, get to me.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful stove with it's rich history must warm your heart as well as your toes on those cold winter days! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
my goodness I love your fire place and the story that goes with it . It looks so warm and cozy. I wish we had one but no room for it .
ReplyDeleteOh and I love the name David Keith and have since 1967 , ever since we named our youngest son David Keith . LOL LOL who've thought I'd get to know and love some one else that named her son David Keith .
