I DID TELL YA'LL I'M FROM TEXAS, DIDN'T I ??

I AM SOOOO sorry for not visiting you more often...these days of holidays have me running in circles and seems I have so much to get done...or, maybe it's there's so much I WANT to get done, by CHRISTMAS...
I know most of you are in the same shoes so just know that I think of you and I know you are busy just like me....We'll all get back into the swing of things after the first of the year....I love you all......

HO HO HO
FROM TEXAS

ANDI asked if we would post a map of our state and show where we lived....
Here is my state of TEXAS map...and LUBBOCK is right there in WEST TEXAS....

We wear lots of boots out here in the West...most especially the guys...
and my son, DAVID KEITH, owns a Boot and Hat shop here...
He is JUST like his daddy....so so good with his hands...makes the best lookin'
hats you ever saw !!

This is a little sign I saw once that I just had to get for his boot and shoe repair shop.....

DAVID has lots and lots of custom made Cowboy hats and gets more orders every year...
I, myself, don't own a western hat...I look more than dorky in any kind of hat!! NOW, Beautiful Daughter, on the other hand, looks just like a MILLION DOLLARS in every single hat she plops on her head....just amazing !!

Last Halloween, daughter, STACY and hubby, JENT, dressed as a working cowboy and his saloon hall gal...
JENT didn't have to look far for that pair of worn chaps he's wearing...nor that cowboy hat ! OH, MY...he did make a HANDSOME COWBOY and STACY....what a beauty!!

This is a scene that is common on the outskirts of LUBBOCK...
Mr. Sweet Nothings and I live slap dab in the middle of the city, tho...
We are city folk !! tee hee

As you probably know, we do grow a LOT of cotton out this way....

and, we do grow a LOT of COWBOYS out here, too....
yes,'mam....we sure do....

and here is the one I GREW !!
Yes siree....that fella with his feet in the air...riding that BULL that has all HIS feet off the ground....
that's MY BOY....
He rode bulls all thru high school and was so good at it, he won a SCHOLARSHIP to college....
PROUD PROUD PROUD
SCARED SCARED SCARED
when he rode, I wouldn't miss a rodeo but I did keep my EYES CLOSED TIGHT until I heard,
"Ladies and gentlemen, this cowboy rode and is safely off that ton of bull".....
oh, and there were times when he wasn't SAFELY off...broken arm a couple of times but
nothing ever very serious...THANK YOU, GOD for not closing YOUR eyes!!! <><

TEXAS....
I know we are all proud of the state we live in but "ain't nobody" any prouder than I am!!!
Yep, this is the land of
BIG HAIR....
LONE STAR BEER...
WORDS LIKE "ya'll" and "fixin to" and "heck fire" and "just give me a hollar"...
COWBOY HATS and COWBOY BOOTS...
and I wouldn't change a thing (well, except for dust storms and tornadoes)

*

*

Most likely, no where but in TEXAS would you find a groom, dressed in a magnificent WHITE TUX and shoes and....his BIG, BLACK COWBOY HAT !!!
:O)

Daughter, STACY LEIGH and JENT, on their wedding day, 20 years ago...

OH, BUT.....AIN'T HE A HANDSOME DUDE !!!....and we do love him to pieces!

love to all, bj, from TEXAS

Oh my goodness BJ sweetie, I enjoyed this post ever so much! I had to laugh at Jent wearing a cowboy hat to his wedding because my husband's family come from outback Australia and they too wear their cowboy hats to their weddings. Yes ma'am we do too! lol Wishing you a wonderful week dear friend!

Oh.. Cowboys & Custard would feel very much at home here Bj...
My eldest brother brought me back some fabulous vintage cowboy ephemera from his trip to the States this year..
I keep dreaming that I might make it to the good Ol U S of A next year.. maybe maybe..
Sorry no sign of Mr Depp or Cage.. I might just take a walk in to town and try a bit of star gazing for you..
Much love
so good to hear from you..
It's been kind of busy here but I haven't forgotten you!

Morning BJ, Great post, as usual. I lived all over Texas as a child, my Dad worked on oil wells.Never went to a rodeo though until we lived in WY. I do remember though when you broke down and bought a new hat, it was like part of your life.Atleast my Dad never went anywhere without it. LOL

Love Ya,
Chris

Mornin BJ, I loved reading about your Texas pride!! The closest I ever got to Texas is Kansas, I was born there and all my moms family is still there, of course my dad had to move us to NJ of all places LOL! Hubby has a nephew who looked just like your s-i-l at his wedding, I guess he thought he was a cowboy! LOL! Have a great day sweetie! xoxo

Oh BJ!!! This is the best post ever!!! I'm coming back to read some more when I come in from work tonight!!!

Love your bull rider boy...amazing!

My nieces are due East of you in Dallas...but since Texas is a big state that's a ways from you.

I enjoyed this post, BJ ...

When we lived in Shreveport (for five years), I was able to explore a lot of the little towns in the northeast and north central areas of Texas, and just love it. My favorites were Jefferson, Marshall, Longview, Canton, and Tyler.

I miss being able to go to the Canton Flea Market ... it's just too far from Vicksburg, where I live now.

I have never been to Texas, but all those chaps wearing cowboys make me think I need to make the trip, lol. I would be scared to death to have a child riding a bull in the rodeo, how did you survive it!?

Cute post, BJ!

I've been runnin' around like the chicken with it's head cut off, since before Thanksgiving, so I know what you're talking about.

I love all the Texas/Family photos. Being Half Texan, I know why you're proud.

Our son in law wore J's big ol' hat at their wedding in 1996. It was a western wedding and we all wore something to do with cowboys, including boots. Of course J has been a cowboy all his life, well cattleman, so he's worn boots most of his life, too.

Loved this post!

Well, howdy there, Ms. BJness! Ya'll knows I'm from Texas too! But your more Texas than me down here on the outskirts! Used to live in old Odessa - way out west - and I really felt your post today. My Daddy was 6feet tall and wore his boots and hats!! He's in Heaven now and I'm sure he's telling Jesus how he loved working in the oil fields! Your beautiful daughter looks like you!
Be the sweetest,
Shelia ;)

What a great tribute to Texas; I can see why you're proud.

Jent - isn't that just the perfect cowboy name?? I think I live in the west, but there isn't anything like the Texas west. We are more tree hugging, mountain west in Colorado; even though, my pioneer ancesters were cowboys. Have a great day. Sally

I have driven through, visited, touched down at an airport in Texas a few times. Thanks for reminding me of that. Somewhere is Texas is where we lost our tent poles on our trip in 1990. But did not notice until the next time we camped which was in Ada, Oklahoma. We already paid the fee in the box in the KOA campground started to unload the tent and poles and things and voila , NO POLES. Oh dear what to do. Can't get a refund so we better stay there. We slept on top of the tent, but it was too hot to be inside the sleeping bags. But I was nervous with my feet out in the open, worried about critters nibbling on my toes. Needless to say, I got hardly any sleep that night. My hubby did though. Good thing, cuz I was too tired the next day to help with anything. Snooozed my way through Oklahoma City and on into Kansas. Oh we did eventually get new tent poles for future camping trips. Thanks for the memories.

Hi bj, I'm maryt from Ruby Tuesday! Glad to get to know ya from your great and informative post! I didn't put up Mr. Linky this week because there was a lot of trouble with it. So all you have to do to join is post a Ruby Tuesday post on your blog and then in a comment on my RT post say your post is up. And people will come and visit you! A Ruby Tuesday post has to be your own photo with a little or a lot of RED in it! :)

BJ - what a wonderful post. I love the hats and the boots. In our area of Pennsylvania it isn't unusual to see a guy with a great looking hat and boots. Of course, the boots are either hunting boots or work boots. Hubby used to have a cowboy hat that he wore in the winter. The picture of the working cowboy and saloon hall girl are great! I'll have to scan and post the picture hubby and I got taken on the Wildwood Board Walk. He was a gun slinging cowboy and I was a salon girl. Is their a song about Lubbock, Texas?
Hugs,
Sweetie

Ya'll sure do grow some cute cowboys over there in Texas! LOL
Girl, since I'm based in Dallas I see lots of big hair. Yeah, somebody needs to tell some of those girls about thinning shears. WHOA!! Our best friends live in Celina so I consider myself part Texan and I've never met a texan I didn't like.

Oh BJ this was such a wonderful post... I really enjoyed reading all about you & your family in Texas... When I was 13 I worked a rodeo for the summer...pushed the calves out for roping... didn't care just wanted to be near the action... I am telling you I do love the cowboys... I always asked my boss when he traveled to Texas to bring me back a cowboy... Never got one... Have a great Wednesday

What a great post!
I look good in a hat... but I lost my only one in the tornado (I'd like to do away with those in Kansas, too!)
We are starting to see a lot of cotton grown in Kansas, too... unheard of just 20 years ago...

Some day I may make it to Texas! :)

BJ, I love this post. It was so much fun reading about your state. I a familiar with the saying "don't mess with Texas". ;-)

You taught me a lot. I didn't know they grow cotton in Texas. I think it looks so cool in the fields. My mother tells me she hated picking cotton when she was a little girl - she said it hurt her fingers. Now technology has taken that hardship away.

Oh BJ, I love it, I think I was born to be a cowgirl and hubby was definitely born to be a cowboy. That's what I call him "my cowboy". Have you seen our vintage western family room? I will have to post pics of it again.

Hugs,
LeAnn:)

Bj, your post today is priceless. I was so into reading your wonderful text, my dh just told me he can't communicate with me when I am on the computer. LOL. He was right. Your photos tell a story all by themselves. I was so impressed with your son's bull ride. Wow!!! I adore his wedding pic too. Love that hat. My sister lived in Texas several years and we visited your great state many times. It was fun to see the map.

Love you gal, come over and give me a holler for the give-a-way.

Hugs...Jeanne

BJ, I just read your comment to Jeanne. And, now I know one other thing that happens in Texas. ;-)

Don't worry, it happens here, too. Sometimes even on hump day.

Well, I didn't know your son owned a shop. I think I know which one and will certainly take him my business from now on. We do love us some cowboy and cowgirl duds around the garden hat place.

This was so much fun to read and see. Your children are so good looking. I never knew anybody who lived in Tex, who didn't think it was the most wonderful place in the world. My sister lived there for awhile, and within a month after the move, you would have thought she had grown up in Tex, the way she was bragging about it. It is a fun place. laurie

I so enjoyed this post dear BJ!
You are always such fun to read and never fail to bring me a smile!

It's okay to be away from blogging 'cause you are busy with life!! We understand that! I have been a neglectful blogger and terrible blog visitor of late. : (

Now I was not born in TX and don't live there now but we were stationed in Corpus Christi for 2 years in the early 80s. Does that count at all?? I had cowboy boots and even went to Gilly's im Houston just after Urban Cowboy was filmed there. *grin*
