WHAT'S COOKIN' AT...........

my something PINK for OCTOBER BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
*******************************************************************************
WELCOME TO BJ'S
*************************************
I just had to show you these
bj cafes and such.....
**********************
while i wouldn't call even ONE of these places
CLASSY.....
i do bet there is a WHOLE LOT OF FUN, laughing, drinking, eating, joking...
just plain LIVIN' going on
at these ADORABLE places named
BJ

pretty sure this one is more of a BAR than an eating establishment...
I mean...the lights are pretty LOW and I see bar stools.....
wonder if BJ is a male or female.... wonder if it makes any difference !!

ummmm..."WELCOME BIKERS".... look at those neat BIKES.... bet this is a fun place, too......especially if you are a biker and can meet up with your biking buddies here, visit, laugh, have a great meal...all under one roof !

i have always wanted to ride on one of these babies...take a long trip on one. my sweet son*in*law just got home from a wonderful trip, all the way from West Texas to someplace in OREGON....had the BEST time and saw some amazing, beautiful country.

oops...don't think this is a CAFE but looks like a neat place to buy
ANTIQUES ! wooo hoooo !!
there for a minute, i thought the sign said
"bj is an oldie"
and i was fixing to get ready to RUMBLE !!

OK......this is the same one in that other photo but it has gotta be my favorite one...just take a look at those benches out front...
it's got a little porch and everything...
it's name is JUST RIGHT...
bj's cafe and sweet shop ...
i can almost see BJ coming out through that screen door with her APRON on, flour on the side of her nose, smilin' big and
carrying a hugh plate of
HOT BISCUITS out to that fella standing on the PORCH.....
wonder if he got left behind by those BIKERS that were there awhile back??
might even have some FRIED GREEN TOMATOES in there !!
and a PIE or TWO...homemade, OF COURSE!!
YUMMY !!
**********************************************************
bj COOKS...

i did a little cooking today, too...

WELL....i did these a few weeks back...
I stuck a few back in zip lock bags in the FREEZER...SO, if the old SWEET TOOTH strikes, I'll be ready!!

YEP, and this is that VANILLA CREME PIE that I use a recipe that is over 100 years old...
BILL'S mom made this often so every time I make one,
the whole time Bill and I are stuffing bites into our over-filled mouths,
we are sad !!!!! (aren't we just awful !!) ;O(

just because it's COOKED AT HOME doesn't have to mean hours in that ole kitchen...
my favorite person on FOOD NETWORK......
SANDRA LEE !
way to go, Sandy !!

every once in awhile, i run out of BISCUIT MIX
or CANNED BISCUITS
and am FORCED to do the
'all the way from SCRATCH'
routine....
BILL and i LOVE biscuits for breakfast...
with butter and jelly, or syrup, or honey, or gravy...
GOOD GRIEF !!

but, if they are from scratch or from a mix, next time you make them,
throw a handful of grated CHEDDAR into the mix....
SOOOOO good...

yep, these tasted mighty good...

especially with THIS !!!!
******
molasses is SO FINE...
i ALWAYS keep mine in the FRIDGE...i love it COLD AND THICK AND....JUST RIGHT !
never, ever WARM and THIN...HUH UH, never !!

going to a church fellowship get-together tonight so....

gotta make A CAKE....
i remembered SANDRA LEE here and did her proud by using
A CAKE MIX !!

WITH A FUDGE ICING, ......OF COURSE !!
i know i ALWAYS show you this FUDGE...just can't help myself...
while I am licking the BEATERS, the SPOON, the PAN and the SPOON REST...
i get the mental picture of all of YA'LL
LICKING YOUR COMPUTER SCREENS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i put PECANS in almost every sweet thing i bake........
we have a HUGH PECAN TREE in our front yard and it is so loaded with nice pecans that the branches are drooping almost to the ground...had to cut off a few limbs for fear they would break.
OH, BOY...
we are going to have tons of good, ole pecans to cook with at THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS .
.......cakes, pies, candies, fruit salads...just to name a few of the things PECANS just make even better!!
oh, i know there's people on the planet that don't like the taste of nuts....
beats me, tho!!

i just poked holes in the warm cake with the handle of a wooden spoon, poured this
CHOCOLATE GOLD
all over it and.....
now I have to WAIT until tonight to have a piece of it !!

Here's my tree...the metal on the trunk is to keep the squirrels OUT...we have a LOT of squirrels in this neighborhood (lots of pecan trees around), and they cut all the pecans off, leaving us with NONE....plus, the mess in the yard is terrible ! They do get plenty of the pecans that fall, tho, and they scurry around all over the place, looking for good places to bury a few.....the tree is just loaded with the biggest, best-looking pecans we've had in YEARS....

BLESSINGS, bj

NEVER MIND WHAT THIS SAYS...That lady looks a whole lot like ME...RELAXING right out in the middle of the SEA....well,maybe her hair IS a little darker...and maybe I don't look NEAR, NOT EVEN CLOSE that good in a swim suit.....but, I've got a hat...well, a CAP and, guess what it says on it? "GOT WINE".....

What a cute post, BJ ... all that good looking food just made my mouth water -- especially the chocolate cake!

It was fun seeing all the "BJ places," too.

Take care, my friend ...

Sincerely,

hey BJ, too sweet with your comments on my blog, thank you so much :-) I am sooooo glad you like my blog

LOVE all the BJ places, do you know how much I would like to visit those with ya? I have a lifelong ambition to visit real American diners...on a trip to New York a few years ago, our very New York-ish friend tried to fulfill my dream, she failed spectacularly...I wanted raw and real and ya know...but got a kinda themed affair...anyway so i really enjoyed your pics and studied those joints haha!

great post

What a fun idea for a post. I love all of the BJs.

I wish I had a huge pecan tree in my yard. Pecans make everything better.

Oh my goodness! I think I gained a few pounds just looking! Yummy. I'm not a molasses girl but my husband loves it on biscuits.

Are you packing your bags yet? We will miss you!

BJ, I had so much fun reading your post today. You have magic when you are writing girl. The 'BJ' food joints are a blast. And then the biscuits, cakes, etc. You are killing me this morning. I have to eat a boring bowl of 'fiber' ugh cereal. I have to sign off now before I go to cardiac arrest wanting that good eats.

Love you, Jeanne

SmilingSally said...

Well, I can easily see why you look JUST like her!

Maybe you should think about opening up a BJs.

A girl after my heart,CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE and more CHOCOLATE. You are so lucky to have a pecan tree right in your yard. It cost a fortune to buy them, then you wonder if they are this year's crop. One of our next stop's will be near Plains, GA. I'll be sure to load up again like I did last year.

Hugs,
Chris

Hi BJ...You must have heard me laugh over you getting ready to 'rumble'...what a picture I conjured up..Did you see the movie "Wild Hogs" where 4 guys go on a road trip on their hogs? Hilarious... I got all excited about the tin around your pecan tree and showed my DH until he reminded me that our dang squirrels are airborne most of the time and fly from tree to tree or off the house to our tree...Grrr!
Thanks for another hoot of a post..
Hugs, ;-) Bo

TO SUZY...I hope you come back to read this or someone else might tell you...for the last month, every time I go to your space, the words of your postings appear and before I can even read them, they go away. I can't understand what is happening..and wonder if it is something I am doing. I haven't had this problem with any other sites so I'm just not sure.
love, bj

Oh BJ, When you was talking about your pecan tree in the yard...I was thinking I wish she would show a picture of it, and low and behold, as I went on down there it was! We use to have a HUGE pecan tree when I was a little girl...I know everything seems huge when your litlle, but it was, we even had a tree house in the top of it, with a ladder going up the tree, oh my, you have sparked my memory. I remember having to pick up ALL the pecans that would fall to the ground...we would have bags and bags of pecans. Lord, they were so good! Well, I guess you can tell I have enjoyed this post. Sorry to take up so much time! Hope you have a great everning! Nancy

Oh, I'm back again...I meant to tell you I loved all the BJ places! I lost my train of thought over those pecans...LOL

I think my sugar count shot up just looking at all these lovely confections! Yum yum!!! I love the idea of a pecan tree in the yard. Lucky you! I don't blame you for wanting to put them in everything you bake. Bet you make the best pecan pies!

Have a great time on your cruise! You deserve it!

This is a fun post. The food sure looks good. What you said about the bikers made me think of my friend Connie who writes the Down on the Farm blog. Years ago when her husband was alive they rode motorcycles from Connecticut to California with two little kids even. It was interesting to hear about their adventures.
It's interesting that you recognized the little kids in the sculptures that I posted as being done by someone you were familiar with. I wish those things weren't so expensive, I'd have some in my back yard.

Look at all those neat eating places with your name on them. Small world isn't it, and I'll bet they all have good food as I can tell BJ is a very good cook.

Well you've been cooking up a storm...I guess it's ok because soon you'll be lounging on a chair on a ship in the ocean and having someone else do all your cooking! And you'd be so darn proud of me. I actually took a recipe from Nancy's blog the other night and made dinner! Thats right...you heard correct...I made dinner and my hubby came in the door and about dropped over in a dead faint. lol...and the best part was....it WAS MIGHTY TASTY! See I have a itty bitty homemaking diva in me after all...next thing you know I'll start collecting plates!
