ONE of my favorite thrift store finds......

HAPPY 8/8/08 DAY
IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A VERY "LUCKY" DAY
GOOD LUCK TO ALL MY SWEET FRIENDS
************************
***********************************************************
is hosting such a fun party about our
FAVORITE (at the moment) THRIFT STORE FINDS

I, as usual, am a little late with my entry but I wanted to join in anyway...

When I found this vintage, pine fireplace and mantle, I just about had a complete breakdown,
right there in the thrift store.
I had wanted one FOREVER but could never afford the money it would take to buy one.
They are soooo INSTANT character to any room in the house and I especially had always wanted
A VINTAGE ONE.....
Well, when I saw the PRICE on it....
my MENTAL BREAKDOWN went into the next mode...
UTTER
blubbering

I couldn't believe that it was only $50.00

FIFTY DOLLARS !

I just about ripped my purse all to pieces, getting that $50.00 out of it....

(all the time, I am pretty sure I was passing GAS)

I added the beautiful, wooden
APPLIQUE

and the
BULLSEYE pieces to each side

This piece is in my dining room and it just adds so much to a plain, vanilla room....

I am very proud of it and doubt that I will ever find another piece I love as much as this one;

especially for the fabulous PRICE !!

Thanks so much for

LOOKING...

If you come see me, I MIGHT even let you

TOUCH !!

Much love, bj

************************

BE SURE to stop by RHODA'S and see HER beautiful FIND...

and take a look at all the others listed, too.
There's lots and lots of beautiful things to see....
and all for a price we LOVE !

I love the mantel; and of course, the RD Condensed Books on it! The RD books are always my favorite yard sale find, especially at a nickel a piece. Sally

Oh, my goodness, bj, I laughed right out loud at your cuteness in this post! I could just see you digging in that purse, getting that $50 before someone else beat you to your mantle. A beautiful mantle, btw. Love it!

I'm looking for a heavy block of wood, up to 70" long or so, from which to make a mantle for our fireplace. Keep that trusty eye out, k?

What an incredible find.. we ran across one of those "great" deals about 6 years ago and now I use it in my shop as a display piece.. it has been a gathering spot for many a conversation..a couple of years ago the original owner came in, recognized it right away broke down and cried and told us the story of where it was in the home she grew up in.. I think of her each time I look at it now..

HA! BJ, you crack me up! I'm the same way when I find that "thing" I've been looking for at a great price...can't get my purse open fast enough! I would love to have a fireplace in my dining room...but it's a bit tight in there on space. Yours looks great! Instant ambience! :-)

What an incredible find! I too dream of finding an affordable fireplace mantle someday, whether I ever get a fireplace or not! I would have begged or borrowed to get $50 for that mantle!

My son heard me laughing in hysterics and asked me what was so funny. I read him your passing gas remark. He said that he is always passing gas and that the church no longer lets him come to candlelight services. Hehehehe!

You are a gal after my own heart! I love your fireplace surround--it looks wonderful in your diningroom and your embellishments just make it even better! What a special find. I'd been looking for one to put in my (hold on here) entryway! We have an odd hall (I think), with a long, blank wall on each side (about 7feet wide) and I just couldn't find furniture that looked right and I knew I didn't want to line the walls with pictures--so I came up with the fireplace surround idea. I recently found one! Right now it's leaning on one of the LOOOONG walls, waiting for someone to tweek it a bit so it fits over the molding just right. I can hardly wait until it is finished! Loved your thrifty find!!

I can just imagine your excitement when you found such a great deal! It looks fabulous!

I'm hoping to find one for my oldest dd. We want to use it as a headboard for her full size bed.

Hello BJ! I'm new here (over from Little Red House) and am really having fun at your site! Thrifting makes me very happy because I am giving a home to a misplaced object and not giving the money to the Big Box store! Your find here of the fireplace suround is wonderful...and your description just brings such a smile to my face..your writing is fun, fun! I'll be back to check out more.

Peace and smiles to you.

Hello BJ How did I not see this fireplace. It is beautiful. I bought my first fireplace from JC Penneys for $300. I wanted a fireplace just like you, but no bargain for me. sigh. That fake fireplace has been in a room in our house, even after I finally had a new real one. Mmmmm it has been sine 1985. Your vintage fireplace is a great find.

Love and hugs, Jeanne

Oh, BJ ... You had me literally laughing out loud picturing you "ripping your purse apart" to pay for the mantel. I know that feeling so well.

Your mantel is just beautiful and the trim added so much personality to it. The day you found it was certainly your lucky day.

Hope your weekend is good. Take care ...

Love it , love it , love it!!!! My favorite find was mine that I put in my bedroom from a garage sale. I asked them how much they wanted and they said, Oh...how about $10? I was also flabbergasted..was ready to hand her my $100 bill, and I said, "Sold, but I have to give you at least $20 for it....She cracked up! She said that was the first time that someone had haggled her up on a price!...LOL
I am sooo happy for you! It looks beautiful in your room and I love the little details you added.
