A CHANGE FOR SUMMER

I love summer and I love changing things around in my cottage to make it a little LIGHTER looking....

and a little easier to care for.....

SO....

I've been moving things AROUND.......

in my living room.....

moving things OUT..........
and replacing things for the SUMMER.....
Our wood burning stove is so "out in the open" in the living room, that I am trying to make it less "wintry" and more "summery" but I'm not sure what else I can do to keep it from looking HEAVY in the room !!??!!

I mean...IT'S THERE... FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE....

It's not going anywhere...

and I do love this ole woodburner, in the winter

Just trying to give it some SUMMER cuteness...

I've changed out a few things on the mantle...added a fresh color of YELLOW in the faux lemons in my jar instead of the candle with animal print ribbon on it....

And, added my new little precious picture from DUDA DAZE, which I just LUV....

I use CALENDER ART in my wall frames and I put the summery flowers instead of SNOW and MOUNTAINS.......

Hey, it just dawned on me...maybe I can change the frames out to creme colored ones with black mats or even white mats.... for a new, lighter look.....hmmmmmm ok.....

I painted my vintage shutters on either side of the stove from BLACK to

OREGANO

(I just love that name for PAINT...)

(I have a hutch and a loveseat in this same green family)

I don't have a pretty summery fireplace screen so I just keep the doors on the wood burner closed and, right now, I have just stacks of books and the magazines there.

Sometimes, I use flowers, and candle sticks....
I have a GREAT, really old tin CEILING TILE that I would like to prop up in front of these doors...but, it has really rough, jagged edges and I'm afraid to use it there.

Maybe I can sand the edges a little?

I've put MOST of the blankets and throws away for the summer...

We still like cuddling under one in the evenings, tho, so this claret one stays out all year 'round!

(Great Scott ! I sure need to change those 3 orangey candles there...creme would look so much better....what's wrong with me?...actually they look worse in the picture than in the room)

ok...that's creme candles and creme picture frames.....

(all this talk of CREME is making me hungry for Strawberry Shortcake !)

I put away all the darker pillows......

and moved some pieces and small furniture OUT for the season...
Come cold weather, I will probably start "layering" again.....

but for now, I like the spaciousness and uncluttered look for summer.....
(i know some of you think it is STILL a little cluttered with all those plates on the wall but ...

I LOVE those plates and like looking at them...)
(SWEET MAN always breaths a sigh of relief when I "thin" things out a little...
men just LOVE open spaces..have you noticed?)
**********

I'm on my way to buy frames and candles so ...
see ya soon.....
Happiness,
bj
I'll be away for a couple of days...

Hi BJ,

Thanks for stopping by to check out my old door. The project really did turn out well!

Now, about your door. I think one of your readers had a good idea about stenciling on it. I think a neat swirly stencil would be just the ticket. I would run it off the sides and all over, not create a border or anything. Just a pattern to serve as your background. And not tiny swirls either, but bigger ones, so it would look like wallpaper. The trick would be what paint color to use, and I would say to keep it very tone on tone with what you have. A little darker, but maybe with some sheen to the paint for some contrast that way. Have you ever seen wallpaper where the background is dull, but the pattern is shiny? That's what I'm thinking.

The Nester had a door with panels like yours and she painted the skinny rectangles around the panels a different color. That is another option too, if you don't want to do all the work I just mentioned!

I just love your living room, it is so cozy and pretty:>) What about a nice big floral arrangment on the stove? Either on the lower shelf in front of the doors or on top? Greenery? If you cant sand the edges of the ceiling tile can you find a frame to go around it so the sharp edges are covered?

Girl, you have been accomplishing great things over there. I am a firm believer that we all benefit from a bit of sprucing up now and then.

Great job. Have fun shopping.

Hi BJ,
Your home is so inviting. I love the color on your shutters. It's perfect! In the Spring and Summer months I put plants in pretty pots, a white birdcage, birdhouses, etc. on my hearth to hide and 'summerize' my fireplace. I'll have to show a picture on my blog one of these days.

BJ - I love the changes you have made - one of the first things I noticed when I started reading your blog months ago was the black shutters inside your house - I have told several friends about those - I think those are just stunning!!

Your home is lovely. I love to decorate with plates. They started in the kitchen and dining room but they have migrated all over the house! I even have an antique fish plate in the bathroom.

Okay BJ you have inspired me to lighten up by livingroom too. Yours looks so pretty. Of course my husband groaned when he came home to find I had rearranged the livingroom but lightening it would just effect the feeling of the room right?? lol Take care dear BJ.

Hi BJ
I haven't been by for a visit in awhile so I have a lot of catching up to do! I like what you did to lighten things up for spring. Rearranging and thinning out stuff is almost as good as getting new (well not really!!)
Since you're going to be away that will give me a chance to catch up on all the posts I've missed.
Hugs, Rhondi

Your home is very lovely and cozy. Great pictures, I have lost my desire for the country look, so I have also been making changes in my home. Clearing out clutter and bold colors.
New season in my life. Your country look is gorgeous. Thanks for opening your home to us:)
