SATURDAY THRIFTING ~

Don't forget to stop by DEENA'S at CAN I BE PRETTY IN PINK and share your joy of the day with her.
****************************************

After leaving a granddaughter's basketball game Saturday morning, we stopped at a new GOODWILL store to see if they had anything that I just couldn't live without......and, sure enuf......THEY DID !! I just fell in love with this little copper WELCOME FRIENDS plaque....and I love the "good luck" pineapple on it.

And, it had a mate ! This one has a kitty, a basket of fruit, a sweet cottage and a welcoming wreath.

Aren't they so precious... I am wondering now if I want to keep the copper color or how would they look, painted a creamy white with a dark glaze wash ? Would they look good...like ceramic? Or, would I ruin a cute pair of plaques??? They were only $2.00 apiece but I like them so much and if I paint and they look terrible, I will be soooo mad at myself. Decisions, decisions!!!!! :) Aren't you as amazed as I am about how one person is so sick of or just doesn't like a certain thing, gives it to GOODWILL, someone else comes along and is just totally in love with that same item? How fun it all is.......

For $2.00, I couldn't resist this 3 tier hanging wicker thingy. What in this world am I going to do with it? When I first saw it, I could just see it painted creamy white and filled with all the pretty, fabric hearts I could get in it. What do ya think? Or, would that look goofy? NAWH.....I just know it would make a knock-out piece. I already have some hearts to get it started...and I am thinking I know just the place to hang it....NOW...gotta get MORE hearts!! :) And some great fabric fragrance to spray on the hearts....Ummmmmm!! If anyone has a good idea, would you let me know?
Now, this was my favorite find of the day. I am sure it is very old...the glass is starting to turn the color that older glass does and it is such thick glass. It was also $2.00 and I can't imagine someone not wanting it any more. I always wonder about older objects like this ending up in a thrift store. I guess some of MY things will find their way to other peoples houses someday...well....that's ok. In fact, that's a GOOD thing. Maybe they will be thrilled to find one of my treasured items and hurry home with it to display....that thought makes me smile. Of course, with so many grandchildren, a daughter and a daughter*in*law, they all get first dibs !!!! :) I don't believe in making them wait until I "pass", tho. If they mention they like it, it goes home with them that very day.
There's so many things I can do with this.... and I would love to fill it with colored marble easter eggs...or a birdnest....or this colorful, ceramic fruit from Mexico or.......... filled to the very tip top with...CHOCOLATE !!! :0)

I think the little square, glass knob on top makes it look so regal. I am such a goof ball about dishes, I'll swear. They actually seem to talk to me sometimes. I guess if I start talking back to them, it will be time to tweak my meds!! :)

Oh....and I've been having great luck finding large, covered jars lately. I just adore them...I got this one with the great wooden top for $1.00 and it makes a fabulous cookie jar. I am trying to fill up my little metal shelves I have in the breakfast area ...once it is full of these great jars, I'll show you. I am loving that each jar is different. I have one that I won at a Bunco party that came from Dollar General store...it has a silver colored screw-on top and I wasn't real impressed. Then, on someone's blog, I noticed they had spray painted their metal top in red and tied an adorable ribbon on it and had it filled with something delicious and it made all the difference in the world. Isn't paint just amazing!!

The bad part of it all ? I just got home from thrifting and I already am planning another trip......real soon!! What's wrong with me?!!

Gotta go now...I'm on my way to buy a can of RED spray paint !!!!! Oh, yes....and some RED ribbon !!! :)

HAPPY DAY!!

Now, aren't you the lucky one to find such out standing items at Goodwill. A bargain to say the least on all of them.

Pricing was so reasonable on all of the items.

OH!! I love everything you bought. That's funny about the coverd jars because that has bee the first thing I look for when I go goodwilling or to TJmaxx I just love them. What a wonderful grandma you are to just give it to them if they want it. That is how I want to be with mine.Although I don't think my grandson's will say grandma can I please have the pretty table cloth!! But it they did it's there's. I am trying to buy more lines and things like that so my grandaughter will have more to choose from. Her other grandma is just tho oppasite from me. She is a nice lady but she is not the homing type doesn't like to garden or bake or next. So she has to learn it all from me. I am sure the other grandma can teach her things that I won't be able to. like her she should put her tactoo. ( OH I AM SO SORRY ) Did I say that out loud!!My own daughter has a tactoo I am not against them at all but it is just kinda sad to me sometimes.
Oh about your copper plaque's do you have anything you can practice on that you don't like as much but it's copper? Or go to the thrift store again and see if they have something eles in copper just to practice on. Good luck. Or even try it on the back of one. Show us pictures if you do paint.

Good Morning BJ,
Oh my goodness, I love all of your Goodwill Treasures you found. I have always heard that someone's trash is someone's treasure. Now me personally, I like the copper look in itself. Makes it look more antiquish. The glass cake platter and cookie jar are just beautiful as well. I do like your little wicker hanger thingy. It would be pretty painted and put some hearts in it. I sure wish we had some Goodwill Stores around here, but I've not seen any. I'll just keep oooohing and aaaawing over everyone else's finds. "THANK YOU" for sharing them with us. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

All your things are lovely but my favorite is the tiered baskets. I've been wanting something like that but hesitated because our ceilings are too high...a "ta da" moment was seeing them in this picture hanging from a bracket...BRILLIANT!

Have a great day!

You have put me in the mood to visit the Good Will Stores. You found a lot of amazing things!

Three years ago I popped into one of those stores and found some really nice things. I need to get back into the habit. Thank you for posting your finds.

What fun thigs to find:>) I have the junking itch and can't wait for spring and the really good garage and estate sales. They all go away over the winter here where it's cold and I am so ready! I hit a thrift store once in a while but haven't really found anything spectacular the last few times. I dont think I would paint the molds, if yu fell inlove with them just as they are doesn;t that mean that is how you like them?

Hi BJ, some great finds you got there. Now if it was me, I would be painting the plaqes, but I know what you mean worrying about ruining them. I have a hanging basket thingy too, it's red wire, and I've been wondering what to put in, I love your idea of hearts.
hugs and kisses,

BJ,

I just love all your thrift store finds. That jar will look fantastic with the lid painted red and a ribbon added.

I have been itchin' to get to the thrift stores myself, but something always seems to happen to put it off. Now with Michelle recovering, I am up to my ears in busy. So it will be a while, but I am going to get there.

Blessings,
Mary
