MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH BOOKS AND BOOKENDS

There's just not a whole lot better activity to do than a nice pot of tea, a snack, and.....A WONDERFUL BOOK. I do love reading....such a good escape from the humdrum of every day life. I, like you, I'm sure, can get so lost and "into" a book that I don't hear the phone ring, the door bell chime or someone calling my name.

I love browsing thru book stores, thrift stores and garage sale boxes...and I also LOVE BOOKENDS.....

I even like my LITTLE GIRL, READING statue....

"......and the flag was still there...."

Aren't these bookends great! I found them at Goodwill for just a few dollars and fell in love with their heaviness.

I apologize for posting these so many times but.....what can I say? They are my absolute favorites. One thing is that they remind me so much of my kids and grand kids playing Hide and Seek....

These I got at Kirklands for $14.95 and have never regretted it. They are smile makers.

These came from a garage sale...at $2.00 for the pair, I snapped them up.

These are wooden A B C book ends....they were yellow and used in a childs room. I just painted them black and they hold paperback books really well...

I like these sea shell ones...can't even remember where I got them but it was a thrift store find.

Goodwill had these brass duck ends.....I thought about spray painting them but they looked ok as is so.........

The two red books on each end.....ceramic bookends. Pretty cool....

You've probably seen my clear glass rooster bookends before. I really have enjoyed these. My sweet cousin gave them to me years ago.

I DO LOVE BOOKS...I also love this large, wall book shelf that I found at a thrift shop one day a couple of years ago and nearly had a heart attack before I could get it paid for, hauled to my house, painted and secured onto my wall. I had dreamed of a whole wall of bookcases and now....I'VE GOT IT. Nearly all of my books have come from thrift stores, as well. I love the condensed Readers Digest stories and thrift stores are just full of them for 25 cents apiece.

You can click on the picture for enlargement to see some of the kinds of books I like...mostly fiction, I'm afraid. DANIELLE STEEL is my hero writer !! :)

Ahhhhh, take me away, Danielle.....

HAPPY DAY !

Good Morning BJ,
Oh my goodness, what some beautiful bookends you have. I really love the Crystal Rooster bookends. I love anything with Crystal. Those brass ducks are just fine the way they are. I wouldn't paint them either. It would take away from their look. You do have quite a collection of books there. "THANK YOU" for sharing your books and bookends with us. The other night when our power was off, I had a small lamp plugged up into one of those thingys that you can use when the power is off and I was reading a book then. The battery on the thingy went low, so I had to turn the lamp off and quit reading. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

I love books as well. My mother tells me that when I was younger if I had a book and a Dr. Pepper she wouldn't hear from me for hours. Books are my escape from the world.
Your bookcase is amazing as well as your bookends !
Today would be a good day to curl on the couch with a good book !!!!

My goodness I just love that book shelf. I hope to change our oldest sons room downstairs into a library of sorts for all of my books. It is so nice to meet someone else that collects books. My hubby usually asks me if he can get rid of one or two. I answer with "You married me, you married my books."

I love your wall of bookcases! I've always wanted that! My dream is to build another room onto our house as a library. Wall to wall books - wouldn't that be great! All your bookends of wonderful!

Just for some history on your brass duck heads. I used to have a set exactly like them that Hubby ordered using the stubs from his cigarette packs, I think it was Camel cigarettes. He got lots of interesting things from the Camel book.
I left a lot of stuff in Ky with family members when we moved, we moved so quickly I didn't have time to have a sale so I just gave stuff away...some of it I wish I had back or had brought with me, but ya live and learn.

I loved your entire collection and envy you those shelves *wink*

Morning, dear friend. Just wanted you to know the effect you have on people, even without knowing it. I woke up this morning singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" without realizing why! How can I have a bad day with that sweet song playing in my head first thing in the morning! Ksarra

I love your book case! I love books as well but I don't have anywhere near as many as you do. I need to find more time to read. I guess that would mean less computer time (so sad) but I need to read my Bible more (Lots more) I just don't have time to work, only about 15 more years to work that's all ( OMG that's horrable) I won't last another 15 years working.
Have a wonderful day,
ginger

BJ,

I love ALL of your beautiful bookends, but my favorites are the roosters. I have never thought of looking at thrift stores for bookends. Thanks for the great idea.

I love your little reading girl statue. I would love something like that.

I used to read Danielle Steel a lot, but gave up after she started writing too much glitz. I just recently borrowed two of her books from the library. Have you read Echoes? It is a great story.

Take care, my friend. I am going to spend my snowy weekend curled up with a good book and a cuppa, just as you suggested.

Blessings,
Mary
