HI, ya'll
I hope you are having a good week, so far.
I wanted to show you a few things I found THRIFTING ♥
I LUV olden CIGAR BOXES.....
first off, I think they are tiny
works of ART....
I have several that I will show you a little later...
you might say I have a COLLECTION of CIGAR BOXES since I have at least THREE....:)
NEXT....Cigar Boxes always remind me of my young years in school. We kept everything in the world in them...scissors, glue, pencils....
and we ALWAYS decorated a CIGAR BOX up really pretty for our VALENTINES BOX....
How I wish I had saved some of them...my mama helped me make some GORGEOUS ones.
THIS box is in EXCELLENT condition.
BUT, I really.....REALLY LOVE this olden, wooden box that is in such fine condition,
I can't even believe it.
Isn't she a beaut !!
These '56 and '57 books look pretty cool, just nestled inside the wooden box...
....a little VINTAGE CHARM, if you will.
The business that became the Northwestern Yeast Company was incorporated in May 1884 as the George A. Weiss Malting and Elevator Company.
By the late 1910s, one business journal referred to it as “a multi-million dollar corporation which practically monopolizes the dried yeast field."
On February 5, 1912, Northwestern Yeast suffered a massive fire that destroyed its entire plant, grain elevator and seven-story brick malt house. Watched by thousands of spectators, the fire at one point threatened to destroy several blocks of buildings and caused Northwestern Yeast a loss estimated at $500,000 in 1912 dollars – over $11 million today.
But....the company recovered from the devastating fire.
It is not clear what ultimately became of the Northwestern Yeast Company,
...above info taken from the net.
No wonder we love THRIFTING.
SOOO many cute ways to use all these vintage things we are blessed to find...things that make our hearts sing...
These things just make our
days....lives....
more enjoyable. So much stress and troublesome times going on in the world, it's so great to have SOMEthing you really enjoy...and I REALLY enjoy
THRIFTING........don't you ?

(I know...it's a loooong post....but then, I am known for LONG POSTS....:)
THIS beautiful piece is
VICTORIA IRONSTONE....
I have tried and tried to find something like it on the web but have not been able to.
It appears to be VERY old ......
and I don't have a clue what the little, stoppered bottle was meant to hold.
I just know I think it's pretty.

OOPS....
I do have ONE more little thrifted item to share...
...the ca-utest little black evening bag.
While the places I go "in the evening" don't require an EVENING BAG,
it sure looks mighty fine hanging on my MACKENZIE*CHILDS shelf that
MR. SWEET BUILT.....
put in an awesome frame and hung in a bathroom
or a dressing room (if one HAD a dressing room)....♥
You, my dear BJ find the neatest things when you go thrifting. Me well all I usually buy are cook books. Do I need said cook books, no, but I love reading them.
ReplyDeleteMore great thrifting finds. I especially like the bottle, very unusal. The evening bag is also a favorite. Have a blessed evening. Madeline

ReplyDeleteI love thrifting too. You find the most wonderful things.
ReplyDeleteI really like the little bottle.
You found some great things, bj. I just love old cigar boxes. My Dad used to "mouth" cigars. I don't think I ever saw him light one- isn't that funny?

Hi BJ! Cute boxes! I wonder if the bottle is Danish or something? I'm trying to figure out what countries are known for blue pottery and crowns!

ReplyDeleteI like old cigar boxes also and have several stashed in the studio some empty some full of beads, thats another thing I need to get organized
I am liking your blue & white bottle also have no idea about the age etc
I love treasure hunting for vintage things and I have found 2 real junking building I go in now and hunt not in a good part of town but lots of stuff to dig through
you always have pretty
That bottle is intriguing. I wonder if it was for medicine, back when it was always "compounded." I am not sure of the size -- maybe it was a flask!
ReplyDeleteMy Daddy worked in the Post Office downtown when I was growing up, and there was a blind concessionaire in the lobby of the building. He used to give Daddy some of the cigar boxes, and he brought them home for us to play with. I had my paper dolls, crayons and al my little treasures stashed in them. I don't know what ever happened to them -- thrown out eventually, I supposed.
That yeast box is wonderful with the books.
Great finds. Love the history on the Yeast Co. since I'm from Chicago. I love researching old items like that. Cute black bag, too!
ReplyDeleteI love boxes, too. They hold the intrigue of what might be contained inside. These are great, BJ.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the bottle held liquor.
As I said in one of my posts, "one woman's trash is another woman's treasure!" I love everything you found..I never get tired of treasure hunting. Never.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds BJ ~ loved them all. If you find out more about the ironstone bottle let us know.

Great finds! I like cigar boxes too and yours are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my kitchen. Ah! My plates and glasses are on the open shelves and on some shelves in the counter. To have more space I have some big baskets under one of the tables.
Besos from Argentina! Silvina
You are so right. Some of the troubles float away when we eye our favorites. They do sparkle and shine and glow for us, don't they.

Wonderful treasures you have found!
ReplyDeleteThat was really interesting about that company and its devastating loss..............wow.........just awful!
LOVE the box and also spied one of my all-time fav movies, "The Holiday." I cannot even tell you how many times I have seen it - bought it as soon as it came out and so many friends had never even heard of it - and it is GREAT!!!
Oh how I love the smell of a cigar Box, it brings back memories of my dad working the night shift. He said the cigar helped him stay awake. That black purse would go so cute with a little black dress.
ReplyDeleteI love old boxes of any shape and size. Cigar smell always reminds me of my late dad,he loves smoking a cigar at Christmastime,so I always think of Christmas too, when I smell them. Love your bottle too,as I love anything blue and white. It does look very old. Yes I do love thrifting,we go every Saturday morning.
ReplyDeleteI am visiting from Coloradolady x
A friend gave me all her husband's cigar boxes. At the time I didn't know what to do with them Now I have a hundred uses for them. They do have some lovely artwork on them.
ReplyDeleteI used to save my dad's cigar boxes, but I don't think they were wood. Also the little glass tubes, good to store my dimes!
ReplyDeleteI think I missed the MC shelf reveal and you don't have one of those little search things on your sidebar.
Where do I find it. I saw the start of it, but not the finish!
BJ...you find the best things!! loved everything, and especially the boxes and containers, they look great displayed. Happy VTT
ReplyDeleteWow! All of these are amazing thrifty finds! LOVE the old box - the story behind the company is quite interesting! Love the old ironstone - it is beautiful - well done~
