The Welsh Hutch

I have always loved the looks of the Welsh hutch.
I love the open shelving.
There's as many different styles as there are stars in the sky
but the open shelving is seen on nearly all Welsh hutches.
I have posted about my Welsh hutch many times but
I wanna do it again. ;>)
It's perfect for DEBBIEDOO'S COPYCAT MAGAZINE CHALLANGE

Mr. Sweet and I bought a MAPLE HARVEST TABLE when we first married,
over 50 years ago. We used it for  years and then.......
I grew SICK and TIRED of it....

One day, while looking thru a great magazine, I saw THIS....

and knew instantly how that olden, maple harvest table was
going to earn it's keep here at Sweet Nothings.
"Ooo, Mr. Sweeeeet.................."
So, he began to
DESIGN...
DRAW...
THINK...
DRAW AGAIN.........
and then he
STARTED TO BUILD  !
And, after he finished the building,
I began to paint in RED.
Yes, ma'am.....
he built that beautiful hutch top to slide that harvest table under
and
WALLA....
I had my very own beautiful RED
WELSH HUTCH.

I love the fact that I can lift one of the leaves and have more room on the top for .....
STUFF...:)

I use this a lot for my desserts when we have a family dinner.

It's great when we have so many desserts that we need this added room.
lol
Ever I  need an additional table for 6, I can slide this table out from under the  beautiful hutch top that he built.

I change the things on the top of the table
ALL THE TIME....

but, THAT'S what NESTING is all
about....

I keep several of my thrifted, vintage
ironstone pieces here.
I USE these olden pieces of mine.
I don't think I even own a piece that is never used.

The burlap runner with red stripes
was a project I did a couple of years
ago....
Hutch from WOMAN'S DAY 2002 magazine
and  my RED copy.

COPY CATTING
is soooo
much fun.

  1. You must have found the most talented man around when you married. He does excellent work on anything. Love your hutch. Are you using the new way? Next Saturday will probably be last day for me doing post. Even those that know blogging functions are having a hard time. It has been a great ride!

  18. Ooooooo..... I wish I could build. Just think - if you could build it yourself you could make it to fit the space you have. I have a space that I would love to put one of these in, but it's not wide enough for one. However, one could be custom made to fit. Eventually, I'll find something ready made that fits into the space, though. Give your husband a big hug and let him know that he's got some pretty cool talents! All the ladies in blogger land are now jealous!
