Rat killing.....

When I was a little girl.
...a long, loooong time ago,
my daddy would go out in the yard in the summertime evening
and water the lawn with the hose.
When I would ask him why he was hand-watering, using a hose,
instead of putting the sprinklers on,
he would tell me that he was doing all his
RAT KILLING.
I didn't know until I was grown that was his way of saying he was trying to solve problems.
HIS problems...
THE WORLD problems...
ALL problems, I guess.
I do the exact same thing now.
.....thoughts...questions...musings...
*
I wonder why more of the 18 houses on my block didn't fly a flag on MEMORIAL DAY..
only THREE, including mine, out of the 18.
Now, that's sad.
But I noticed smoke rising from the backyards of nearly every one of the houses..
grilling and having fun...which is WONDERFUL.
I just want them to honor our MILITARY with the waving of the
RED WHITE and BLUE
while they eat their burgers and drink the beer.
I just think we should THANK our military every single chance we get and
flying our beautiful flag BECAUSE WE ARE FREE TO DO SO,
is a great THANK YOU.
I wonder why it seems almost every person in politics is either not honest,
a skirt chaser, a pervert  or tell us things that are so far from the truth that I think that they think we're STUPID.
I know these are harsh words but I am to the point of being tired of pussy-footing around when
it comes to calling things like they are.
Truthfully, I  WANT to call them liars but I was taught NEVER to call someone a liar....
GOD'S RULE and MY MOMMA'S RULE.
but when they are telling you a *non-truth* and then get caught, they THINK they can
EXCUSE the lie by saying, "oh, I misspoke."
GIVE ME A BREAK...
O.........I also know that
THERE'S EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE.....!!
I'm sure not ALL in  politics are untruthful...
*just sayin'
I LOVE OUR TEXAS GOVERNOR, RICK PERRY.
In direct opposition to President Obama (again! :-) Texas Governor Rick Perry has just signed a new law requiring anyone voting in Texas to produce VALID PHOTO ID....
freezing out ILLEGAL aliens,
and most importantly, stopping  the double and triple COUNT from illegal voting.
Now things are more fair in Texas....
I am wondering why all the other states don't follow suit...
sure would make for less DRAMA.
We let this crossing the border thing get waaaay out of hand
a LONG time ago and now,
IT IS A ROYAL MESS that I seriously doubt will ever be straightened out.
I am wondering why, last year, we didn't get a
COST OF LIVING raise on our monthly SOCIAL SECURITY checks
because *THEY* said
COST OF LIVING WASN'T GOING UP.
Come on...!!!!
AGAIN.....we are OLD but we're not STUPID.
All last year AND this, I see a rise in price every single time I go to the grocery store...
or fill up my car...
or need a tooth filled...
or
or
or !!!
O, but we DID get a raise THIS year..
just in time to pay the RAISE in our MEDICARE INSURANCE.
I wonder why most movies anymore don't seem quite as good as they used to.
I am old enuf to remember that a LOT of movies were chocked full of ACTORS...
great actors...
well known actors.
Now it seems if there's 2 REALLY great actors in a movie, you've hit the jackpot.
I wonder why, when we are at home with family, playing games like
TEXAS HOLD 'EM
I can beat the pants off them....
but let me go to VEGAS for a fun weekend
and I lose all my money,
my shirt
my pants
and sometimes, MY SHOES !
:))
I wonder why I don't look CUTE anymore.
You know, at THIS olden age, I look "nice"...or "ok"....
I buy cute clothes (at times) but it seems the skirts don't hang right..
the tops are either too tight or WAAAY too big..
Is it that CLOTHES are changing..?
Or, could it possibly be that MY BOD is changing. ? Uhhhh, pretty sure that's it....

I have to buy a bigger bra and have it tighter just to HOLD UP MY BOOBS.
Now, I can remember the times that I would stuff tissues in my bras,
just to PUFF OUT a shirt..
and they were where they were supposed to be..
not down, hanging out with my stomach.
Well, it's getting dark..
and I need to turn off this water before it runs my water bill up thru the roof..
I try very VERY hard to keep a positive attitude all the time..
I think IT'S GOOD FOR THE SOUL.
But, sometimes, like NOW,
I LOVE SOUNDING OFF...
THAT'S also good for the soul...

Think I'll fix myself a good COLD drink
and see if I've solved ANY of the things I wonder about.
I WISH this was my beautiful photo but ....
got it off the net.
Whoever took it is a crackerjack with the camera.
I found us some cookies to go with that ROOT BEER FLOAT..

  1. Ah BJ... If you find the answer to the boob thing... would you please share it:@)

  2. Great post and I enjoyed your photos. I agree most Politians are liars and cheats. I do hope there are some honest ones out there.

  3. I agree with you on everything you have said in this post. I wish the people of this country would wake up and vote all the bad politicians out of office. Flag Day is coming up and I hope people will display the flag proudly. This was a very good post. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  4. BJ, what a great post. So true so true. We cannot stand politicians. You didn't get a SS raise just like my husband hasn't had a raise at his job for three years now. Plus no bonuses and two pay cuts and more coming. It's bad just really bad.

  5. This was a fantastic post, I agree 1000%, and we can only hope and pray for the best. xo P.S. I blame the boob thing on gravity!

  6. Just finished my root beer float on this chilly, rainy day. Some habits die hard.

I have no problem with your calling a spade a spade. I like your governor, too, and I like the idea of having a valid ID proving that one is a citizen to be able to vote and I don't like same day voter registration one little bit. When the dead vote, and some people get to vote in every single district...well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize what's going on and in whose favor it is.

As for the boob thing...I have no idea what you're talking about. ;>

  7. Oh BJ I couldn't agree with you more. It gets so hard to keep it in. When wrong is wrong you need to speak up. Oh man BJ, we could go on and on. My opinion of political correctness...they are cowards! Tell the truth and call it like it is. It can be done without being cruel.

Now for the boob thing...let me know what you find out! LOL! Age and gravity, gotta love it. NOT!
    xoxo, Sue

  8. Yeah I read the stories even from so far away, about the politicians every country is the same I guess, you have the good(rarely), and the bad but mostly the bad huh! Great to air your grouses just to get it off your chest!:) Hope you have a good day or night?

    ReplyDelete
  9. You don't have to provide photo ID to vote? Well, congratulations to your governor for bringing that in - how can you tell who's entitled otherwise?
The root beer float looks soooo good!

  10. Wonderful post...and that is also why my hubby hand waters. I enjoy it too ...and the sound of water slows my brain into thinking...

  11. Love the root beer float. All politicians are crooks ... it is part of the job requirement ... some more than others including Mr. Big Hair Perry! :D :D :D

  13. Sometimes dear BJ, we just need to "tell it like it is", that is what you did:) Thanks for sharing your thoughts, things are in a mess I would say! Our people aren't getting what they need and we are giving money we don't have to others. That ticks me off!

Hugs to you dear friend, BIG HUGS!

  14. I try solving the problems of the world morning and night, too. I also do it driving to and from work at 72 because I STILL need to work to help pay the bills. I loved your post, and could relate to each of your concerns...even the personal ones. I keep wondering just how much farther the boobs can fall before I am flat on my belly on the ground!!!!! Loved every bit of your post...and the photos of the water frm the hose are awesome. HMM. genie

  15. BJ,
First of all, I think I agree with everything in this post!
Secondly, I am so craving a handful of those chocolate chip cookies right now...

  17. Well Miss BJ...I so agree with you!
The Stars&Stripes wave on my front porch every single day! My husband, is a Vietnam Vet and we will never forget those serving!
This latest fiasco, which they are now calling Weinergate stinks.
What really got me...was when I heard that Congressman Weiner, called Bill Clinton to apologize for any embarrassment he might have caused him...huh???

  18. Sister, you are telling the truth...this country and it's leaders (whom we elected) for the most part are not worth two cents. Their morals are as bad as Soddom and Gomarrah people. Glad you stood on your soap box and "killed a few rats".

    Have a great week.

  19. Hmm, I do all my thinking like that when I lay in bed at night. Rarely think of politics though but I'm sure our politicians are in the same boat yours are.
We've always had to provide ID for the right to vote, this move should make things more efficient for your State.
A root beer float...haven't had one for ages, thanks for a thought provoking post BJ.

  20. It does make you scratch your head and wonderful where are all the brains in government. I think many need a good hosing too :)

  21. Oh BJ you make me wish I could water. We don't because of being on a well. I will water a few plants but the yard is on it's own. Lately we have had lots of rain.
    You are beautiful seriously.
As far as the politicians......if you didn't have to have money to run this country would be in such better shape.
My husband never gets a raise either, one reason I have had to go back to work. If I have never mentioned it before he worked for Enron in Ohio and lost everything. he price of everything is climbing all the time for everything. Not fair. AT the same time the value of our home keeps decreasing. It is so sad. Wish I knew the answer.
I was at the voting poll recently and a young man that actually lived in my neighborhood was turned away from the poll and not allowed to vote because he didn't have a drivers license. He rides a bicycle everywhere. He had his college ID but it wasn't enough. I spoke up and said I knew him....wasn't enough. When he left the workers said he must have lost his license for some reason. I didn't feel that was right that they judged him that way.
Okay, I am rambling but your post was good and got me started hah.

  22. Hon, the Obama Regime does not include fuel and food prices when calculating inflation or cost of living....they omit those figures...

My grandmother taught me that there is such a thing as lying by omission, too.

  26. There's a lot of thinking that can be done while watering by hand. I find it very relaxing and thought-provoking myself, but never think to come indoors and record my thoughts as you have.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What an absolutely wonderful post. I loved every word! My husband and I just said yesterday that we think we'd like to live in Texas, and we're both native Californians! We just don't know why our politicians can't learn a few lessons from yours :)
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  28. Wonderful post. Could do a lot of "rat killing" watering like that and really appreciate the glory in the garden as well! Thank you for this grand post! Cathy

  29. Funny - I was trying to solve a big problem before I got out of bed this morning. A serious problem, I tell you. Why aren't there any cute tee shirts for summer where the sleeves hit right above the elbow and there is just the teensiest bit of flair to go around the middle where you don't look like a stuffed sausage? Even if you're not overweight, there comes an age where things sink and sag and get lumpy. There's another question for you...WHY?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I guess I'm rat killin' in my garden each evening. That's my time to reflect and sort out...except when I'm having to do some real killin. Spider killing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have heard "rat killing" all my life. Even now I end many phone conversations with "OK, I'll let you get back to your rat killing." Must be a Southern thang.

  33. THANK YOU!!!

It felt so good to read your "wonderings," and clap with you. Yes, we need to 'blow off some steam,' at times. About both deep and not-so-deep matters. We do! Even if one is an always-sweet-kinda'-blogger like you.

I blow off more steam than you do, 'cause I'm not so good at being an always-sweet-blogger like you. Thank you for doing it (blowing off steam) too. Once in a while. Makes me feel less lonely.

    Hugssssssssssssssssssss,
    ~♥~

    ReplyDelete
  34. QUESTION... To all your Dear Readers, who agree with you? Why don't they do a similar 'blowing off steam' post themselves??????

This country needs more mostly-sweet-bloggers, to stand up and be heard. About how we are sick and tired of being treated, as if we are STUPID.

Come on Gals, do a post of your own thoughts. A this-is-the-way-it-is post. Instead of just pretty, pretty, pretty posts.

You might be amazed... At how great it feels... To get some stuff off your chest!!! Really!

    ~♥~

  35. You just expressed the thoughts that many of us have no matter the age. My sons are 19 and 21 and are well aware of some of the issues you discussed...flag flying and Obama especially.

Of course since we are native Texans the whole illegal alien issue is near and dear to my husband's heart. Just don't get him started...there are usually cuss words. Since I am a teacher I worry about the issue from the perspective of the kids. I worry about their education and stability.

I worry about the boob thing. I'm 47...they are shrinking and drooping.

Last night we watched The Company Men. It's all about some men who lose their jobs due to down sizing. It was scary!! I told my husband we need to pay off our house ASAP and get more money in the bank. Issues like that scare me for sure.

You go right ahead and vent when you need to. Do you feel better today?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kudos to you for speaking up! I totally agree with all your comments...except I don't have the boob problem. :-)

I am sincerely sick of these illegals taking everything and not being responsible for citizenship, paying their share, etc. This is a horrendous problem! When they have a baby...more like babies...they receive a free ride plus a layette, all the necessities for a newborn, a car seat, etc. Our military personnel do not receive this!! Talk about injustice ~ :-(

Sorry to rant on your blog but it is so very frustrating! Thank you for sharing my thoughts ~

  39. I had to laugh and almost cry as I read your blog...it's a good thing that we have a sense of humor about these things or we would just be so discouraged we would give up hope. Sadly to say that the America we once knew and loved is quickly slipping through our fingers. I don't know if America and especially the middle class will ever recover from this mess. I don't have the answers, sure wished I did. I guess all we can do is pray for the future and hope things get better. Until then we'll just have to keep our wits about us. Those boops are a big problem!!

  40. Figuring out things is as close to philosophy as I ever want to get. As for politics...I got involved with politics a few years ago when I saw what was happening with our fed government. If you go to some local meetings it will probably restore your faith in local "politicians" I've found they're pretty good people with hard jobs. Chicago style politics is nothing but thuggery and that is what is wrong in DC...no morals!!!
Cost of living...the gov. took gas and groceries out of their equation...that's why they say there is no inflation...they just change the rules when things don't fit their scenario....omg I'm sorry for running on...I did enjoy your post!!! Have a beautiful day!!! GO...Rick Perry!!!

  41. I love the post, BJ, cause I do this all the time; husband just doesn't understand why I "drag that hose" but it's a great time to "ponder" and talk to God about my problems. I do agree with your ponderings here and wish we'd all wake up before it's too late! Great pictures, too!

    ReplyDelete
  42. What a great post BJ! I agree with everything!

I'm so tired of all the perverts and dishonest politicians too. ANY misconduct unbecoming an elected official should result in an immediate firing. It's not brain surgery to have a code of ethics. And I don't care what party they belong to! Get rid of them.

We flew our flag on Memorial Day but I remember commenting to my Hubby about our neighbors that didn't. Flag day is this week and we'll be flying ours again.

  45. B J - Let it 'out" it does the body good!! I agree with you girlfriend!! I have lost my job, Adm. Assistant 2 yrs ago!! :))
    I was 52!!
Every job I have applied for ask...Are u bilingual?? So.... I am still unemployed !! I have attained a "rotten" attitude about this job search. So...... I went and got my CDL (who would have thought) and will be driving a school bus :-o I feel very lucky to even have that now!!
As far as the boobs.... I have had 3 - yes I said 3-reductions... they just grew back every time :((
Think I will go grab my water hose now and do me some rat killing...!

Oh - Yes these politicians are liars and chicken sh... to the core!!

Anyways, I agree with you 100%. I guess thepoliticians "tell untruths" and work us over becasue we let them. We can't seem to get together to hold them accountable and they know it.
Michigan requires a photo ID for voting too:>)
By the way, I think you always look cute:>)

  48. AH, found it. I agree, you need to "kill some rats' every once in awhile. I disagree about ONE thing.....YOU are fabulous looking!!!!!But I totally am with you about the shirts! WHERE are they???? Whenever I find a shirt like that I grab it quickly! Don't apologize for standing up for what you believe in. We fly our flag 365 days a year, PROUD to!!!! XO, Pinky

  49. Amen! Amen! Amen! You covered almost all that I would have with your rat killing (a term my father-in-law used) except maybe drilling, or rather lack of it. No let's not drill here, let's send our money to Brazil so they can drill, or to China to "create" jobs there, or perhaps to the Middle East, not only in the purchase of oil but in foreign aid, so they can hate us more.

Other than that, a movie with 2 good actors? Which one was that?

I'm with you on the tee shirt thing with a longer sleeve! But also, why are all the sandals -even flip-flops - made for fat feet?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Amen, dear BJ!
    Hope your guy gets in!

  51. Oh and I never heard that expression, rat killing! Blogging is so educational!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well that was fun...interesting...entertaining! I don't know that I've ever called anyone a liar (to their face) but there do seem to be lots of them on both sides in politics. I don't know if we just catch them more or if it has always been this way.

We had our flag up on Memorial Day and I saw that the people across the street had little flags all around the front landscaping. I didn't look at the rest of the neighbors.

What I have found is that instead of "you look good" these days I hear, "you look good for your age"! Now, I think that is supposed to be a compliment-but, I preferred it the other way!
