Another round..

OK...here we go with another round of working on 
a table that 
I HOPE
 will favor ....
THIS ONE.

Mind you, I am not trying to COPY
DONNA'S table.
First of all, I could NEVER copy her work..
SHE IS GOOD !!

I am using it as a guide for MY table.
These sign/memory tables should be made
using names, images, sayings and etc.
that relates to your life.
I'll tell you all about how I chose MY subjects to stencil....
RIGHT OFF THE BAT this morning,
those dadgum new stencils have a backing on them 
THAT STUCK TO THE TABLE.
While I was slam-dab in the middle of pitching my HISSY FIT..
.... MR. SWEET calmly  peeled it off with his little knife.

May I just say here...
 SHOOT FIRE AND SAVE THE MATCHES !!

After we RE-READ the instructions on this can
of SPRAY ADHESIVE,
we decided we had not waited long enuf after spraying the stencils
before laying them on the table.
I nearly passed a kidney stone when I saw the little tiny mess
left behind by the sticky stencil...
but then remembered I was about to use my palm  sander on the
whole tabletop, distressing it to the point that it looked old..
very very old.
THIS little boo-boo was going to fit in with the distressed look JUST FINE....
SO FAR...
SO GOOD....
I just have to keep reminding myself....
BREATH !!!
I'm telling and showing some of the GOOFS I have encountered with this little table..
Surely, I am not the only one in this world that is TALENTLESS
and doesn't have a clue how to do these things.
Maybe showing you what I have learned will help you with your OWN little table...or
any other stenciling project.

This poor little LONE STAR OF TEXAS
is having a hard time getting all the other 
stencils FINISHED.

    You are not the only one. I am totally hopeless when it comes to DIY and crafts. Just terrible. haha. :O)

    I think your table will turn out great, though. You are right, the mistakes will just fit into the distressed look. ;)

    Oh BJ, your table is looking fabulous to me. I havn't stenciled in years, so I am sure I would make all kinds of messes. I can't wait to see it all finished, I know it will be fabulous. Hugs, Marty

    I am not so hot with crafts. I once sewed a sewing project to my shirt and needed to be seam ripped by the teacher :) I think you are doing a great job, it's supposed to be distressed. And now so are you?

    It's all good! It's YOUR table BJ, don't rush and it will be done when you say it's done! It's not like you need it for a gift or by a certain date. Smile, see... I am:@)

    Looking on the bright side I was thinking there was no way the paint was going to bleed under the great seal. Yu'd have a perfect stenciled letter.

    Did I tell you how many times I had to rip the seems out of my master bath pinch pleat drapes before they turned out ok? At least 5....seriously. And several trips to the fabric store for more pinch pleat tape, that I keep cutting wrong.

    You are gonna love your table when you get it all finished...I sure wish I had time to take on some projects like this....a few more days and school will be out, so maybe...just maybe I will get to some DIY things soon..

    This is worse than labor pains!
    Paint the durn thing with blackboard paint and then write what you want on it with chalk. At least you can erase the boo boos!

    Oh mercy, BJ. I hope I'm not too late with my comment. I have done quite a bit of stenciling in the past and what you need to hold your stencils down is "STENCIL ADHESIVE"...which is definitely different than spray adhesive. If I'm not mistaken, the spray adhesive you have pictured is like glue and sticks stuff together permanently!

    Stencil adhesive is just tacky enough to TEMPORARILY hold your stencil to your project piece. You can find stencil adhesive with the stenciling supplies in Michaels, JoAnn's or any craft store.

    A couple other important things to note about stenciling...use very little paint--almost a dry brush (wipe excess on a paper towel) and "pounce" your brush up and down (not side to side). That's why stencil brushes are flat on the bottom. These 2 things will help prevent paint from oozing underneath the stencil and you'll have a cleaner edge when you lift the stencil.

    I always enjoyed stenciling and once you get the basic techniques down, it's actually a lot of fun so hang in there! I bet after you finish this project, you'll be going around the house looking for other things to stencil. :)

    I haven't stenciled in years. I used to love it. YOU, my friend, are hardly talentless. I can't wait to see the finished project, but the process has made me giggle a lot so it's really two victories in one.
