Last week, I had a
WEST TEXAS COFFEE
using these dishes I bought from
WALMART
last year.
They are by BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS,
TUSCAN RETREAT
My COFFEE PLATES go so well with the dishes
and I mentioned in my post that I surely wish that
I'd bought TWO sets of the Better Homes and Gardens dishes...
They are still available ...
.$34.95 for a 16 piece box.
I walked into GOODWILL 2 days after the post...
and
"what to my wandering eye did appear....
A SET OF MY DISHES...!!!
♥♥♥
HOLY MOLEY !
I actually could not believe my olden eyes..
and...
I DID SQUEEL !!
4 DINNER PLATES
4 BREAKFAST PLATES
4 BOWLS
all like brand new...
heck...I think they ARE brand new...
all for
$10
♥♥♥
♫♪♥happy dance happy dance, cha cha cha♫
Alas....the MUGS weren't with the set.
Guess they were coffee drinkers and didn't want to give up the cups.
Oh well...not to worry.
I am bound to find them sooner or later at another THRIFT store. :))
...i just know it !
I am very unorthodox
when it comes to putting table settings together.
I tell ya...just whatever looks good to MY eye is what I use.
...and BLACK and WHITE
just always looks
GOOD to me.
I took my color cue from this adorable
FRENCHY ROOSTER PLATE...
...tried them together and...
I LIKED IT.
I am so proud of my new dishes...
Now, I can sit my table with a setting for 8...
just won't have all the cups.
I'll serve ICED TEA....
and then
coffee in clear glass cups with dessert.
....and there ya go !
Nothing GOOD to eat today..
just salad....
cottage cheese and cushed pineapple
and cute little butterfly crackers...
and....is THIS some sort of bread baker thingy?
I've never seen a loaf of French bread THIS long..
I found it in an antiques store and loved the way it looks...
It seems to be pretty olden...
I mean, this baby is LOOONG..
and, it has little dark spots all the way down,
as if little biscuits or rolls were cooked in it.
But, WHO has an oven this would fit in?
You'd need an oven the size of a car.....well....nearly.
Any one know what it might be??

I don't know about that tray but I love it! I wonder if it was a trencher, used to serve food? I think the kids would have shared one trencher.
ReplyDeleteThose are great finds! Anytime you can find the dishes of your dreams for $10 is a very good day indeed. I really like your final find... Can't imagine baking a wooden anything in the oven... Perhaps Terri is correct. Surely one of your readers will have the definitive answer and you'll let us know next time.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Don't you just love when that happens? I certainly do! It was meant to be! I love hearing these stories. They really are very pretty plates. I believe I have the dish towel that coordinates with them too! LOL! I also have another dish towel that I bought to coordinate with that towel that has a rooster on it as well! How about that? You are right on with your beautiful rooster dish!
ReplyDeleteI think you are one of the luckiest ladies ever and yes I remember that post! Great find at the Goodwill! I don't know what that long thingy is but I would have bought it too!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your evening lucky Lady! HUGS!
BJ,wow what a wonderful find. It is amazing what one can find when Goodwill Hunting. All good things come to those who are patient. The pattern looks great with the black and white checks. The long bowl is also a great find. I have no idea what it might have been intended for, but I know you'll think of creative ways to use it. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI love Sarah's comment about 'Goodwill Hunting'! Congratulations!!! Life is SWEET!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! Don't cha just love it when you find something you wanted at a Goodwill or Thrift store! Nothing better! Love them all together too!
ReplyDeleteI think you have the thrift score of the week! I like those dishes, too. I eye them every time I'm in Walmart.
ReplyDeleteOh what a fabulous find. Isn't it just the greatest thrill when you walk into GW and there all of a sudden is something that you are looking for. Just thrills me so much. Your dishes are wonderful and I love the tablescape. I have no idea what the wood tray was originally for, but I can't wait to find out. It's wonderful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome you found a set of 4 for $10!! Keep looking you will find the mugs and if you don't mix and match is so much fun anyway. Love that long bread trench thing! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteThe dishes were meant to be yours! I think it is amazing how people find exactly what they want at thrift stores out of the clear blue skies! I have seen these dishes and I really love them. They look so pretty with your checked napkins and the rooster plate. Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane

ReplyDeleteSherry
I love that long wooden dish..very neat! I have the same dishes too LOL
ReplyDelete(As for my book, just Google Blurb Books and it will lead you along the path!) ;D
What fantastic luck!!! Ofcourse I don't really believe in luck - just blessings. And this was a great blessing finding the whole set (minus cups). I'm thinking that long piece is some kind of bread bowl for mixing bread. It's cool no less!.
ReplyDeleteAnn
Congrats on finding your plates for such a good price BJ! Also lovin' your cute little French rooster plate, polka dots are so happy-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteMRS. Goodwill is very happy those dishes found a good home with you! I know you will enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteYou always put together such pretty settings, you have a good eye!
Hi BJ-- I was always of the assumption that your wooden thingy is what they bake French baguettes in. It probably was used in a commercial oven for it to fit. I have a very similar one that I use on the table to serve a sliced baguette. Those were great finds! Sally
ReplyDeleteOMG, I want a dough trough JUST LIKE THAT ONE!!! LOVE IT! You are right, it IS UNIQUE! I LOVE your dishes and I thought I heard you "Squeal"...I am SO HAPPY it was a "GREAT FIND SQUEAL" and not a stub your toe one! Those dishes are divine, Love the scalloped edge and how wonderful they look with your black&white!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you, Donna
Wonderful finds indeed.. the bread thing does look like it was baked on, simply by the black marks... interesting... very interesting!
ReplyDeleteBJ,
ReplyDeletethose dishes are lovely. I like the colors. Isn't it fun to find treasures?
Take good care...
Love those dishes. How fantastic that GW had a second set. Our GW is the pits, nothing but junk.
ReplyDeleteThe table you set is so beautiful. Love the black and white napkins. I noticed you used napkins and napkin rings that seemed to match the dishes. Did you get those at Walmart also?
Oh BJ -- how delightful to find those pretty dishes. Love your long wooden thingy -- whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteBesides having a house filled with beautiful things, you are talented and now lucky. That was a long shot finding those dishes.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh..I need to get out my rooster tablecloth. I forgot all about that sweet thing! :) Everything looks so darned cute. I haven't decorated one bit for Valentines...oh..wait. My house! It's red now..yeah!! Is that ok?
ReplyDeleteThe dishes...just the cutest things, bj!
I am still grieving about the loss of my letter from you!! S O B!!!
Um...er' ...that means, you know, like crying??? Don't look so good, does it? :) Anyway...
My poor letter. I wonder where it got to??

Beautiful dishes! It is a real treasure!
ReplyDeleteKisses.
Wonderful the trencher, BJ. I'd love to find a long narrow one like yours.
ReplyDeleteGreat GW finds!
I do love those dishes, Beeej. I have eyed them myself, in Walmart. Not sure about the long thingie??? You could stick it in the ground and let a pretty vine grow on it--lol.
ReplyDeletexoxo
You and I share a love of dishes...and I have looked at this set many times! Thrifting seems to be the way to go, I could say it was too good of a buy to pass up!I am very interested in that long bread board. How in the heck did they bake the bread??? Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing the treasures one can find at Goodwill?! I can just imagine how excited you were to see those dishes that match yours and what a great price:-) I'm like you, I do my place settings the way I want to and looks good to me. Martha Stewart might cringe but oh well! lol
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what that long thingie is but it does make sense that it would have come from a restaurant or bakery that have those huge commercial ovens. xoxo
I love your post and your bright table setting.
ReplyDeleteI'll just join you for a glass of sweet tea :-)
Yay for you. I love squealing in goodwill. Inwardly, I don't want to be loud as to draw people to the area I'm in lest they might find the next great thing before I do.
ReplyDeleteLove the bread board thingy.
What a score on your dishes. Our Goodwill prices are a bit high here. I LOVE your tablescape. I am a rooster lover!
ReplyDeleteSheila
BJ, it was clearly meant to be! I see those cute dishes in your house, and they are perfect. And I love what's on them, too! When are you going to invite me over to eat??? Or are you scared I might steal the dishes and the quilt I see peeping out behind them and that cute wooden piece and all the goodies???
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
BJ, so happy you found those beautiful dishes for such a great price...love the colors. The dough trencher is a fabulous find.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find for your dish collection!
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white accents you have used. I am a huge fan of black and white (checks, plaid and polka dots) so I fell in love with your setting. Very nice!
