WHALE WATCHING IN AWESOME ALASKA

Because I meant to take a photo of our whale watching boat AFTER the trip was over...
and my camera battery DIED,
I had to settle for a photo of one off the NET....
BUT...our boat did look a lot like this one only OURS was much larger...
*
It was actually an AWESOME boat...
and had the best evening meal for us....
*
Fresh fruits to choose from....
*
A salmon something or other, which I DIDN'T partake of....
I DON'T DO FISH....!!!
But MR. SWEET loves it and he ate A LOT on our cruise.
*
OH YES.....

CHICKEN SALAD...with grapes...and pecans....
just pretty much like I make it at home...
served so prettily..

I will remember this the next time we have a party and serve CHICKEN SALAD...
*
LET me say right off that we never did get as CLOSE to the whales
as I was hoping...
The ZOOM on my little Point and Shoot camera did the very best
it knew how to do....
but my photos leave a LOT to be desired.
So sorry....
but, you can get an idea of what we were seeing....
*
ALSO...
it was beginning to get DARK...
*
This is all happening in JUNEAU and we had just
finished our HELICOPTER ride to the glacier....
*
We had to hurry to get this WHALE WATCHING TRIP in before darkness set in....
*
You can see the TAIL of one whale here...and the 'blowing' they do of another.
They generally were in packs, flocks, herds, schools (?) of 3 or 4...

*

This looked like a REALLY large one...
and I did get excited....
just wish he had been closer.
*

THIS was such an experience...
One we won't EVER forget...
and
I so hope ya'll can plan a trip there sometime.
It surely is beautiful....
and fun.....
and..
*

WE DIDN'T EVEN GET TO SEE
SARAH PALIN ....bummer...guess she was off promoting her book.
*
WE DID see the Governor's Mansion where she lived for awhile..
I wonder...will she be living in ANOTHER
WHITE HOUSE in a few years??
;>)
***********************************************
I am linking with OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY
WATERY WEDNESDAY
and because the mansion is so WHITE, WHITE WEDNESDAY

  10. BJ, wasn't that fun seeing the whales up close like that. We did the Alaskan cruise a few years ago and we were fortunate to get a whole group of whales coming up out of the water together which is called bubble net feeding. The tour guide said it had been several years since they had seen this. They even stayed out a lot longer than normal for us to get photos. We have it on video somewhere. I really want to do the Alaskan cruise again.

  11. I really laughed at the opening line of yours about the earrings! The trip sounds like it was very fun. Thanks for sharing. ♦olive

  12. My dear, that line about your earrings from high school is dangerous - milk came out my nose! Do you know how much of a mess that makes?
But I know what you mean about the whales! I went on a whale watching cruise a few years ago, and I still remember it as being one of the best times of my life! And they did not feed us at all!

  13. You got better photos of the whales than Norm and Donna got. I guess they are so fast, it's hard to get photos. I'm so happy you had a great cruise. Alaska is so beautiful. I posted several photos on my Facebook.

    Hugs,
    Chris

  15. Looks like a great trip. We did an Alaskan cruise 2 summers ago. Went to Juneau, Skagway and Ketchiken before hitting Victoria for a whale watching tour. Beautiful!

  16. Awesome pictures BJ! We got to see a few whales. Unfortunately one of the things we forgot was our binoculars but still it was great.

  17. Hi BJ,

I'm so glad you're having such a wonderful time! It looks beyond beautiful. I think your pics are great! We're definitely getting the idea of what you experienced as you watched the whales, and the food looks great (I might have to have an early lunch -- chicken salad, not "salmon something!").

Hope the rest of your week goes well!

    Fondly,
    Bill

  19. I'm not sure I'd want to be too close to a whale...I think your pictures show them perfectly! You don't do fish? Seafood? No crab or shrimp? Oh my...some of my favorite meals were once swimming:)

  20. We went on a whale watch in Boston a few years ago and it was just magical. Isn't it amazing just to be within sight of these immense and beautiful creatures?
