The names of those who died at the World Trade Centre site are being read out at the service by relatives and students.
A total of 2,974 people were killed on September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four aircraft.
Two hit the World Trade Centre towers, one crashed near the Pentagon and the other came down near Pittsburgh.
The ceremony in downtown Manhattan is pausing four times for silence, twice to mark the time when each plane hit the Twin Towers, and twice at the time when each tower fell.
At the Pentagon, George Bush will dedicate a memorial to the 184 people who died there.

GOD BLESS OUR AMERICA

what's a bird bath to do ?

I walked into KIRKLAND'S HOME STORE the other day, just to look around.
This adorable, metal, indoor birdbath was on the clearance table...
$49.95 orginal price
$24.95 sale price
$12.00 total price at check-out

BINGO, BABY !!

I love the old, greenish, coppery color of it...

The little critters on it are sweet...
The bowl isn't very deep..

I DON'T KNOW JUST WHAT TO PUT IN IT......

OH, YEAH......
...I would LOVE to keep fresh
ROSE PETALS
in it all winter long but...
that's not going to happen !!
AND
THE NESTER over at NESTING PLACE says NO FAKE (aka FAUX) STUFF.....ANY MORE.....
unless it is AWESOME OR BETTER...
soooooo
that leaves a lot of cute stuff OUT.....
what's a girl to do ?
no fake suff ?

OOOO, DEAR....

and
I want to do whatever SHE is doing because she has a fantastic NEST....

***
My question to you...
what would YOU do with this piece?
I sure will appreciate all your good ideas.
I have a hard time thinking
"outside the box"
but I know a lot you will come up with things that will blow me away.

I mean, after all, I AM very near to being a
GREAT-GRANDMOTHER ! GG, for short !
What does THAT have to do with BIRD BATHS and IDEAS, you ask.
WELL....
EVERYTHING is going to be connected to my becoming a
GREAT-GRANDMOTHER (aka GG) from here on out, i am thinking !

GiGi would be a great name for your new great grand to call you! Now the problem you have and it is a great bird bath. Everything that I come up with is too usual; a plant or a candle arrangement. I'm sure that someone will come up with a very original idea for you. Karen

It is a great piece. How about use it as a place to lay special cards that you want to keep and be able to look at often.

Well, darn! That last one is me. My brain isn't in gear yet.

Perhaps a bowl with some seasonal leaves inside it.

Put things in the bird bath you like...be them fake or faux ...what ever makes you happy...anyway that is my philosophy. by the way, that was an excellent price for the bird bath.

Great deal on such a pretty bird bath! What about using it as the base for a Cloche? If you could find one that fits you could display anything you wanted inside...unless you are worried about grandkids (or great grandkids:>) knocking it over.

nikkicrumpet said...

Well from now on I'm gonna call you BJGG! I like the idea of using it as a big Cloche...coure I now own a Cloche so I can pretend to be an expert on Cloches lol. I also think a display of candles could be fun...since it's metal you can't even burn it down when your mind wanders into the GG territory.

I went to give you my ideas and see so many others beat me to it!! I thought of the large cloche idea but thought it sound silly but I see I'm not the only one with that idea. Also a fern may look pretty. Candles is a good idea too or some kind of fall arrangement. Most of us think alike!! It was a great buy.

Pumpkins, corn, and fall pretties. I love it!

What a steal you got there BJ . I don't have my thinking cap on today, I can't come up with anything different for you to put in that cute bird bath. Unless you set some pretty ceramic birds in it.

Bo said...

Morning BJ...All the suggestions for the steal of a bird bath are great, but it's pretty enough to "stand alone" so to speak..

BJ, I have a bird bath kind of like yours. I paid $50.00 for it and have regretted my purchase since. It sits outside in the garden and is useless. It is too shallow for a bird bath, rusty and serves no purpose. I keep thinking, what shall I do with that thing? HELP.

Boy, that didn't help you at all. I'm sorry. You didn't pay much and I think it is very cute. I will be checking your post for some ideas too. Smile. With your artistic talent, I am sure you will do something charming like everything else you do.

Love you girl..Jeanne

The birdbath is gorgeous! In winter months I would put a potted fern, it would look grand on it or even a very tall wide pillar candle! What a deal it was lucky you!!

First of all, I see that congratulations are in order:-) How wonderful that you'll become a great grandmother in the near future!!! As you know, I'll be a first time grandma come the start of November so I know how excited you are! hehe

A beautiful tribute to the 9/11 tragedy. I don't think any of us will ever forget that day, no matter what country you're from.

Love the birdbath!! I was thinking a wreath for the season laying down on it and maybe a big pillar candle in the middle of it:-) xoxo

Here I am playing catchup again!

Congratulations on becoming a GG!
Maybe you can use dried rose petals in the birdbath.

Your tribute to 9/11 is wonderful BJ!

Dried flowers aren't fake... :)
Pretty stones... shells... the cloche idea is fantastic... I know you don't like fall colors like I do, but I LOVE Stacey's idea of pumpkins and Indian corn.. dried leaves... (real ones, of course!)

My friend Grace is a grandma and her little granddaugher calls her GiGi...Grandma Grace! I think it sounds so right! I personally like the candle idea for the birdbath....a cluster of different heights.

Hi BJ,

You know I don't have any imagination, so I am afraid I can't help you out as to what to do with the indoor bird feeder. As a matter of fact, I have never heard of one of those. It is very pretty though, and knowing you, I'm sure you will come up with something really pretty to go in it. You always find good bargains. I love Kirkland's, but our's moved out of our mall.

Hope you are feeling better.

Oh, BJ ... You're going to make the GREATEST great-grandmother ever! I know you're so excited.

I love your little bird bath and think it would make a great plant stand for your kitchen or dining room ... or even a bathroom.

I'm sure you'll find the perfect place for it and hope you will show us when you do.

Sincerely,

Janie

hi BJ
Wow, what a deal! It looks geat just as is, or I guess my thought was to do a pumpkin topiary on it (3...lg/md/sm) sitting on a pile of leaves. Or get yourself one of those beautiful tri-colored mums (real) at wallyworld and arrange some leaves under it.
Thanks for encouraging me to post my Fall pics. They'll be coming soon!
be good,
Santa

Oh BJ what wonderful news! Congrats! I like the idea of something autumn for the birdbath. Like candles surrounded by leaves.

I know there is a bad hurricane coming to Texas this weekend. I hope you are safe, and no where near where it is supposed to touch down.

Betty said...

Love the birdbath, faux or not I would put a seasonal display in it.

Oohh..what a great buy that was!! I would probably put a lil bird house with a few nests on it...or put it by the front door with some pretty mints or candies in it!

Please keep us in your prayers. The eye of Huricane Ike is headed directly over our farm. We expect a few rough days with all of our animals. I will try and keep the blog updated as best as I can.

BJ,

Congratulations are in order. I know you will love being a great grandmother. Little ones bring so much joy into our lives.

You've posted a great tribute to 911. It is a day that none of us will ever forget.

As for lovely piece, I would decorate it with a garland of fall leaves and some gourds and candles. Autumn decor is so cozy and warm.

Please drop by my Writing Nook and pick up a little something I have for you there.

Blessings,
Mary
