A 50's ROCK A'BILLY SINGER
BUDDY was born and raised in our town of LUBBOCK, TEXAS
Charles Hardin "Buddy" Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959) was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. The change of spelling of "Holley" to "Holly" came about because of an error in a contract he was asked to sign, listing him as Buddy Holly. That spelling was then adopted for his professional career.
Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll."

His works and innovations were copied by his contemporaries and later musicians, notably The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.
In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Holly #13 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Lubbock, Texas, my town !
He recorded over 100 songs during his short career including hits like "Peggy Sue", "Not Fade Away", "Oh Boy", and "Rave On".
*I have some of these songs playing on my PlayList....
Buddy Holly has influenced virtually every aspect of the musical entertainment industry from rock and roll to country to rock-a-billy.
He continues to inspire artists, musicians and song writers to this day.
At the age of 22, Buddy Holly died while traveling on a light aircraft after a concert in Clear Lake, Iowa.
as a teenager at that time, my girlfriends and i just about cried ourselves to death !
*********************************************
I have danced a million, fun miles to his music...
and, I still love to listen to it.
Some things we did in the 50's, while listening to his music and others that were popular at that time:
making fudge.....
popping corn....
girls danced with girls....
talked on the phone til our moms MADE us hang up...
wrote our dreams in a DIARY.....
talked endlessly about BOYS....
schemed and planned how to get a certain boy to just LOOK at us....
giggled endlessly....
cried often.....
made best friends for life....
hoped and dreamed of meeting BUDDY HOLLY or ELVIS or LITTLE RICHARD or
JOHNNY CASH or FATS DOMINO or THE EVERLY BROTHERS or.......
would I go back and do it all over again ?
IN A NEW YORK MINUTE !!
love, bj

for 2 days now, he has dealt me misery!!
what's up with that??
Well, BJ, I've just realized that we are like two peas in a pod! Of course I remember Buddy Holly, and I can sing along with "Peggy Sue" because I know all the words. That was my time, too!
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Bruce Eder saying that Buddy Holly was "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll." What about Elvis?
I don't remember Buddy, but I've heard his music:>) I need to go check out the new blog with Fred. Have a great day BJ!
ReplyDeleteOf course I remember Buddy Holly and I remember well the day he died and how I cried.
ReplyDeleteI remember fondly, all those things you listed and yes...I would return to that time, in a NY minute!
Can't wait to see the new blog. Bet J will like it too!
Have a great weekend, BJ!
I remember him! I can join you - and your groupies - to sing 'Peggy Sue' and other hits of his. ~Adrienne~
ReplyDeleteHe died before I was born but I love his music. Same with Patsy Cline. Love her. I saw the movie of his life story but I can't remember the name of it. I LOVE the movie of her life story, Sweet Dreams. I've watched it a zillion times. It's one of my faves.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend.
Hi BJ...Yes, Mr. Blogger has been a big, bad and mean bully to me too the last 24 hours or so...He wouldn't take my post...I wonder if it had anything to do with Ike? You are going cruising...yippee! And yes, Buddy Holly...brings back memories..Happy weekend ;-) Bo

ReplyDeleteOh who could have grown up in the 50's and not remember Buddy Holly...now that was music back then...not this R & R of today.
ReplyDeleteBJ, have a great weekend...praise God all the way.
Amelia
Of course, I remember Buddy Holly; but my favorite was Bill Haley and the Comets. Bob & I saw Bill Haley live when we were Juniors in High School. Not all of our dates were "rat hunting". Mr. Blogger was a mess yesterday, but cleared up for me last night. Take care, Sally
ReplyDeleteHow well I remember Buddy Holly. I would love to visit Lubbock, Texas. Those were the wonderful days. I remember the first time that Elvis was on the Ed Sullivan show. At that time I had a 45 rpm record player. Every week when I got my allowance I'd buy a new record. Those were the days of drive-ins and the town's teen hangout. Everyone in our class had to read "A Tale of Two Cities, It was a wonderful era. I certainly would go back in a New York minute!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sweetie
I remember him well and his music. When I saw the date of his birth I realized he was born almost exactly one month before i was. He died way too young. This is a nice tribute to him.
ReplyDeleteBuddy left this world before I entered it, but I am familiar with his music and legend.
ReplyDeleteBlogger is giving me fits too. It won't save my changes, so I can't edit my posts. Argh!
:)
Oh I sure do remember Buddy Holly . We were on our way home from work and it was on the radio . I know there were others that also died that day but can't remember who they were . Very sad day . I always loved his music .
ReplyDeleteI was a teen in the 50's as I know you were . Thanks for stoping in I've missed you friend . Mary
Hi Sweet BJ,
ReplyDeleteI've been having some attitude from Mr. Blogger. He gets cranky at times I guess :) I do love Buddy Holly. The very first record I ever owned when I was little was a 45 of Peggy Sue. Poison Ivy was on the flip side and I would lay on my bedroom floor and listen to it over and over. My Daddy loved him. Thanks for taking me back.
Hugs,
Dena
Thanks for your support and all your comments.
ReplyDeleteFred
BJ,
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember Buddy Holly and remember how devastated my aunt was when he was killed. She was a few years older than me, but I do love his music. He was a legend, for sure.
Enjoyed my visit, as always.
Blessings,
Mary
I love Buddy Holly's music.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
