A BLUE MONDAY FULL OF WONDERFULNESS ~

A silly little picture of my smallest granddaughter,
DEEDS and myself.
silly, yes...
but I DO LOVE IT DEARLY.
We had such a good time the day I took her to have Pizza and play time at
CHUCKIE CHEESE
and we had this photo made of us....
THAT'S why I dearly love this little, silly picture.

It is held on to my fridge with a cute little heart magnet made by
my sweetest friend, LUCY BLOOM
if you've not been over to see her delightful blog,
please take time out and venture over. She has some lovely things!
(and, don't you just adore her name?)

I not only love all my different BLUE dishes but I use them often....
almost every day.
All foods just seem to taste better when they are on a pretty plate.
I am not one to "save" things, either....
I believe in using everything that I love.
I've seen people hold on to a pretty candle, never enjoying the flame from it...
or pretty pillowcases stored and end up yellowed and tattered from lack of use.
Please USE your pretties....that is just what they were made for!!
My mom used to tell me that all things pretty were made to enjoy and that
"you needed to USE them so that they would know that you loved them !"
I JUST LOVE THAT and I think of it often.
I am very partial to BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE
but, lately, I have been dreaming of
RED AND WHITE, too....
the start of a new collection, you ask....
could be.....could be !!
Quick Facts About Transferware:

- Transfer printing as a decorative technique was developed in England in the mid-1750s, particularly in the Staffordshire region.
- The transferware process began when a flat copper plate was engraved with a desired pattern in much the same way that plates used to make paper engravings were produced.
- Most transferware patterns sought by collectors today are two-tone in color. Blue and white, red and white and brown and white are the most common colors.
(i saw that statement you made about transferware, NIKKI..and now you know a little more about it. heehee)

All of my grandkids call me MEMAW and on a recent trip, one set of the kids
brought this cute, little, blue stoneware cup back to me.

Don't you just love it? I sure do......
but I'll tell ya what I REALLY love...

I love that they thought of ME while on a fun trip...
I love that THEY love ME.
and
I do love this little cup !
*****************************
My thanks to sweet SMILING SALLY
for hosting this fun,
BLUE MONDAY.
please sneak over and take a look at all the other pretty BLUES !

love, bj
and please don't forget to count your blessings!
continue to pray for our sisters and brothers on the Gulf Coast...they are having such a terrible time right now.
no electricity, no water, no ice...little food
GOD BLESS THEM ALL

  1. BJ, I could not agree with you more. Our beautiful things can bring us no joy if we dont use them! I use my vintage pillowcases and dishes regularly. Yes, some of them eventually fall apart or get broken, but I see no use in these thigs being boxed and passed down forever, never being loved. And speaking of love, your family clearly loves you:>) How precious to have such sweet grandchildren!

  3. Hi BJ...Just making my morning "rounds"...Your story today reminded me of my dear grandmother who lived to be 95...she was DIRT POOR...the outhouse, only cold running water indooors, an old tin tub for bathing, an outdoor black washpot with lye soap for laundry, and stitched together flour sacks for sheets...that kind of POOR. Anyway, when she passed away, the family found all the nice gifts they had given her stashed neatly away under her beds...for use "someday"... ;-) Bo

  8. Hi BJ,
Your comment to my blog just made my day. I giggled when you asked what Lures thought of all the pink. Your comment is exactly what he thinks. And I also think it is that phrase, If momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy. Well He makes me happy everyday.
I agree. We must use up our pretty things. I love eating off of pretty china.
    Loved your post.

  11. Hi BJ - I love your blues - especially your transferware. Thanks for sharing the transfer ware process. Also, the cup given to you by your grandchild is very special. My grandmother was also a strong advocate of using your "pretties." Your grandchildren are precious.

  12. Love all of your treasures. Blue is a great color. It can only be beat by one - pink of course. Although - that certainly is a matter of opinion. If you took a survey or a poll, I'm sure blue would be on top.
I passed an award on to you today. You can stop by any time to pick it up.
    Hugs,
    Charlotte

  15. I used to be one to keep good things for special occasions or would think when the kids are gone we'll use them more often. Then 12 years ago my husband left me. I decided then to use the good stuff all the time as what I had been waiting for wasn't going to happen. Now married to a wonderful man we use the good stuff, the antiques, etc. every day. Karen

  16. Hi BJ
Your blue dishes are beautiful. I'm with you when it comes to using the things you have. Better to break a beautiful plate and having enjoyed it while you had it then having it hidden away in a closet.
    Hugs, Rhondi

  27. Hi, BJ. I read your Blue Monday and decided to join in the fun, and gave your blog a mention! My blue stuff doesn't even begin to compare with yours, but I DO have some blue transferware like yours!

    And, aren't grandchildren wonderful?

  28. Heck BJGG...before I met you I didn't know crap about dishes...and I never would have thought to hang the dang things on the wall. Sheeesh if I keep hanging out with you I'm gonna end up with a MATCHING set of plates and I'll even know how to set a pretty table. I've already taken the giant "cloche" step! You all are turning me into a "proper lady" lol. Love ya woman...have a great day!

  29. Hello BJ, I am late visiting today. I had my first outing to the grocery store with my dh. I came home and went to bed. I am not as strong as I thought.

I love all of your blue dishes and the darling photo of you and your sweet granddaughter. I agree that we should use our pretty things everyday. I think your mom was wise to tell you to use your things. We love them and some day someone else will love them so don't wait. Our family will remember that we loved to set a pretty table. I know I have memories of my mom using her dishes and we sisters talk about it often.
Whew, that was long winded. LOL

BJ you have asked me if I received your card and I haven't. We live in a place where mail delivery is slow. Small town USA. I will let you know when it arrives and I thank you for your thoughtfufness.

    Love and hugs, Jeanne

  30. Love all your Blue Monday things. I agree, we should use all of our pretty things. When my grandmother passed away there were all of the pretty nightgowns, robes, undies, dusting powder and other things that we had bought for her over the years that she was 'saving' for something special. We need to use those things in the NOW! You are one rocking Memaw to go to Chuck E Cheese!! That's not one of my favorite places but my grand kids LOVE it so I go!!

  31. I so agree -- it does out hearts such good to use those pretty things in everyday life. Love those blue dishes, especially the ones in the top picture. And that Memaw cup is just precious.

I love to use all my pretties, and to show them off. Thank you for the lesson on transfer ware. Now I know more about it. I used to collect Blue Willow then I ran out of room. lol
    Have a great week.

  36. Hey BJGG....it's so easy. Just go to google or yahoo and do a search for vintage bathing beauties...but make sure to click to the "image" tag first. There are a bunch of them that you can print out. It was so easy and I'm pretty dang pleased with how they turned out!

  37. Oh I love that blue transferware! That's not something that I have yet, but would love to start collecting it someday.

The picture is so sweet and so it is that mug!
