Cool, Cloudy and Coffee Cake...

Hi, ya'll.
OMYGOSH...we are having the most awesome weather....
cool, cloudy.....just my kind of day.
It was so nice on our mile walk this morning.
We had a tiny rain a few evenings back and it may not have helped crops and lawns much but it
surely did HELP FEELINGS.

Ever heard of COWBOY COFFEE CAKE.....?(click here for her RECIPE)

Well, our good friend, LYNN that rules over at HAPPIER THAN A PIG IN MUD,
regardless of what EARL says,
made this cake and I just had to try it since I could just flat MARRY
COFFEE CAKE.  I love the stuff.....
and, may I just take the time right here to say that this
COWBOY COFFEE CAKE
is AMAZINGLY GOOD.
Lynn got the recipe from POSED PERFECTION and I sure am glad she did.

I added just a couple or three things to MY COWBOY COFFEE CAKE
(wonder where it got that name?)
I DEFINITELY would have added about 20 cups of  chopped PECANS, had I had them....
I used the IDEAL No Calorie Sweetener and 1 cap full of Vanilla.
The sweetener is AMAZING...taste JUST LIKE SUGAR...we use it in EVERYthing.
and I add Vanilla to every single thing I bake.
I even dabbed a little behind ea ear just like my Aunt Lillian used to do.
I also added a small handful of rolled, OLD FASHIONED Oats to the topping.

While I waited for the cake to bake,
I made DUNKIN DONUTS coffee
in my olden CORNING WARE COFFEE POT...

I have this 6 cup size and I also have the larger 10 cup size.
I don't use them very often...only when I am feeling especially nostalgic and sometimes
cool, cloudy weather brings those feelings on...
in a GOOD way.

Cloudy days are my favorite in the whole world.

I got out the sweet FIRE KING cups my friend, AUDREY, sent me. I love these little cups....they are just the right size and I use them almost every morning.
THANK YOU AGAIN, AUDREY.

Mr. Sweet especially loves these little
SMOKEY SAUSAGES, so I warmed some up to go with the coffee cake...
...just our normal, every day dishes...nothing fancy here.
In fact, now that I think about it, there's nothing FANCY in this whole house.

A golden place mat...

....sometimes a tiny bit of bling....
a little BLING never hurt anybody.

A pretty good-lookin' centerpiece, if ya ask me...:)
A sweet breakfast for a sweet day.....
I am partying over with

The Cowboy Coffee Cake sounds wonderful, and boy, I'm with you on adding that 20 c. of pecans!!! I cringe when the little grandsons want cookies or brownies made w/o nuts. :-((

BJ, this is a lovely setting. I can almost smell the coffee and coffee cake thru the screen! Can't believe it was 78 degrees here, in Texas, in August! Definitely a refreshing change!

Is that a clematis blossom? They sure do grow everything big down there in Texas.

I think your hubby must think you're the best. You certainly set a sweet table and make a fine cup of coffee and that coffee cake looks terrific. Bet it was delish.

Adding to my bucket list: Visit the Southwest, get to TX stop by BJ's for a good ole cup of Corning ware coffee and a piece of crumb cake with extra vanilla and extra crumb topping. Yes, adding this to my list!! <3 xo

Oh, this looks so good, especially with the crumb topping. I have to try the recipe!

I love your old Corningware coffee pot. My mom had one, you are bringing back warm, fuzzy memories!

I'm happy you got some rain. We have been lucky lately but today it is 90 and I'm not liking it!

XO,
Jane

So glad you liked the cake and thanks for the shout-out, love the addition of the oats! I actually had one of those coffee pots in my hand at the Salvation Army last Saturday, felt I should have bought it... but did end up putting it back. I think coffee just smells better perking away:@)

I saw this at Lynn's BJ and thought it was pretty awesome. That you upgraded it a tad with vanilla and oats it is now even better. I cannot bake quite yet-still too hot here. xoxo, olive

That cake looks so good ... well, your breakfast can't be beat. The rooster cups look better at your house than at mine where they were just hanging in the cabinet. Look so good with the old coffee pot. Used one of those for years. At one time they were recalled because of a fault in the handle. I just kept mine because I loved it. Long gone now.

BJ, this coffee cake caught my eye too when Lynn posted it. Haven't made it yet, but it's on my list. We have house guests arriving next week.
We've been having some of same kind of weather. Really, really nice! I'm sure the heat of summer isn't over yet, but it's nice to have these little teasers of fall.

You had me at pecans! Then tossed in oats? Yum-o. The frosting on the cake was the dabs of vanilla behind your ears. Pretty cool.

Hi BJ, I love cloudy days too and we had two of them this past week. Thoroughly enjoyed them. Made me just want to stay home and "nest". And with the warm soft lighting of the side tables, the house looks so cozy and the dust doesn't show. :)
The cowboy cake looks so good. Will print this one out and save for company breakfast. I have a recipe too today. Come on over and have a bite. xo

I will have to look for that sweetener. I have baked with Splenda but we didn't like the result.
Breakfast looks good, BJ! I add real vanilla to everythng too!
Nuts are so expensive again this year, 17.50 a bag at he big box store. Guess we will do without nuts this year. :(
Glad your weather is cooler, 80 ish here today.

I love a good coffee cake. Wonder if this called cowboy coffee cake because it uses sour milk? I like your blog and will be visiting your friends. Wish I still had the Corning Ware coffee pot.

BJ,
I thought that cake looked great on Lynn's post, too!
I think of you on cloudy rainy days because I remember you saying they are your favorite, and you're the first person I've known to say that.
I like them too, but sunny is my favorite.
Coffee and coffeecake. Yum.
