Chip off the old Block...

...the old BUTCHER BLOCK, that is..
Mr. Sweet and our two WONDERFUL children gave this 
butcher blog BLOCK to me for CHRISTMAS in 1976
and IT and I fell deeply in LOVE  ♥

We've been in love every since.
I love the towel holder on the side...
the other side has a knife rack but I never used it for knives.....too afraid one of the grands would cut themselves..

I generally keep a BASKET beneath it to hold
rolls of PAPER TOWELS...
but, MAINLY,  just to look....well.....KOOL.

With the rollers on the legs, it makes it so easy to move around, just where I want it.
When we have our fellowship group over...
or all of our LARGE family here for dinner,
I move the butcher block over to the side..
it works FANTASTIC as a beverage station...

MOST OF THE TIME....
it is the middle of my kitchen for a GRAND island.
 May I just add right here...
I have never, in all the years I've had it, cut one single thing on it
without a small cutting board beneath.
I can't stand the thought of big loong knife marks all over it..
My son, DAVID, is always teasing me about it...
and we BOTH giggle.    ♥ I love that man!!


When I find something I really like,
I love sharing it with you.

This doesn't mean, for a minute, that I think YOU  will like everything that I do....
but, just in case you haven't tried something that I like,
I want to mention it.
These GARDEN TOMATO AND BASIL
chips are....
AWESOME..!!        Have you tried them yet?
Several of you have asked me "how can you think of something to post about almost every single day?"
THIS is how...
I love taking photos and composing....this one post is almost ALL about POTATO CHIPS, of all things. lol
GOOD GRIEF...



I've had this little door hanger for probably 14 years.

One of my grandsons asked me, about 10 years ago, "what's  it for, Memaw?"

I said, "O, Drew...it's just to look pretty."....and he came back with, "So really, it's good for nuthin'?"...

What's a grandmother to say? "Yep, darlin'.... I guess you're right...good for nuthin !!"

O, I do LOVE being a grandmother....

7 little grand girls...3 big grandboys...1 little great-grand..
...blessings will follow me all the days of my life.

....and ONE LAST REVIEW....
I usually buy my candles from BATH AND BODY WORKS at our local mall.
If I am wanting to try a new scent, I buy the small ones...3 for $5.00,
and then if I really like it, go back later and buy the large one.
They are too expensive to buy the large one and not like it.
SOMEtimes, just smelling them in the un-lit state doesn't smell quite the same as it does when burning.
THIS one is un-freakin'-believable  !!

    I love that butcher block table, I'm really hoping to get a table like that for my kitchen in NC. I think it will be hard, as I don't think they are to common now adays. But, I'm looking.

    I have a butcher block table also, but right now it's at my brother's house. :-( Love your post about pinto beans, fried potatoes and cornbread! Yum!

    Kool BJ. That butcher block is very very Kool. I am still kicking myself because I passed one up at a garage sale twenty years ago because I thought it was pricey. I was wrong of course. I probably would not cut a thing on it either. I get that! hugs♥O

    Your friendship in the Land of Blog is priceless and I try to read everything you post!!! Your butcher block is grand...and the fact that you haven't cut directly on it is significant to me. Trying to preserve memories of the thoughtfulness of those who put that gift in your keeping and to keep it in pristene condition. I understand!
    Adore the tip about the candle...I've purchased a few that I felt I had to burn that weren't worth the money!

    I'd love to have a butcher block table - I think that I'd chop on it, but maybe after having one, I might think twice...Potato chips - at first glance, I thought that ypu made them fresh. My mother did that a few times, but with seven kids, that was a lot of work for this tasty snack (store bought is much easier :)

    Actually, today's RT post is from 2005, so it is digital in format. My shadow shot, from 1997, was a scan of a print. Younger or older, fine looking kids!

    I love t he butcher blog table...I would never chop on it either! I probably would have everything but the kitchen sink sitting on it, too!!

    I have to try the chips and I agree with you about the candles. I recently bought a candle at Target that was on clearance and it smelled horrible once I lit it! No wonder it was on clearance!!

    I love your butcher block table. Whenever I see one out antiquing, I wish I had a kitchen I could fit one in. Love the pot with the plant on top of the books...looks very old and Frenchy!

    That butcher block table is wonderful and versatile. A great gift! Grands do say the darndest things, but that one needs a gentle lesson on how important creating beauty is because I'm certain that he enjoys spending time at your place. (The more one posts, the easier it is to find topics and vice versa. I'm having an awful time.)

    I love your butcher block table. It makes me laugh that you won't cut on it, but I'll bet it always looks perfect. Mine, if I had one, would be all chopped up.

    I do have a butcher block kitchen table top, but it's not as wonderful as what you have.

    Oh BJ I also have a round butcher block I got in 1976 and I have used it each day since then..I wanted a round one as I had a square one before that I broke my pelvis bone on ha ha!! I know I know what a mess I am..Love ya Sister friend..hugs and smiles Gloria

    One thing is far sure, you use your butcher block for a lot of reason. Most people us it just for cooking purposes. I never saw one with rollers, but that makes it even better. As much as you cook, you probably could use another. I agree with you whole heartily, grand and great grand kids are the best.

    You are just a "wealth" of information--lots of good suggestions. I love your versatile butcher block. I am soooo like you. I have all kinds of things that I "protect" and keep nice instead of using them for what they were intended. What a wonderful gift the butcher block was. Mickie :)

    The butcher block is awesome BJ, and being able to roll it around and use it just as you need it would be so handy! I haven't tried the chips but I have tried the salty carmel candle. You're right, it smells wonderful! It's just about time for me to find some new fall scents to start lighting up at night now that it gets dark so early.

    I have a butcher block that's very similiar to yours. I bought it about 20 yrs ago at an estate sale for $35.00. LOVE it! But, we use ours for chopping and rolling out dough...everything! When we first got it we sanded it down and re-oiled it. I will NEVER get rid of it! And oh by the way...I have that same delicious Salty Caramel candle...again, LOVE it!

    I just love your butcher block table, and I agree with you, I would use a cutting board also. Its a beautiful piece of "furniture". I had been eyeballing those chips at our local sams club for weeks now. I have been trying to watch the figure as of late and have managed to pass by them ...until....last weekend. My hubby wanted chip and you need to buy 2 at sams, so I caved in and bought those garden tomato basil chips....and yes they were delish.

    I love your butcher block table. Wish I had room in my kitchen for one. I would use it though and cut right into it. I think it would just add character. I've heard that you can shine it up with a certain type of oil specifically made for cutting boards so it's food safe. It helps moisturize the wood after it's been wiped clean so much.

    So funny...I hadn't been in our Bath and Body for months and months, but I was there over the weekend and yup...bought a small salted caramel candle. I also bought the cinnamon sugar donut and have it burning now-yummy!

    I had to laugh about not using the butcher block. I have a Boos large cutting board. I use mine (but never for meat or chicken). You know you can sand them down if they get a knife mark!
