I've been DYING to try the CROCK POT
PECAN PIE....that one over there on my sidebar......
First, you must Pam-spray the sides and bottom of your pot.
Next, you just lay your uncooked pie crust in the bottom of the crock pot.....
Recipe says to let your crust come up a half inch or so on the sides....
hmmm...looks like I have a good inch coming up the sides....
OK.....NEXT......
In a large bowl, mix your ingredients all together:
eggs
sugar
vanilla
melted butter
dark karo
pecans
Did you mom teach you to put your measuring cup on the counter when measuring.....so that you'd get the exact amount called for..??
Mine did, too.
...by this time, I am ready to eat it ALL......RAW...!!
...pour all into the crust...
whew......lookin' pretty.
Put the lid on, set the timer for 2 hours....
check it.....
add another hour if necessary...
Now, it took 3 1/2 hours for mine.....
Then, let it cool and see if you can lift it out of that
DEEP crock pot, maybe using a spatula.

Mine is in the fridge, cooling, cause we can't WAIT for it to cool enuf to C.U.T.
I am still trying to figure out the WHY of this PIE cooked in a crock pot.
In the oven, the pie would have been done and on the window sill, cooling, in an hour and a half....
Oh, if you work, it might be nice to cook it in the pot...but, you'd need one that turns itself off in a couple or three hours....
I had a TERRIBLE time getting mine OUT OF THE CROCK POT....
I had to just scoop it out, try to FORM it to look like a pie...
Mr. Sweet ran to the freezer and got ICE CREAM and we ate it on our pie, while it was still hot.....

we discovered pie doesn't HAVE to be beautiful to taste like HEAVEN...!
A friend told me I should have used a CROCK POT LINER....
...that it would have been easy to lift the pie out of the pot.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a
CROCK POT LINER...

I have never heard of a Crock-pot pie OR a Crock-pot liner! Seems to me that this recipe would come in REAL handy in summer, though, when you want a pie but DON'T want to turn that hot oven on. I like pecan pie year-round (with ice cream...just like you and your husband!), but it gets scorching hot here in the Kansas City, MO area. So I could see myself giving this a try. Gotta look up those liners, though. That would make it a little easier for getting it out AND cleaning up afterward!
Glad to hear that your home was not near the tragic event in West, TX. I just saw that on the CBS Evening News and couldn't believe my eyes. What a horrific scene! I don't know if you saw the clip where the little boy was telling his Dad, "I can't hear! Let's get outta here!" My heart just sank!!!

I wondered how those pies were to get out of crock pots-Now I know! As long as it tasted good-that's what mattered. Probably not something you would present to guests for dessert though

Man that looks delicious. You are right though, why the Crock-pot? Same amount of work...pop in oven or pour in Crock-pot. The liner might help. I'd take piece oven or Crock-pot right now! I am going to be craving this!

Pecan Pie ... my favorite but I only cook it for Thanksgiving or maybe Christmas. Just too rich and I eat too much. This one looks delicious. I should send you my Southern Pecan Pie recipe and let you try it, but not in a crock pot. Maybe the crock pot keeps the crust edge from getting too brown, but I cover mine with foil. Thanks for sharing.

Hi BJ! Oh, I've never heard of crock pot pecan pie. This would probably be the only way I could make it. I've never had good luck with pecan pies before. No, I haven't heard of crock pot liners! The best thing is that it was good! :)

I just made a pecan pie, but in the oven. I never heard of doing it in the crock pot, bj. Mine even leaks in a pie pan and is hard to get out, but I never mind, either. It's my fave!!
Doesn't matter if it came out looking like a perfect piece of pie...it only matters whether it tastes good!

That pecan pie looks yummy, before it was baked, too. I am like you in that I snitch pecans out of the syrup mixture and eat them as I make the pie. Does the crust get crisp on this crock pot version?
You really should try the Reynolds crockpot/slow cooker liners. I discovered them at a time when I was plagued with severe carpal tunnel. They are very similar to the oven cooking bags, except shaped wider for the crock pot. They save you from having to juggle that slippery, heavy crock around while trying to get it cleaned. I always cook stuff that is hard to clean out of it, so those liners were a real help.
I think that having to cook pecan pies in the oven (that heats our whole house up) is Nature's way of keeping me from eating too many of them in a year.
I was going to say......just throw a pint of ice cream (vanilla bean) into the crock pot and grab a couple of spoons!
Oh wow, bj-- this look delicious! I imagine that using a crock pot to make a pie is a convenience if you don't have an oven or your oven is full of other things cooking during a holiday. I have seen crock pot liners --that is a good idea to use one.

1. YEP. My mom taught me to set the measuring cup on the counter. Our cooking class teacher always put hers on the window sill. Every time I measure a liquid, I wish I had a good old fashioned window sill. I don't. Maybe that's why I am not a great cook. Ha!

This pie looks delicious. I’m with you, I wouldn’t cook it in a crock pot just pop in the oven but I can see if your don’t have time to watch it the crock pot is a good way to go. I’ve never heard of a liner either, who knew.

Pecan pie is my favorite pie. I think I will stick to baking it in the oven :-).
I use crock pot liners for things like soups and stews. Then when there are leftovers I lift them out and tie the top of the bag in a knot and put it in the fridge. To reheat I cut the bag and pour it into a bowl and pop it into the microwave and throw the bag away. The real joy in it, though, is not getting the crockpot dirty. With my rice cooker/crockpot - I don't use liners because it has a non stick coating and washes so easily I really don't mind. And for the most part, I use that now.
Pecan pie is my favorite dessert in the world! Now that I can't eat sugar...I haven't even tried to make one. I posted some cute pillows I saw at the mall today...and I thought of YOU! heehee! Sweet hugs!

Oh this looks so good! Pecan pie is my hubby's favorite. I did know about the liners only because I saw a lady pick up a box of them once when I was looking for oven bags and they were nearby. So after she got what she wanted I, nosy gal that I am, looked at what she had picked up! That was my introduction to the liners.
Now, I have to go find something to snack on, that pecan pie has made hungry.

Your Pecan Pie might not have turned out as you had hoped...but "Mr.Ed" and I both adore Pecan Pie...Southern is the ONLY way, dear friend!!!

I love pecan pie anytime and anyway. That said, I would probably stick to my tried and true oven baked. I agree it would be great for someone working outside the home and Alycia mentioned, summertime.
I do use crockpot liners. Great for getting rid of the mess left. Just take it out and throw in the trash. I always wipe down the inside anyway but no scrubbing or soaking. They can be found on the aisle with the wax paper, foil and ziploc bags.

My mom swore by those crock pot liners, I've never tried them. She never made a pie though. It sure looks good, I wouldn't have cared one bit if it wasn't pie shaped!
